1 B ut Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.

Mas Jesus foi para o Monte das Oliveiras.

2 E arly in the morning (at dawn), He came back into the temple '> court], and the people came to Him in crowds. He sat down and was teaching them,

Pela manhã cedo voltou ao templo, e todo o povo vinha ter com ele; e Jesus, sentando-se o ensinava.

3 W hen the scribes and Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery. They made her stand in the middle of the court and put the case before Him.

Então os escribas e fariseus trouxeram-lhe uma mulher apanhada em adultério; e pondo-a no meio,

4 T eacher, they said, This woman has been caught in the very act of adultery.

disseram-lhe: Mestre, esta mulher foi apanhada em flagrante adultério.

5 N ow Moses in the Law commanded us that such shall be stoned to death. But what do You say ?

Ora, Moisés nos ordena na lei que as tais sejam apedrejadas. Tu, pois, que dizes?

6 T his they said to try (test) Him, hoping they might find a charge on which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger.

Isto diziam eles, tentando-o, para terem de que o acusar. Jesus, porém, inclinando-se, começou a escrever no chão com o dedo.

7 H owever, when they persisted with their question, He raised Himself up and said, Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.

Mas, como insistissem em perguntar-lhe, ergueu-se e disse- lhes: Aquele dentre vós que está sem pecado seja o primeiro que lhe atire uma pedra.

8 T hen He bent down and went on writing on the ground with His finger.

E, tornando a inclinar-se, escrevia na terra.

9 T hey listened to Him, and then they began going out, conscience-stricken, one by one, from the oldest down to the last one of them, till Jesus was left alone, with the woman standing there before Him in the center of the court.

Quando ouviram isto foram saindo um a um, a começar pelos mais velhos, até os últimos; ficou só Jesus, e a mulher ali em pé.

10 W hen Jesus raised Himself up, He said to her, Woman, where are your accusers? Has no man condemned you?

Então, erguendo-se Jesus e não vendo a ninguém senão a mulher, perguntou-lhe: Mulher, onde estão aqueles teus acusadores? Ninguém te condenou?

11 S he answered, No one, Lord! And Jesus said, I do not condemn you either. Go on your way and from now on sin no more.

Respondeu ela: Ninguém, Senhor. E disse-lhe Jesus: Nem eu te condeno; vai-te, e não peques mais.]

12 O nce more Jesus addressed the crowd. He said, I am the Light of the world. He who follows Me will not be walking in the dark, but will have the Light which is Life.

Então Jesus tornou a falar-lhes, dizendo: Eu sou a luz do mundo; quem me segue de modo algum andará em trevas, mas terá a luz da vida.

13 W hereupon the Pharisees told Him, You are testifying on Your own behalf; Your testimony is not valid and is worthless.

Disseram-lhe, pois, os fariseus: Tu dás testemunho de ti mesmo; o teu testemunho não é verdadeiro.

14 J esus answered, Even if I do testify on My own behalf, My testimony is true and reliable and valid, for I know where I came from and where I am going; but you do not know where I come from or where I am going.

Respondeu-lhes Jesus: Ainda que eu dou testemunho de mim mesmo, o meu testemunho é verdadeiro; porque sei donde vim, e para onde vou; mas vós não sabeis donde venho, nem para onde vou.

15 Y ou judge according to the flesh (by what you see). I do not judge or condemn or sentence anyone.

Vós julgais segundo a carne; eu a ninguém julgo.

16 Y et even if I do judge, My judgment is true; for I am not alone, but I and the Father, Who sent Me.

E, mesmo que eu julgue, o meu juízo é verdadeiro; porque não sou eu só, mas eu e o Pai que me enviou.

17 I n your Law it is written that the testimony (evidence) of two persons is reliable and valid.

Ora, na vossa lei está escrito que o testemunho de dois homens é verdadeiro.

18 I am One bearing testimony concerning Myself; and My Father, Who sent Me, He also testifies about Me.

Sou eu que dou testemunho de mim mesmo, e o Pai que me enviou, também dá testemunho de mim.

19 T hen they said to Him, Where is this Father of Yours? Jesus answered, You know My Father as little as you know Me. If you knew Me, you would know My Father also.

Perguntavam-lhe, pois: Onde está teu pai? Jesus respondeu: Não me conheceis a mim, nem a meu Pai; se vós me conhecêsseis a mim, também conheceríeis a meu Pai.

20 J esus said these things in the treasury while He was teaching in the temple '> court]; but no one ventured to arrest Him, because His hour had not yet come.

Essas palavras proferiu Jesus no lugar do tesouro, quando ensinava no templo; e ninguém o prendeu, porque ainda não era chegada a sua hora.

21 T herefore He said again to them, I am going away, and you will be looking for Me, and you will die in (under the curse of) your sin. Where I am going, it is not possible for you to come.

Disse-lhes, pois, Jesus outra vez: Eu me retiro; buscar-me- eis, e morrereis no vosso pecado. Para onde eu vou, vós não podeis ir.

22 A t this the Jews began to ask among themselves, Will He kill Himself? Is that why He says, Where I am going, it is not possible for you to come?

Então diziam os judeus: Será que ele vai suicidar-se, pois diz: Para onde eu vou, vós não podeis ir?

23 H e said to them, You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world (of this earthly order); I am not of this world.

Disse-lhes ele: Vós sois de baixo, eu sou de cima; vós sois deste mundo, eu não sou deste mundo.

24 T hat is why I told you that you will die in (under the curse of) your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.

Por isso vos disse que morrereis em vossos pecados; porque, se não crerdes que eu sou, morrereis em vossos pecados.

