1 T he proverbs (truths obscurely expressed, maxims, and parables) of Solomon son of David, king of Israel:

2 T hat people may know skillful and godly Wisdom and instruction, discern and comprehend the words of understanding and insight,

para aprender sabiduría e instrucción, para discernir dichos profundos,

3 R eceive instruction in wise dealing and the discipline of wise thoughtfulness, righteousness, justice, and integrity,

para recibir instrucción en sabia conducta, justicia, juicio y equidad;

4 T hat prudence may be given to the simple, and knowledge, discretion, and discernment to the youth—

para dar a los simples prudencia, y a los jóvenes conocimiento y discreción.

5 T he wise also will hear and increase in learning, and the person of understanding will acquire skill and attain to sound counsel —

El sabio oirá y crecerá en conocimiento, y el inteligente adquirirá habilidad,

6 T hat people may understand a proverb and a figure of speech or an enigma with its interpretation, and the words of the wise and their dark sayings or riddles.

para entender proverbio y metáfora, las palabras de los sabios y sus enigmas.

7 T he reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord is the beginning and the principal and choice part of knowledge; but fools despise skillful and godly Wisdom, instruction, and discipline.

El temor del Señor es el principio de la sabiduría; los necios desprecian la sabiduría y la instrucción. Peligro de las malas compañías

8 M y son, hear the instruction of your father; reject not nor forsake the teaching of your mother.

Oye, hijo mío, la instrucción de tu padre, y no abandones la enseñanza de tu madre;

9 F or they are a chaplet (garland) of grace upon your head and chains and pendants for your neck.

porque guirnalda de gracia son para tu cabeza, y collares para tu cuello.

10 M y son, if sinners entice you, do not consent.

Hijo mío, si los pecadores te quieren seducir, no consientas.

11 I f they say, Come with us; let us lie in wait blood, let us ambush the innocent without cause;

Si dicen: Ven con nosotros, pongámonos al asecho para derramar sangre, sin causa asechemos al inocente,

12 L et us swallow them up alive as does Sheol (the place of the dead), and whole, as those who go down into the pit;

devorémoslos vivos como el Seol, enteros, como los que descienden al abismo;

13 W e shall find and take all kinds of precious goods, we shall fill our houses with plunder;

hallaremos toda clase de preciadas riquezas, llenaremos nuestras casas de botín;

14 T hrow in your lot with us and be a sworn brother and comrade; let us all have one purse in common—

echa tu suerte con nosotros, todos tendremos una bolsa;

15 M y son, do not walk in the way with them; restrain your foot from their path;

hijo mío, no andes en el camino con ellos, aparta tu pie de su senda,

16 F or their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed blood.

porque sus pies corren hacia el mal, y a derramar sangre se apresuran.

17 F or in vain is the net spread in the sight of any bird!

Porque es en vano tender la red ante los ojos de cualquier ave;

18 B ut they are lying in wait for their own blood; they set an ambush for their own lives.

pero ellos a su propia sangre asechan, tienden lazo a sus propias vidas.

19 S o are the ways of everyone who is greedy of gain; such takes away the lives of its possessors.

Tales son los caminos de todo el que se beneficia por la violencia: que quita la vida de sus poseedores. Habla la sabiduría

20 W isdom cries aloud in the street, she raises her voice in the markets;

La sabiduría clama en la calle, en las plazas alza su voz;

21 S he cries at the head of the noisy intersections; at the entrance of the city gates she speaks:

clama en las esquinas de las calles concurridas; a la entrada de las puertas de la ciudad pronuncia sus discursos:

22 H ow long, O simple ones, will you love being simple? And the scoffers delight in scoffing and fools hate knowledge?

¿Hasta cuándo, oh simples, amaréis la simpleza, y los burladores se deleitarán en hacer burla, y los necios aborrecerán el conocimiento ?

23 I f you will turn (repent) and give heed to my reproof, behold, I '> Wisdom] will pour out my spirit upon you, I will make my words known to you.

Volveos a mi reprensión: he aquí, derramaré mi espíritu sobre vosotros, os haré conocer mis palabras.

24 B ecause I have called and you have refused, have stretched out my hand and no man has heeded it,

Porque he llamado y habéis rehusado oír, he extendido mi mano y nadie ha hecho caso;

25 A nd you treated as nothing all my counsel and would accept none of my reproof,

habéis desatendido todo consejo mío, y no habéis deseado mi reprensión;

26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when the thing comes that shall cause you terror and panic—

también yo me reiré de vuestra calamidad, me burlaré cuando sobrevenga lo que teméis,

27 W hen your panic comes as a storm and desolation and your calamity comes on as a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you.

cuando venga como tormenta lo que teméis, y vuestra calamidad sobrevenga como torbellino, cuando vengan sobre vosotros tribulación y angustia.

28 T hen will they call upon me but I will not answer; they will seek me early and diligently but they will not find me.

Entonces me invocarán, pero no responderé; me buscarán con diligencia, pero no me hallarán;

29 B ecause they hated knowledge and did not choose the reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord,

porque odiaron el conocimiento, y no escogieron el temor del Señor,

30 W ould accept none of my counsel, and despised all my reproof,

ni quisieron aceptar mi consejo, y despreciaron toda mi reprensión;

31 T herefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way and be satiated with their own devices.

comerán del fruto de su conducta, y de sus propias artimañas se hartarán.

32 F or the backsliding of the simple shall slay them, and the careless ease of fools shall destroy them.

Porque el desvío de los simples los matará, y la complacencia de los necios los destruirá.

33 B ut whoso hearkens to me shall dwell securely and in confident trust and shall be quiet, without fear or dread of evil.

Pero el que me escucha vivirá seguro, y descansará, sin temor al mal.
