1 S olomon determined to build a temple for the Name of the Lord and a royal capitol.

Salomão deu ordens para a construção de um templo em honra ao nome do Senhor e de um palácio para si mesmo.

2 A nd Solomon counted out 70, 000 men to bear burdens, 80, 000 to be stonecutters in the hill country, and 3, 600 overseers.

Ele designou setenta mil homens como carregadores, oitenta mil como cortadores de pedras nas colinas e três mil e seiscentos como capatazes.

3 A nd Solomon sent to Hiram king of Tyre, saying, As you dealt with David my father and sent him cedars to build himself a house in which to dwell, even so deal with me.

Depois Salomão enviou esta mensagem a Hirão, rei de Tiro: “Envia-me cedros como fizeste para meu pai Davi, quando ele construiu seu palácio.

4 B ehold, I am about to build a house for the Name of the Lord my God, dedicated to Him for the burning of incense of sweet spices before Him, for the continual showbread, and for the burnt offerings morning and evening, on the Sabbaths, New Moons, and on the solemn feasts of the Lord our God, as ordained forever for Israel.

Agora estou para construir um templo em honra ao nome do Senhor, o meu Deus, e dedicá-lo a ele, para queimar incenso aromático diante dele, apresentar regularmente o pão consagrado e fazer holocaustos todas as manhãs e todas as tardes, nos sábados, nas luas novas e nas festas fixas do Senhor, o nosso Deus. Esse é um decreto perpétuo para Israel.

5 T he house which I am to build is great, for our God is greater than all gods.

“O templo que vou construir será grande, pois o nosso Deus é maior do que todos os outros deuses.

6 B ut who is able to build Him a house, since heaven, even highest heaven, cannot contain Him? Who am I to build Him a house, except as a place to burn incense in worship before Him?

Mas, quem é capaz de construir um templo para ele, visto que os céus não podem contê-lo, nem mesmo os mais altos céus? Quem sou eu, então, para lhe construir um templo, a não ser como um lugar para queimar sacrifícios perante ele?

7 N ow therefore, send a man skilled to work in gold, silver, bronze, and iron, and in purple, crimson, and blue colors, who is a trained engraver, to work with the skilled men who are with me in Judah and Jerusalem, whom David my father provided.

“Por isso, manda-me um homem competente no trabalho com ouro, com prata, com bronze, com ferro e com tecido roxo, vermelho e azul, e experiente em esculturas, para trabalhar em Judá e em Jerusalém com os meus hábeis artesãos, preparados por meu pai Davi.

8 S end me also from Lebanon cedar, cypress, and algum timber, for I know your servants can skillfully cut timber in Lebanon; and my servants will be with your servants,

“Também envia-me do Líbano madeira de cedro, de pinho e de junípero, pois eu sei que os teus servos são hábeis em cortar a madeira de lá. Os meus servos trabalharão com os teus

9 T o prepare for me timber in abundance, for the house I am about to build shall be great and wonderful.

para me fornecerem madeira em grande quantidade, pois é preciso que o templo que vou edificar seja grande e imponente.

10 A nd I will give to your servants who cut timber 20, 000 measures of crushed wheat and also of barley, and 20, 000 baths of wine and also of oil.

E eu darei como sustento a teus servos, os lenhadores, vinte mil tonéis de trigo, vinte mil tonéis de cevada, dois mil barris de vinho e dois mil barris de azeite”.

11 T hen Hiram king of Tyre replied in writing sent to Solomon, Because the Lord loves His people, He has made you king over them.

Hirão, rei de Tiro, respondeu por carta a Salomão: “O Senhor ama o seu povo, e por isso te fez rei sobre ele”.

12 H iram said also, Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, Who made heaven and earth, Who has given to David the king a wise son, endued with prudence and understanding, who should build a house for the Lord and a royal palace as his capitol.

E acrescentou: “Bendito seja o Senhor, o Deus de Israel, que fez os céus e a terra, pois deu ao rei Davi um filho sábio, que tem inteligência e discernimento, e que vai construir um templo para o Senhor e um palácio para si.

13 N ow I have sent a skilled man, endued with understanding, even Huram-abi, my trusted counselor,

“Estou te enviando Hurão-Abi, homem de grande habilidade.

14 T he son of a woman of the daughters of Dan; his father was a man of Tyre. He is a trained worker in gold, silver, bronze, iron, stone, and wood; in purple, blue, and crimson colors, and in fine linen; and also to engrave any type of engraving and to carry out any design given him, with your skilled men and those of my lord, David your father.

Sua mãe era de Dã e seu pai, de Tiro. Ele foi treinado para trabalhar com ouro e prata, bronze e ferro, pedra e madeira, e em tecido roxo, azul e vermelho, em linho fino e em todo tipo de entalhe. Ele pode executar qualquer projeto que lhe for dado. Trabalhará com os teus artesãos e com os de meu senhor Davi, teu pai.

15 N ow therefore, the wheat, barley, oil, and wine of which my lord has spoken, let him send them to his servants,

“Agora, envia meu senhor a teus servos o trigo, a cevada, o azeite e o vinho que o meu senhor prometeu,

16 A nd we will cut whatever timber you need from Lebanon and bring it to you in rafts by sea to Joppa, so you may take it up to Jerusalem.

e cortaremos toda a madeira do Líbano necessária, e a faremos flutuar em jangadas pelo mar, descendo até Jope. De lá poderás levá-la a Jerusalém”.

17 T hen Solomon took a census of all the aliens in the land of Israel, like the census of them which his father David had taken. They were found to be 153, 600.

Salomão fez um recenseamento de todos os estrangeiros que viviam em Israel, como o que fizera seu pai Davi; e descobriu-se que eram cento e cinqüenta e três mil e seiscentos.

18 A nd he assigned 70, 000 of them to be burden bearers, 80, 000 to work in the mountain quarries, and 3, 600 as overseers to direct the people’s work.

Ele designou setenta mil deles para serem carregadores e oitenta mil para serem cortadores de pedras nas colinas, com três mil e seiscentos capatazes para manter o povo trabalhando.
