1 A s He passed along, He noticed a man blind from his birth.

Al pasar Jesús, vio a un hombre ciego de nacimiento.

2 H is disciples asked Him, Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he should be born blind?

Y sus discípulos le preguntaron, diciendo: Rabí, ¿quién pecó, éste o sus padres, para que naciera ciego?

3 J esus answered, It was not that this man or his parents sinned, but he was born blind in order that the workings of God should be manifested (displayed and illustrated) in him.

Jesús respondió: Ni éste pecó, ni sus padres; sino que está ciego para que las obras de Dios se manifiesten en él.

4 W e must work the works of Him Who sent Me and be busy with His business while it is daylight; night is coming on, when no man can work.

Nosotros debemos hacer las obras del que me envió mientras es de día; la noche viene cuando nadie puede trabajar.

5 A s long as I am in the world, I am the world’s Light.

Mientras estoy en el mundo, yo soy la luz del mundo.

6 W hen He had said this, He spat on the ground and made clay (mud) with His saliva, and He spread it on the man’s eyes.

Habiendo dicho esto, escupió en tierra, e hizo barro con la saliva y le untó el barro en los ojos,

7 A nd He said to him, Go, wash in the Pool of Siloam—which means Sent. So he went and washed, and came back seeing.

y le dijo: Ve y lávate en el estanque de Siloé (que quiere decir, Enviado). El fue, pues, y se lavó y regresó viendo.

8 W hen the neighbors and those who used to know him by sight as a beggar saw him, they said, Is not this the man who used to sit and beg?

Entonces los vecinos y los que antes le habían visto que era mendigo, decían: ¿No es éste el que se sentaba y mendigaba ?

9 S ome said, It is he. Others said, No, but he looks very much like him. But he said, Yes, I am the man.

Unos decían: El es; y otros decían: No, pero se parece a él. El decía: Yo soy.

10 S o they said to him, How were your eyes opened?

Entonces le decían: ¿Cómo te fueron abiertos los ojos?

11 H e replied, The Man called Jesus made mud and smeared it on my eyes and said to me, Go to Siloam and wash. So I went and washed, and I obtained my sight!

El respondió: El hombre que se llama Jesús hizo barro, lo untó sobre mis ojos y me dijo: “Ve al Siloé y lávate.” Así que fui, me lavé y recibí la vista.

12 T hey asked him, Where is He? He said, I do not know.

Y le dijeron: ¿Dónde está El? El dijo: No sé.

13 T hen they conducted to the Pharisees the man who had formerly been blind.

Llevaron ante los fariseos al que antes había sido ciego.

14 N ow it was on the Sabbath day that Jesus mixed the mud and opened the man’s eyes.

Y era día de reposo el día en que Jesús hizo el barro y le abrió los ojos.

15 S o now again the Pharisees asked him how he received his sight. And he said to them, He smeared mud on my eyes, and I washed, and now I see.

Entonces los fariseos volvieron también a preguntarle cómo había recibido la vista. Y él les dijo: Me puso barro sobre los ojos, y me lavé y veo.

16 T hen some of the Pharisees said, This Man is not from God, because He does not observe the Sabbath. But others said, How can a man who is a sinner (a bad man) do such signs and miracles? So there was a difference of opinion among them.

Por eso algunos de los fariseos decían: Este hombre no viene de Dios, porque no guarda el día de reposo. Pero otros decían: ¿Cómo puede un hombre pecador hacer tales señales ? Y había división entre ellos.

17 A ccordingly they said to the blind man again, What do you say about Him, seeing that He opened your eyes? And he said, He is a prophet!

Entonces dijeron otra vez al ciego: ¿Qué dices tú de El, ya que te abrió los ojos? Y él dijo: Es un profeta.

18 H owever, the Jews did not believe that he had been blind and that he had received his sight until they called (summoned) the parents of the man.

Entonces los judíos no le creyeron que había sido ciego, y que había recibido la vista, hasta que llamaron a los padres del que había recibido la vista,

19 T hey asked them, Is this your son, whom you reported as having been born blind? How then does he see now?

y les preguntaron, diciendo: ¿Es éste vuestro hijo, el que vosotros decís que nació ciego? ¿Cómo es que ahora ve?

20 H is parents answered, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind.

Sus padres entonces les respondieron, y dijeron: Sabemos que este es nuestro hijo, y que nació ciego;

21 B ut as to how he can now see, we do not know; or who has opened his eyes, we do not know. He is of age. Ask him; let him speak for himself and give his own account of it.

pero cómo es que ahora ve, no lo sabemos; o quién le abrió los ojos, nosotros no lo sabemos. Preguntadle a él; edad tiene, él hablará por sí mismo.

