1 W hen Jesus had finished His charge to His twelve disciples, He left there to teach and to preach in their cities.

Y sucedió que cuando Jesús terminó de dar instrucciones a sus doce discípulos, se fue de allí a enseñar y predicar en las ciudades de ellos. Jesús y los discípulos de Juan

2 N ow when John in prison heard about the activities of Christ, he sent a message by his disciples

Y al oír Juan en la cárcel de las obras de Cristo, mandó por medio de sus discípulos

3 A nd asked Him, Are You the One Who was to come, or should we keep on expecting a different one?

a decirle: ¿Eres tú el que ha de venir, o esperaremos a otro?

4 A nd Jesus replied to them, Go and report to John what you hear and see:

Y respondiendo Jesús, les dijo: Id y contad a Juan lo que oís y veis:

5 T he blind receive their sight and the lame walk, lepers are cleansed (by healing) and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up and the poor have good news (the Gospel) preached to them.

los ciegos reciben la vista y los cojos andan, los leprosos quedan limpios, los sordos oyen, los muertos son resucitados y a los pobres se les anuncia el evangelio.

6 A nd blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied) is he who takes no offense at Me and finds no cause for stumbling in or through Me and is not hindered from seeing the Truth.

Y bienaventurado es el que no se escandaliza de mí. Jesús habla de Juan el Bautista

7 T hen as these men went their way, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John: What did you go out in the wilderness (desert) to see? A reed swayed by the wind?

Mientras ellos se marchaban, Jesús comenzó a hablar a las multitudes acerca de Juan: ¿Qué salisteis a ver en el desierto ? ¿Una caña sacudida por el viento?

8 W hat did you go out to see then? A man clothed in soft garments? Behold, those who wear soft clothing are in the houses of kings.

Mas, ¿qué salisteis a ver? ¿Un hombre vestido con ropas finas? Mirad, los que usan ropas finas están en los palacios de los reyes.

9 B ut what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and one '> out of the common, more eminent, more remarkable, and] superior to a prophet.

Pero, ¿qué salisteis a ver? ¿A un profeta ? Sí, os digo, y uno que es más que un profeta.

10 T his is the one of whom it is written, Behold, I send My messenger ahead of You, who shall make ready Your way before You.

Este es de quien está escrito: “ He aqui, yo envio mi mensajero delante de tu faz, quien preparara tu camino delante de ti.”

11 T ruly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

En verdad os digo que entre los nacidos de mujer no se ha levantado nadie mayor que Juan el Bautista; sin embargo, el más pequeño en el reino de los cielos es mayor que él.

12 A nd from the days of John the Baptist until the present time, the kingdom of heaven has endured violent assault, and violent men seize it by force '> share in the heavenly kingdom is sought with most ardent zeal and intense exertion].

Y desde los días de Juan el Bautista hasta ahora, el reino de los cielos sufre violencia, y los violentos lo conquistan por la fuerza.

13 F or all the Prophets and the Law prophesied up until John.

Porque todos los profetas y la ley profetizaron hasta Juan.

14 A nd if you are willing to receive and accept it, John himself is Elijah who was to come.

Y si queréis aceptar lo, él es Elías, el que había de venir.

15 H e who has ears to hear, let him be listening and let him consider and perceive and comprehend by hearing.

El que tiene oídos, que oiga.

16 B ut to what shall I liken this generation? It is like little children sitting in the marketplaces who call to their playmates,

Pero, ¿con qué compararé a esta generación? Es semejante a los muchachos que se sientan en las plazas, que dan voces a los otros,

17 W e piped to you, and you did not dance; we wailed dirges, and you did not mourn and beat your breasts and weep aloud.

y dicen: “Os tocamos la flauta, y no bailasteis; entonamos endechas, y no os lamentasteis.”

18 F or John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He has a demon!

Porque vino Juan que no comía ni bebía, y dicen: “Tiene un demonio.”

19 T he Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold, a glutton and a wine drinker, a friend of tax collectors and '> especially wicked] sinners! Yet wisdom is justified and vindicated by what she does (her deeds) and by her children.

Vino el Hijo del Hombre, que come y bebe, y dicen: “Mirad, un hombre glotón y bebedor de vino, amigo de recaudadores de impuestos y de pecadores.” Pero la sabiduría se justifica por sus hechos. Ayes sobre ciudades de Galilea

20 T hen He began to censure and reproach the cities in which most of His mighty works had been performed, because they did not repent.

Entonces comenzó a increpar a las ciudades en las que había hecho la mayoría de sus milagros, porque no se habían arrepentido.

21 W oe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would long ago have repented in sackcloth and ashes.

¡ Ay de ti, Corazín! ¡Ay de ti, Betsaida! Porque si los milagros que se hicieron en vosotras se hubieran hecho en Tiro y en Sidón, hace tiempo que se hubieran arrepentido en cilicio y ceniza.

22 I tell you, it shall be more endurable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you.

Por eso os digo que en el día del juicio será más tolerable el castigo para Tiro y Sidón que para vosotras.

23 A nd you, Capernaum, are you to be lifted up to heaven? You shall be brought down to Hades! For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have continued until today.

Y tú, Capernaúm, ¿acaso serás elevada hasta los cielos? ¡Hasta el Hades descenderás! Porque si los milagros que se hicieron en ti se hubieran hecho en Sodoma, ésta hubiera permanecido hasta hoy.

24 B ut I tell you, it shall be more endurable for the land of Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.

Sin embargo, os digo que en el día del juicio será más tolerable el castigo para la tierra de Sodoma que para ti. La gran invitación

25 A t that time Jesus began to say, I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth '> I acknowledge openly and joyfully to Your honor], that You have hidden these things from the wise and clever and learned, and revealed them to babies '> childish, untaught, and unskilled].

En aquel tiempo, hablando Jesús, dijo: Te alabo, Padre, Señor del cielo y de la tierra, porque ocultaste estas cosas a sabios e inteligentes, y las revelaste a los niños.

26 Y es, Father, such was Your gracious will and good pleasure.

Sí, Padre, porque así fue de tu agrado.

27 A ll things have been entrusted and delivered to Me by My Father; and no one fully knows and accurately understands the Son except the Father, and no one fully knows and accurately understands the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son deliberately wills to make Him known.

Todas las cosas me han sido entregadas por mi Padre; y nadie conoce al Hijo, sino el Padre, ni nadie conoce al Padre, sino el Hijo, y aquel a quien el Hijo se lo quiera revelar.

28 C ome to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. '> ease and relieve and refresh your souls.]

Venid a mí, todos los que estáis cansados y cargados, y yo os haré descansar.

29 T ake My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest ( relief and ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet) for your souls.

Tomad mi yugo sobre vosotros y aprended de mí, que soy manso y humilde de corazón, y hallareis descanso para vuestras almas.

30 F or My yoke is wholesome (useful, good—not harsh, hard, sharp, or pressing, but comfortable, gracious, and pleasant), and My burden is light and easy to be borne.

Porque mi yugo es fácil y mi carga ligera.
