1 T he word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the Jews who were dwelling in the land of Egypt—at Migdol, at Tahpanhes, at Memphis—and in the country of Pathros, saying,

Palabra que vino a Jeremías para todos los judíos que moraban en la tierra de Egipto, los que moraban en Migdol, en Tafnes, en Menfis y en la tierra de Patros, diciendo:

2 T hus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: You have seen all the evil that I brought upon Jerusalem and upon all the cities of Judah; and see, this day they are a desolation and no man dwells in them

Así dice el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: “Vosotros habéis visto toda la calamidad que he traído sobre Jerusalén y sobre todas las ciudades de Judá, y que he aquí, hoy están en ruinas y no hay en ellas morador,

3 B ecause of the wickedness which they committed, provoking Me to anger in that they went to burn incense to serve other gods that they did not know—neither they, nor you, nor your fathers.

a causa de la maldad que ellos cometieron para provocarme a ira, quemando constantemente sacrificios y sirviendo a otros dioses que no habían conocido, ni ellos, ni vosotros, ni vuestros padres.

4 Y et I sent to you all My servants the prophets earnestly and persistently, saying, Oh, do not do this loathsome and shamefully vile thing that I hate and abhor!

“Con todo, os envié a todos mis siervos los profetas repetidas veces, diciendo: ‘No hagáis ahora esta cosa abominable que yo aborrezco.’

5 B ut they did not listen and obey or submit and consent to turn from their wickedness and burn no incense to other gods.

“Pero no escucharon ni inclinaron su oído para apartarse de su maldad, para dejar de quemar sacrificios a otros dioses.

6 T herefore My wrath and My anger were poured out and were kindled in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; and they became wasted and desolate, as it is this day.

“Por tanto, se derramó mi ira y mi furor y ardió en las ciudades de Judá y en las calles de Jerusalén, que fueron convertidas en ruinas y en desolación, como lo están hoy.

7 T herefore now thus says the Lord God of hosts, the God of Israel: Why do you commit this great evil against yourselves that will cut off from you man and woman, infant and weaned child, out of Judah, to leave yourselves with none remaining?

“Ahora pues, así dice el Señor Dios de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: ‘¿Por qué os hacéis un daño tan grande a vosotros mismos cortando de entre vosotros a hombre y mujer, niño y lactante de en medio de Judá, sin que os quede remanente,

8 W hy do you provoke Me to anger with the works (idols) of your own hands, burning incense to other gods in the land of Egypt, where you have come to dwell temporarily, that you might be cut off and become a curse and a reproach (an object of reviling and taunts) among all the nations of the earth?

provocándome a ira con la obra de vuestras manos, quemando sacrificios a otros dioses en la tierra de Egipto, adonde habéis entrado a residir, de modo que seáis exterminados y vengáis a ser maldición y oprobio entre todas las naciones de la tierra ?

9 H ave you forgotten the wickedness of your fathers, the wickedness of the kings of Judah, the wickedness of their wives, your own wickedness, and the wickedness of your wives, which they committed in the land of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?

‘¿Habéis olvidado las maldades de vuestros padres, las maldades de los reyes de Judá y las maldades de sus mujeres, vuestras propias maldades y las maldades de vuestras mujeres, que cometieron en la tierra de Judá y en las calles de Jerusalén ?

10 T hey are not humbled (contrite, penitent, and bruised for their guilt and iniquities) even to this day, neither have they feared and revered nor walked in My law or My statutes which I set before you and before your fathers.

‘Pero hasta hoy no se han humillado, ni han temido, ni han andado en mi ley ni en mis estatutos que puse delante de vosotros y delante de vuestros padres.’”

11 T herefore thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will set My face against you for evil—even to cut off all Judah.

Por tanto, así dice el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: “He aquí, volveré el rostro contra vosotros para mal, y para destruir a todo Judá.