22 H is parents said this because they feared the Jews; for the Jews had already agreed that if anyone should acknowledge Jesus to be the Christ, he should be expelled and excluded from the synagogue.

Sus padres dijeron esto porque tenían miedo a los judíos; porque los judíos ya se habían puesto de acuerdo en que si alguno confesaba que Jesús era el Cristo, fuera expulsado de la sinagoga.

23 O n that account his parents said, He is of age; ask him.

Por eso sus padres dijeron: Edad tiene; preguntadle a él.

24 S o the second time they summoned the man who had been born blind, and said to him, Now give God the glory (praise). This Fellow we know is only a sinner (a wicked person).

Por segunda vez llamaron al hombre que había sido ciego y le dijeron: Da gloria a Dios; nosotros sabemos que este hombre es un pecador.

25 T hen he answered, I do not know whether He is a sinner and wicked or not. But one thing I do know, that whereas I was blind before, now I see.

Entonces él les contestó: Si es pecador, no lo sé; una cosa sé: que yo era ciego y ahora veo.

26 S o they said to him, What did He do to you? How did He open your eyes?

Le dijeron entonces: ¿Qué te hizo? ¿Cómo te abrió los ojos?

27 H e answered, I already told you and you would not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Can it be that you wish to become His disciples also?

El les contestó: Ya os lo dije y no escuchasteis; ¿por qué queréis oír lo otra vez? ¿Es que también vosotros queréis haceros discípulos suyos?

28 A nd they stormed at him and retorted, You are His disciple yourself, but we are the disciples of Moses.

Entonces lo insultaron, y le dijeron: Tú eres discípulo de ese hombre; pero nosotros somos discípulos de Moisés.

29 W e know for certain that God spoke with Moses, but as for this Fellow, we know nothing about where He hails from.

Nosotros sabemos que Dios habló a Moisés, pero en cuanto a éste, no sabemos de dónde es.

30 T he man replied, Well, this is astonishing! Here a Man has opened my eyes, and yet you do not know where He comes from.

Respondió el hombre y les dijo: Pues en esto hay algo asombroso, que vosotros no sepáis de dónde es, y sin embargo, a mí me abrió los ojos.

31 W e know that God does not listen to sinners; but if anyone is God-fearing and a worshiper of Him and does His will, He listens to him.

Sabemos que Dios no oye a los pecadores; pero si alguien teme a Dios y hace su voluntad, a éste oye.

32 S ince the beginning of time it has never been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a man born blind.

Desde el principio jamás se ha oído decir que alguien abriera los ojos a un ciego de nacimiento.

33 I f this Man were not from God, He would not be able to do anything like this.

Si éste no viniera de Dios, no podría hacer nada.

34 T hey retorted, You were wholly born in sin; and do you teach us? So they cast him out.

Respondieron ellos y le dijeron: Tú naciste enteramente en pecados, ¿y tú nos enseñas a nosotros? Y lo echaron fuera.

35 J esus heard that they had put him out, and meeting him He said, Do you believe in and adhere to the Son of Man or the Son of God ?

Jesús oyó decir que lo habían echado fuera, y hallándolo, le dijo: ¿Crees tú en el Hijo del Hombre ?

36 H e answered, Who is He, Sir? Tell me, that I may believe in and adhere to Him.

El respondió y dijo: ¿Y quién es, Señor, para que yo crea en El ?

37 J esus said to him, You have seen Him; He is talking to you right now.

Jesús le dijo: Pues tú le has visto, y el que está hablando contigo, ése es.

38 H e called out, Lord, I believe! And he worshiped Him.

El entonces dijo: Creo, Señor. Y le adoró.

39 T hen Jesus said, I came into this world for judgment '> separation between those who believe on Me and those who reject Me], to make the sightless see and to make those who see become blind.

Y Jesús dijo: Yo vine a este mundo para juicio; para que los que no ven, vean, y para que los que ven se vuelvan ciegos.

40 S ome Pharisees who were near, hearing this remark, said to Him, Are we also blind?

Algunos de los fariseos que estaban con El oyeron esto y le dijeron: ¿Acaso nosotros también somos ciegos ?

41 J esus said to them, If you were blind, you would have no sin; but because you now claim to have sight, your sin remains.

Jesús les dijo: Si fuerais ciegos, no tendríais pecado; pero ahora, porque decís: “Vemos”, vuestro pecado permanece.
