1 T he people of Jerusalem made Ahaziah, his youngest son, king in his stead, for the troop that came with the Arabs to the camp had slain all the older sons. So Ahaziah son of Jehoram king of Judah reigned.

Entonces los habitantes de Jerusalén hicieron rey en su lugar a Ocozías, su hijo menor, porque la banda de hombres que vinieron con los árabes al campamento había matado a todos los hijos mayores. Por lo cual Ocozías, hijo de Joram, rey de Judá, comenzó a reinar.

2 F orty-two years old was Ahaziah when he began his one-year reign in Jerusalem. His mother was Athaliah, a granddaughter of Omri.

Ocozías tenía veintidós años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó un año en Jerusalén. El nombre de su madre era Atalía, nieta de Omri.

3 H e also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab, for his mother was his counselor to do wickedly.

El también anduvo en los caminos de la casa de Acab, porque su madre fue su consejera para que hiciera lo malo.

4 S o he did evil in the sight of the Lord like the house of Ahab, for they were his counselors after his father’s death, to his destruction.

E hizo lo malo ante los ojos del Señor, como había hecho la casa de Acab, porque después de la muerte de su padre ellos fueron sus consejeros para perdición suya.

5 H e followed their counsel and even went with Joram son of Ahab king of Israel to war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramoth-gilead. And the Syrians wounded Joram;

Anduvo también conforme al consejo de ellos, y fue con Joram, hijo de Acab, rey de Israel, a hacer guerra contra Hazael, rey de Aram, en Ramot de Galaad. Los arameos hirieron a Joram,

6 A nd he returned to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds given him at Ramah when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. Azariah son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Joram son of Ahab in Jezreel because he was sick.

y éste volvió a Jezreel para ser curado de las heridas que le habían hecho en Ramot, cuando peleó contra Hazael, rey de Aram. Entonces Ocozías, hijo de Joram, rey de Judá, descendió a visitar a Joram, hijo de Acab, en Jezreel, porque estaba enfermo.

7 B ut the destruction of Ahaziah was ordained of God in his coming to visit Joram. For when he got there he went out with Joram against Jehu son of Nimshi, whom the Lord had anointed to destroy the house of Ahab.

La destrucción de Ocozías vino de Dios, por ir a visitar a Joram. Pues cuando llegó, salió con Joram contra Jehú, hijo de Nimsi, a quien el Señor había ungido para exterminar la casa de Acab.

8 A nd when Jehu was executing judgment upon the house of Ahab, he met the princes of Judah and the sons of Ahaziah’s slain brothers, who attended Ahaziah, and he slew them.

Y sucedió que cuando Jehú estaba ejecutando justicia contra la casa de Acab, encontró a los príncipes de Judá y a los hijos de los hermanos de Ocozías sirviendo a Ocozías, y los mató.

9 A nd sought Ahaziah, who was hiding in Samaria; he was captured, brought to Jehu, and slain. They buried him, for they said, After all, he is the grandson of Jehoshaphat, who sought the Lord with all his heart. So the house of Ahaziah had no one left able to rule the kingdom.

También buscó a Ocozías, y lo prendieron cuando estaba escondido en Samaria; lo llevaron a Jehú y lo mataron, pero le dieron sepultura, pues decían: Es hijo de Josafat, que buscó al Señor con todo su corazón. Y no quedó nadie de la casa de Ocozías para retener el poder del reino. Atalía usurpa el trono

10 B ut when Athaliah mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the royal family of Judah.

Cuando Atalía, madre de Ocozías, vio que su hijo había muerto, se levantó y exterminó toda la descendencia real de la casa de Judá.

11 B ut Jehosheba, the daughter of the king, took Joash son of Ahaziah and stole him away from among the king’s sons who were to be slain, and she put him and his nurse in a bedchamber. So Jehosheba daughter of King Jehoram, sister of Ahaziah, and wife of Jehoiada the priest, hid from Athaliah, so that she did not slay him.

Pero Josabet, hija del rey, tomó a Joás, hijo de Ocozías, y lo sacó furtivamente de entre los hijos del rey a quienes estaban dando muerte, y lo puso a él y a su nodriza en la alcoba. Así Josabet, hija del rey Joram, mujer del sacerdote Joiada (pues era hermana de Ocozías), lo escondió de Atalía para que no le diera muerte.

12 A nd Joash was with them hidden in the house of God six years, and Athaliah reigned over the land.

Y estuvo escondido con ellos en la casa de Dios seis años, mientras Atalía reinaba en el país.