12 A nd I will take away the remnant of Judah who have set their faces to come into the land of Egypt to dwell here temporarily, and they will all be consumed and will fall in the land of Egypt; they will be consumed by the sword and by famine. From the least even to the greatest, they shall die by the sword and by famine. And they will be a detestable thing, an astonishment, a curse, and a reproach (an object of horror, reviling, and taunts).

“Y quitaré el remanente de Judá que ha decidido entrar en la tierra de Egipto para residir allí, y serán acabados en la tierra de Egipto; caerán a espada, por el hambre serán acabados. Tanto el pequeño como el grande morirán a espada y de hambre; seréis motivo de maldición, de horror, de imprecación y de oprobio.

13 F or I will punish all the inhabitants of the land of Egypt as I have punished Jerusalem—by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence—

“Y castigaré a los que moran en la tierra de Egipto, como he castigado a Jerusalén, con espada, con hambre y con pestilencia.

14 S o that none of the remnant of Judah who have come to the land of Egypt to dwell temporarily shall escape or survive or return to the land of Judah, to which they desire and lift up their souls to return to dwell there; for none shall return except fugitives.

“Y no quedará quien escape ni quien sobreviva del remanente de Judá que ha entrado en la tierra de Egipto para residir allí, para luego volver a la tierra de Judá a la cual añoran volver a fin de morar allí, porque ninguno volverá, excepto algunos fugitivos.”

15 T hen all the men who knew that their wives were burning incense to other gods, and all the women who stood by—a great assembly—even all the people who dwelt in Pathros in the land of Egypt, answered Jeremiah:

Entonces todos los hombres que sabían que sus mujeres quemaban sacrificios a otros dioses, junto con todas las mujeres que estaban presentes, una gran multitud, y todo el pueblo que moraba en la tierra de Egipto, en Patros, respondieron a Jeremías, diciendo:

16 A s for the word that you have spoken to us in the name of the Lord, we will not listen to or obey you.

En cuanto al mensaje que nos has hablado en el nombre del Señor, no vamos a escucharte,

17 B ut we will certainly perform every word of the vows we have made: to burn incense to the queen of heaven and to pour out drink offerings to her as we have done—we and our fathers, our kings and our princes—in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; for then we had plenty of food and were well off and prosperous and saw no evil.

sino que ciertamente cumpliremos toda palabra que ha salido de nuestra boca, y quemaremos sacrificios a la reina del cielo, derramándole libaciones, como hacíamos nosotros, nuestros padres, nuestros reyes y nuestros príncipes en las ciudades de Judá y en las calles de Jerusalén. Entonces teníamos bastante alimento, prosperábamos y no veíamos mal alguno.

18 B ut since we stopped burning incense to the queen of heaven and pouring out drink offerings to her, we have lacked everything and have been consumed by the sword and by famine.

Pero desde que dejamos de quemar sacrificios a la reina del cielo y derramarle libaciones, carecemos de todo, y por la espada y por el hambre hemos sido acabados.

19 W hen we burned incense to the queen of heaven and poured out drink offerings to her, did we make cakes to represent and honor her and pour out drink offerings to her without our husbands?

Y, dijeron las mujeres, cuando nosotras quemábamos sacrificios a la reina del cielo y le derramábamos libaciones, ¿acaso sin saberlo nuestros maridos le hacíamos tortas con su imagen y le derramábamos libaciones?

20 T hen Jeremiah said to all the people—to the men and to the women and to all the people who had given him that answer—

Entonces Jeremías habló a todo el pueblo, a hombres y a mujeres, a todo el pueblo que así le respondía, diciendo:

21 T he incense that you burned in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem—you and your fathers, your kings and your princes, and the people of the land—did not the Lord remember and did it not come into His mind?

En cuanto a los sacrificios que habéis quemado en las ciudades de Judá y en las calles de Jerusalén, vosotros y vuestros padres, vuestros reyes y vuestros príncipes y el pueblo de la tierra, ¿no se ha acordado el Señor de ellos, y no ha venido esto a su mente ?

