1 A nd Jacob raised his eyes and looked, and behold, Esau was coming and with him 400 men. So he divided the children to Leah and to Rachel and to the two maids.

Y alzando Jacob los ojos miró, y he aquí, Esaú venía y cuatrocientos hombres con él. Entonces dividió a los niños entre Lea y Raquel y las dos siervas.

2 A nd he put the maids and their children in front, Leah and her children after them, and Rachel and Joseph last of all.

Y puso a las siervas con sus hijos delante, y a Lea con sus hijos después, y a Raquel con José en último lugar;

3 T hen Jacob went over before them and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.

y él se les adelantó, y se inclinó hasta el suelo siete veces hasta que llegó cerca de su hermano.

4 B ut Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him and fell on his neck and kissed him, and they wept.

Entonces Esaú corrió a su encuentro y lo abrazó, y echándose sobre su cuello lo besó, y lloraron.

5 l ooked up and saw the women and the children and said, Who are these with you? And replied, They are the children whom God has graciously given your servant.

Y alzó sus ojos y vio a las mujeres y a los niños, y dijo: ¿Quiénes son éstos que vienen contigo? Y él respondió: Son los hijos que Dios en su misericordia ha concedido a tu siervo.

6 T hen the maids came near, they and their children, and they bowed themselves.

Entonces se acercaron las siervas con sus hijos, y se inclinaron.

7 A nd Leah also with her children came near, and they bowed themselves. After them Joseph and Rachel came near, and they bowed themselves.

Lea también se acercó con sus hijos, y se inclinaron; y después José se acercó con Raquel, y se inclinaron.

8 E sau said, What do you mean by all this company which I met? And he said, These are that I might find favor in the sight of my lord.

Y dijo Esaú: ¿Qué te propones con toda esta muchedumbre que he encontrado ? Y él respondió: Hallar gracia ante los ojos de mi señor.

9 A nd Esau said, I have plenty, my brother; keep what you have for yourself.

Pero Esaú dijo: Tengo bastante, hermano mío; sea tuyo lo que es tuyo.

10 B ut Jacob replied, No, I beg of you, if now I have found favor in your sight, receive my gift that I am presenting; for truly to see your face is to me as if I had seen the face of God, and you have received me favorably.

Mas Jacob respondió: No, te ruego que si ahora he hallado gracia ante tus ojos, tomes el presente de mi mano, porque veo tu rostro como uno ve el rostro de Dios, y favorablemente me has recibido.

11 A ccept, I beg of you, my blessing and gift that I have brought to you; for God has dealt graciously with me and I have everything. And he kept urging him and he accepted it.

Acepta, te ruego, el presente que se te ha traído, pues Dios me ha favorecido, y porque yo tengo mucho. Y le insistió, y él lo aceptó.

12 T hen said, Let us get started on our journey, and I will go before you.

Entonces Esaú dijo: Pongámonos en marcha y vámonos; yo iré delante de ti.

13 B ut Jacob replied, You know, my lord, that the children are tender and delicate and need gentle care, and the flocks and herds with young are of concern to me; for if the men should overdrive them for a single day, the whole of the flocks would die.

Pero él le dijo: Mi señor sabe que los niños son tiernos, y que debo cuidar de las ovejas y las vacas que están criando. Si los apuramos mucho, en un solo día todos los rebaños morirán.

14 L et my lord, I pray you, pass over before his servant; and I will lead on slowly, governed by the livestock that set the pace before me and the endurance of the children, until I come to my lord in Seir.

Adelántese ahora mi señor a su siervo; y yo avanzaré sin prisa, al paso del ganado que va delante de mí, y al paso de los niños, hasta que llegue a mi señor en Seir.

15 T hen Esau said, Let me now leave with you some of the people who are with me. But said, What need is there for it? Let me find favor in the sight of my lord.

Y Esaú dijo: Permíteme dejarte parte de la gente que está conmigo. Pero él dijo: ¿Para qué? Halle yo gracia ante los ojos de mi señor.

16 S o Esau turned back that day on his way to Seir.

Aquel mismo día regresó Esaú por su camino a Seir;

17 B ut Jacob journeyed to Succoth and built himself a house and made booths or places of shelter for his livestock; so the name of the place is called Succoth.

y Jacob siguió hasta Sucot, y se edificó una casa, e hizo cobertizos para su ganado; por eso al lugar se le puso el nombre de Sucot. Jacob en Siquem

18 W hen Jacob came from Padan-aram, he arrived safely and in peace at the town of Shechem, in the land of Canaan, and pitched his tents before the town.

Y Jacob llegó sin novedad a la ciudad de Siquem, que está en la tierra de Canaán, cuando vino de Padán-aram, y acampó frente a la ciudad.

19 T hen he bought the piece of land on which he had encamped from the sons of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for a hundred pieces of money.

La parcela de campo donde había plantado su tienda la compró de mano de los hijos de Hamor, padre de Siquem, por cien monedas,

20 T here he erected an altar and called it El-Elohe-Israel.

y levantó allí un altar, y lo llamó: El-Elohe-Israel.
