1 T he Lord said to Moses,

E disse o Senhor a Moisés:

2 S anctify (consecrate, set apart) to Me all the firstborn; whatever is first to open the womb among the Israelites, both of man and of beast, is Mine.

“Consagre a mim todos os primogênitos. O primeiro filho israelita me pertence, não somente entre os homens, mas também entre os animais”.

3 A nd Moses said to the people, remember this day in which you came out from Egypt, out of the house of bondage and bondmen, for by strength of hand the Lord brought you out from this place; no leavened bread shall be eaten.

Então disse Moisés ao povo: “Comemorem esse dia em que vocês saíram do Egito, da terra da escravidão, porque o Senhor os tirou dali com mão poderosa. Não comam nada fermentado.

4 T his day you go forth in the month Abib.

Neste dia do mês de abibe vocês estão saindo.

5 A nd when the Lord brings you into the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Hivites, and Jebusites, which He promised and swore to your fathers to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, you shall keep this service in this month.

Quando o Senhor os fizer entrar na terra dos cananeus, dos hititas, dos amorreus, dos heveus e dos jebuseus — terra que ele jurou aos seus antepassados que daria a vocês, terra onde manam leite e mel — vocês deverão celebrar esta cerimônia neste mesmo mês.

6 S even days you shall eat unleavened bread and the seventh day shall be a feast to the Lord.

Durante sete dias comam pão sem fermento e, no sétimo dia, façam uma festa dedicada ao Senhor.

7 U nleavened bread shall be eaten for seven days; no leavened bread shall be seen with you, neither shall there be leaven in all your territory.

Comam pão sem fermento durante os sete dias; não haja nada fermentado entre vocês, nem fermento algum dentro do seu território.

8 Y ou shall explain to your son on that day, This is done because of what the Lord did for me when I came out of Egypt.

“Nesse dia cada um dirá a seu filho: Assim faço pelo que o Senhor fez por mim quando saí do Egito.

9 I t shall be as a sign to you upon your hand and as a memorial between your eyes, that the law of the Lord may be in your mouth; for with a strong hand the Lord has brought you out of Egypt.

Isto lhe será como sinal em sua mão e memorial em sua testa, para que a lei do Senhor esteja em seus lábios, porque o Senhor o tirou do Egito com mão poderosa.

10 Y ou shall therefore keep this ordinance at this time from year to year.

Cumpra esta determinação na época certa, de ano em ano.

11 A nd when the Lord brings you into the land of the Canaanites, as He promised and swore to you and your fathers, and shall give it to you,

“Depois que o Senhor os fizer entrar na terra dos cananeus e entregá-la a vocês, como jurou a vocês e aos seus antepassados,

12 Y ou shall set apart to the Lord all that first opens the womb. All the firstlings of your livestock that are males shall be the Lord’s.

separem para o Senhor o primeiro nascido de todo ventre. Todos os primeiros machos dos seus rebanhos pertencem ao Senhor.

13 E very firstborn of a donkey you shall redeem by a lamb, or if you will not redeem it, then you shall break its neck; and every firstborn among your sons shall you redeem.

Resgatem com um cordeiro toda primeira cria dos jumentos, mas se não quiserem resgatá-la, quebrem-lhe o pescoço. Resgatem também todo primogênito entre os seus filhos.

14 A nd when, in time to come, your son asks you, What does this mean? You shall say to him, By strength of hand the Lord brought us out from Egypt, from the house of bondage and bondmen.

“No futuro, quando os seus filhos lhes perguntarem: ‘Que significa isto?’, digam-lhes: Com mão poderosa o Senhor nos tirou do Egito, da terra da escravidão.

15 F or when Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let us go, the Lord slew all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man and of livestock. Therefore I sacrifice to the Lord all the males that first open the womb; but all the firstborn of my sons I redeem.

Quando o faraó resistiu e recusou deixar-nos sair, o Senhor matou todos os primogênitos do Egito, tanto os de homens como os de animais. Por isso sacrificamos ao Senhor os primeiros machos de todo ventre e resgatamos os nossos primogênitos.

16 A nd it shall be as a reminder upon your hand or as frontlets between your eyes, for by a strong hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt.

“Isto será como sinal em sua mão e símbolo em sua testa de que o Senhor nos tirou do Egito com mão poderosa”. A Partida dos Israelitas

17 W hen Pharaoh let the people go, God led them not by way of the land of the Philistines, although that was nearer; for God said, Lest the people change their purpose when they see war and return to Egypt.

Quando o faraó deixou sair o povo, Deus não o guiou pela rota da terra dos filisteus, embora este fosse o caminho mais curto, pois disse: “Se eles se defrontarem com a guerra, talvez se arrependam e voltem para o Egito”.

18 B ut God led the people around by way of the wilderness toward the Red Sea. And the Israelites went up marshaled out of the land of Egypt.

Assim, Deus fez o povo dar a volta pelo deserto, seguindo o caminho que leva ao mar Vermelho. Os israelitas saíram do Egito preparados para lutar.

19 A nd Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for had strictly sworn the Israelites, saying, Surely God will be with you, and you must carry my bones away from here with you.

Moisés levou os ossos de José, porque José havia feito os filhos de Israel prestarem um juramento, quando disse: “Deus certamente virá em auxílio de vocês; levem então os meus ossos daqui”.

20 T hey journeyed from Succoth and encamped at Etham on the edge of the wilderness.

Os israelitas partiram de Sucote e acamparam em Etã, junto ao deserto.

21 T he Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead them along the way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night.

Durante o dia o Senhor ia adiante deles, numa coluna de nuvem, para guiá-los no caminho, e de noite, numa coluna de fogo, para iluminá-los, e assim podiam caminhar de dia e de noite.

22 T he pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night did not depart from before the people.

A coluna de nuvem não se afastava do povo de dia, nem a coluna de fogo, de noite.
