1 E lihu spoke further and said,

Disse mais Eliú:

2 D o you think this is your right, or are you saying, My righteousness is more than God’s,

Tens por direito dizeres: Maior é a minha justiça do que a de Deus?

3 T hat you ask, What advantage have you? How am I profited more than if I had sinned?

Porque dizes: Que me aproveita? Que proveito tenho mais do que se eu tivera pecado?

4 I will answer you and your companions with you.

Eu te darei respostas, a ti e aos teus amigos contigo.

5 L ook to the heavens and see; and behold the skies which are higher than you.

Atenta para os céus, e vê; e contempla o firmamento que é mais alto do que tu.

6 I f you have sinned, how does that affect God? And if your transgressions are multiplied, what have you done to Him?

Se pecares, que efetuarás contra ele? Se as tuas transgressões se multiplicarem, que lhe farás com isso?

7 I f you are righteous, what do you give God? Or what does He receive from your hand?

Se fores justo, que lhe darás, ou que receberá ele da tua mão?

8 Y our wickedness touches and affects a man such as you are, and your righteousness is for yourself, one of the human race.

A tua impiedade poderia fazer mal a outro tal como tu; e a tua justiça poderia aproveitar a um filho do homem.

9 B ecause of the multitudes of oppressions the people cry out; they cry for help because of the violence of the mighty.

Por causa da multidão das opressões os homens clamam; clamam por socorro por causa do braço dos poderosos.

10 B ut no one says, Where is God my Maker, Who gives songs of rejoicing in the night,

Mas ninguém diz: Onde está Deus meu Criador, que inspira canções durante a noite;

11 W ho teaches us more than the beasts of the earth and makes us wiser than the birds of the heavens?

que nos ensina mais do que aos animais da terra, e nos faz mais sábios do que as aves do céu?

12 c ry out because of the pride of evil men, but He does not answer.

Ali clamam, porém ele não responde, por causa da arrogância os maus.

13 S urely God will refuse to answer vanity (vain and empty—instead of abiding trust); neither will the Almighty regard it—

Certo é que Deus não ouve o grito da vaidade, nem para ela atentará o Todo-Poderoso.

14 H ow much less when you say that you do not see Him, that your cause is before Him, and you are waiting for Him!

Quanto menos quando tu dizes que não o vês. A causa está perante ele; por isso espera nele.

15 B ut now because God has not punished in His anger and seems to be unaware of the wrong and oppression,

Mas agora, porque a sua ira ainda não se exerce, nem grandemente considera ele a arrogância,

16 J ob uselessly opens his mouth and multiplies words without knowledge.

por isso abre Jó em vão a sua boca, e sem conhecimento multiplica palavras.