22 T he Lord could no longer endure the evil of your doings and the abominations which you have committed; because of them therefore has your land become a desolation and an waste and a curse, without inhabitants, as it is this day.

El Señor no pudo soportar más, a causa de la maldad de vuestras obras y a causa de las abominaciones que habíais cometido; por eso vuestra tierra fue convertida en ruinas, objeto de horror y maldición, sin habitantes, como está hoy.

23 B ecause you have burned incense and because you have sinned against the Lord and have not obeyed the voice of the Lord or walked in His law and in His statutes and in His testimonies, therefore this evil has fallen upon you, as it is this day.

Porque quemasteis sacrificios y pecasteis contra el Señor y no obedecisteis la voz del Señor ni anduvisteis en su ley, ni en sus estatutos, ni en sus testimonios, por tanto, os ha sobrevenido esta calamidad, como sucede hoy.

24 M oreover, Jeremiah said to all the people, including all the women, Hear the word of the Lord, all you of Judah who are in the land of Egypt,

Entonces Jeremías dijo a todo el pueblo y a todas las mujeres: Oíd la palabra del Señor, todo Judá, los que estáis en la tierra de Egipto:

25 T hus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: You and your wives have both declared with your mouths and fulfilled it with your hands, saying, We will surely perform our vows that we have vowed to burn incense to the queen of heaven and to pour out drink offerings to her. then confirm your vows and perform your vows!

Así dice el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: “Vosotros y vuestras mujeres habéis hablado con vuestra boca y lo habéis realizado con vuestras manos, diciendo: ‘Ciertamente cumpliremos los votos que hemos hecho de quemar sacrificios a la reina del cielo y de derramarle libaciones.’ ¡Id a cumplir vuestros votos! ¡Poned por obra vuestros votos!”

26 T herefore hear the word of the Lord, all Judah who dwell in the land of Egypt: Behold, I have sworn by My great name, says the Lord, that My name shall no more be invoked by the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, As the Lord God lives.

Pero oíd la palabra del Señor, todo Judá, los que habitáis en la tierra de Egipto: “He aquí, he jurado por mi gran nombre” —dice el Señor — “que nunca más será invocado mi nombre en toda la tierra de Egipto por boca de ningún hombre de Judá, diciendo: ‘Vive el Señor Dios.’

27 B ehold, I am watching over them for evil and not for good; and all the men of Judah who are in the land of Egypt shall be consumed by the sword and by famine until there is an end of them and they are all destroyed.

“He aquí, velo sobre ellos para mal y no para bien, y serán acabados todos los hombres de Judá que están en la tierra de Egipto por la espada y por el hambre hasta que sean totalmente exterminados.

28 Y et a small number who escape the sword shall return out of the land of Egypt to the land of Judah; and all the remnant of Judah who came to the land of Egypt to dwell temporarily shall know whose words shall stand, Mine or theirs.

“Y los que escapen de la espada, pocos en número, volverán de la tierra de Egipto a la tierra de Judá. Entonces sabrá todo el remanente de Judá que ha ido a la tierra de Egipto para residir allí, qué palabra ha de permanecer, si la mía o la de ellos.

29 A nd this will be the sign to you, says the Lord, that I will punish you in this place, so that you may know that My words will surely stand against you for evil.

“Y esta será la señal para vosotros” —declara el Señor — “de que os voy a castigar en este lugar, para que sepáis que ciertamente mis palabras permanecerán para mal contra vosotros.”

30 T hus says the Lord: Behold, I will give Pharaoh Hophra king of Egypt into the hands of his enemies and into the hands of those who seek his life, just as I gave Zedekiah king of Judah into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, who was his enemy and was seeking his life.

Así dice el Señor: “He aquí, entregaré a Faraón Hofra, rey de Egipto, en manos de sus enemigos, en manos de los que buscan su vida, así como entregué a Sedequías, rey de Judá, en manos de Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, su enemigo, que buscaba su vida.”
