1 T he proverbs (truths obscurely expressed, maxims, and parables) of Solomon son of David, king of Israel:

Fjalët e urta të Salomonit, birit të Davidit, mbret i Izraelit,

2 T hat people may know skillful and godly Wisdom and instruction, discern and comprehend the words of understanding and insight,

për të njohur diturinë dhe për të mësuar gjykimet e mënçura;

3 R eceive instruction in wise dealing and the discipline of wise thoughtfulness, righteousness, justice, and integrity,

për të ditur si të veprosh me urti, me drejtësi, me gjykim dhe ndershmëri,

4 T hat prudence may be given to the simple, and knowledge, discretion, and discernment to the youth—

për t’u dhënë shkathtësi njerëzve të thjeshtë, njohje dhe reflektim të riut.

5 T he wise also will hear and increase in learning, and the person of understanding will acquire skill and attain to sound counsel —

I urti do të dëgjojë dhe do të rritë diturinë e tij; njeriu i zgjuar do të përfitojë këshilla të urta,

6 T hat people may understand a proverb and a figure of speech or an enigma with its interpretation, and the words of the wise and their dark sayings or riddles.

për të kuptuar një sentencë dhe një enigmë, fjalët e të urtëve dhe thëniet e tyre të errëta.

7 T he reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord is the beginning and the principal and choice part of knowledge; but fools despise skillful and godly Wisdom, instruction, and discipline.

Frika e Zotit është fillimi i njohjes; por njerëzit e pamend përçmojnë diturinë dhe arsimin.

8 M y son, hear the instruction of your father; reject not nor forsake the teaching of your mother.

Dëgjo, o biri im, mësimet e atit tënd dhe mos i lër pas dore mësimet e nënes sate,

9 F or they are a chaplet (garland) of grace upon your head and chains and pendants for your neck.

sepse janë një nur që zbukuron kokën tënde dhe një stoli në qafën tënde.

10 M y son, if sinners entice you, do not consent.

Biri im, në qoftë se mëkatarët duan të të mashtrojnë, mos prano,

11 I f they say, Come with us; let us lie in wait blood, let us ambush the innocent without cause;

në qoftë se thonë: "Eja me ne; kemi ngritur një pritë për të derdhur gjak; i ngritëm gracka të pafajmit pa ndonjë shkak;

12 L et us swallow them up alive as does Sheol (the place of the dead), and whole, as those who go down into the pit;

le t’i kapërdimë të gjallë, ashtu si Sheoli, tërësisht si ata që zbresin në gropë;

13 W e shall find and take all kinds of precious goods, we shall fill our houses with plunder;

ne do të gjejmë lloj-lloj pasurish të çmueshme, do t’i mbushim shtëpitë tona me plaçka;

14 T hrow in your lot with us and be a sworn brother and comrade; let us all have one purse in common—

ti do ta hedhësh në short pjesën tënde me ne, dhe të gjithë ne do të kemi një qese të vetme";

15 M y son, do not walk in the way with them; restrain your foot from their path;

biri im, mos shko me ta në po atë rrugë, ndale hapin nga shtegu i tyre,

16 F or their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed blood.

sepse këmbët e tyre turren drejt së keqes dhe ata nxitojnë të derdhin gjak.

17 F or in vain is the net spread in the sight of any bird!

Shtrihet më kot rrjeta përpara çdo lloji zogjsh;

18 B ut they are lying in wait for their own blood; they set an ambush for their own lives.

por këta kurdisin prita kundër gjakut të vet dhe ngrenë kurthe kundër vetë jetës së tyre.

19 S o are the ways of everyone who is greedy of gain; such takes away the lives of its possessors.

Të tilla janë rrugët e çdo njeriu të etur për pasuri; ajo ia heq jetën atyre që e kanë.

20 W isdom cries aloud in the street, she raises her voice in the markets;

Dituria bërtet nëpër rrugë, zëri i saj dëgjohet nëpër sheshe;

21 S he cries at the head of the noisy intersections; at the entrance of the city gates she speaks:

ajo thërret në vendet ku ka turma dhe ligjëron në hyrje të portave të qytetit;

22 H ow long, O simple ones, will you love being simple? And the scoffers delight in scoffing and fools hate knowledge?

"Deri kur, o njerëz të thjeshtë, do t’ju pëlqejë thjeshtësia dhe tallësit do të kënaqen duke u tallur dhe budallenjtë do të urrejnë dijen?

23 I f you will turn (repent) and give heed to my reproof, behold, I '> Wisdom] will pour out my spirit upon you, I will make my words known to you.

Ejani në vete nga qortimi im; ja, unë do të derdh mbi ju Frymën time dhe do t’ju bëj të njohura fjalët e mia.

24 B ecause I have called and you have refused, have stretched out my hand and no man has heeded it,

Sepse unë thirra dhe ju nuk keni dashur, shtriva dorën time dhe askush prej jush nuk i kushtoi vëmendje,

25 A nd you treated as nothing all my counsel and would accept none of my reproof,

përkundrazi hodhët poshtë të gjitha këshillat e mia dhe nuk pranuat ndreqjen time,

26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when the thing comes that shall cause you terror and panic—

edhe unë do të qesh me fatkeqësinë tuaj, do të tallem kur të vijë ajo që ju druani,

27 W hen your panic comes as a storm and desolation and your calamity comes on as a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you.

kur ajo që druani të vijë si një furtunë, dhe fatkeqësia juaj të vijë si një stuhi, kur t’ju mbulojnë fatkeqësia dhe ankthi.

28 T hen will they call upon me but I will not answer; they will seek me early and diligently but they will not find me.

Atëherë ata do të më thërrasin mua, por unë nuk do të përgjigjem; do të më kërkojnë me kujdes, por nuk do të më gjejnë.

29 B ecause they hated knowledge and did not choose the reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord,

Sepse kanë urryer dijen dhe nuk kanë zgjedhur frikën e Zotit,

30 W ould accept none of my counsel, and despised all my reproof,

nuk kanë dashur të pranojnë këshillën time dhe kanë përbuzur të gjitha qortimet e mia.

31 T herefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way and be satiated with their own devices.

Prandaj do të hanë frytin e sjelljes së tyre dhe do të ngopen me këshillat e tyre.

32 F or the backsliding of the simple shall slay them, and the careless ease of fools shall destroy them.

Sepse përdalja e njerëzve të thjeshtë i vret dhe qetësia e rreme e budallenjve i zhduk;

33 B ut whoso hearkens to me shall dwell securely and in confident trust and shall be quiet, without fear or dread of evil.

por ai që më dëgjon do të banojë një vend të sigurt, do të jetë me të vërtetë i qetë, pa frikë nga çfarëdo e keqe".