25 T hen they said to Him, Who are You anyway? Jesus replied, I am exactly what I have been telling you from the first.

Perguntavam-lhe então: Quem és tu? Respondeu-lhes Jesus: Exatamente o que venho dizendo que sou.

26 I have much to say about you and to judge and condemn. But He Who sent Me is true (reliable), and I tell the world the things that I have heard from Him.

Muitas coisas tenho que dizer e julgar acerca de vós; mas aquele que me enviou é verdadeiro; e o que dele ouvi, isso falo ao mundo.

27 T hey did not perceive (know, understand) that He was speaking to them about the Father.

Eles não perceberam que lhes falava do Pai.

28 S o Jesus added, When you have lifted up the Son of Man, you will realize (know, understand) that I am He and that I do nothing of Myself (of My own accord or on My own authority), but I say what My Father has taught Me.

Prosseguiu, pois, Jesus: Quando tiverdes levantado o Filho do homem, então conhecereis que eu sou, e que nada faço de mim mesmo; mas como o Pai me ensinou, assim falo.

29 A nd He Who sent Me is ever with Me; My Father has not left Me alone, for I always do what pleases Him.

E aquele que me enviou está comigo; não me tem deixado só; porque faço sempre o que é do seu agrado.

30 A s He said these things, many believed in Him.

Falando ele estas coisas, muitos creram nele.

31 S o Jesus said to those Jews who had believed in Him, If you abide in My word, you are truly My disciples.

Dizia, pois, Jesus aos judeus que nele creram: Se vós permanecerdes na minha palavra, verdadeiramente sois meus discípulos;

32 A nd you will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free.

e conhecereis a verdade, e a verdade vos libertará.

33 T hey answered Him, We are Abraham’s offspring (descendants) and have never been in bondage to anybody. What do You mean by saying, You will be set free?

Responderam-lhe: Somos descendentes de Abraão, e nunca fomos escravos de ninguém; como dizes tu: Sereis livres?

34 J esus answered them, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, Whoever commits and practices sin is the slave of sin.

Replicou-lhes Jesus: Em verdade, em verdade vos digo que todo aquele que comete pecado é escravo do pecado.

35 N ow a slave does not remain in a household permanently (forever); the son does remain forever.

Ora, o escravo não fica para sempre na casa; o filho fica para sempre.

36 S o if the Son liberates you, then you are really and unquestionably free.

Se, pois, o Filho vos libertar, verdadeiramente sereis livres.

37 I know that you are Abraham’s offspring; yet you plan to kill Me, because My word has no entrance (makes no progress, does not find any place) in you.

Bem sei que sois descendência de Abraão; contudo, procurais matar-me, porque a minha palavra não encontra lugar em vós.

38 I tell the things which I have seen and learned at My Father’s side, and your actions also reflect what you have heard and learned from your father.

Eu falo do que vi junto de meu Pai; e vós fazeis o que também ouvistes de vosso pai.

39 T hey retorted, Abraham is our father. Jesus said, If you were Abraham’s children, then you would do the works of Abraham.

Responderam-lhe: Nosso pai é Abraão. Disse-lhes Jesus: Se sois filhos de Abraão, fazei as obras de Abraão.

40 B ut now you are wanting and seeking to kill Me, a Man Who has told you the truth which I have heard from God. This is not the way Abraham acted.

Mas agora procurais matar-me, a mim que vos falei a verdade que de Deus ouvi; isso Abraão não fez.

41 Y ou are doing the works of your father. They said to Him, We are not illegitimate children and born out of fornication; we have one Father, even God.

Vós fazeis as obras de vosso pai. Replicaram-lhe eles: Nós não somos nascidos de prostituição; temos um Pai, que é Deus.

42 J esus said to them, If God were your Father, you would love Me and respect Me and welcome Me gladly, for I proceeded (came forth) from God. I did not even come on My own authority or of My own accord (as self-appointed); but He sent Me.

Respondeu-lhes Jesus: Se Deus fosse o vosso Pai, vós me amaríeis, porque eu saí e vim de Deus; pois não vim de mim mesmo, mas ele me enviou.

43 W hy do you misunderstand what I say? It is because you are unable to hear what I am saying.

Por que não compreendeis a minha linguagem? é porque não podeis ouvir a minha palavra.

44 Y ou are of your father, the devil, and it is your will to practice the lusts and gratify the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a falsehood, he speaks what is natural to him, for he is a liar and the father of lies and of all that is false.

Vós tendes por pai o Diabo, e quereis satisfazer os desejos de vosso pai; ele é homicida desde o princípio, e nunca se firmou na verdade, porque nele não há verdade; quando ele profere mentira, fala do que lhe é próprio; porque é mentiroso, e pai da mentira.

45 B ut because I speak the truth, you do not believe Me.

Mas porque eu digo a verdade, não me credes.

46 W ho of you convicts Me of wrongdoing or finds Me guilty of sin? Then if I speak truth, why do you not believe Me ?

Quem dentre vós me convence de pecado? Se digo a verdade, por que não me credes?

47 W hoever is of God listens to God. This is the reason that you do not listen: because you do not belong to God and are not of God or in harmony with Him.

Quem é de Deus ouve as palavras de Deus; por isso vós não as ouvis, porque não sois de Deus.

48 T he Jews answered Him, Are we not right when we say You are a Samaritan and that You have a demon ?

Responderam-lhe os judeus: Não dizemos com razão que és samaritano, e que tens demônio?

49 J esus answered, I am not possessed by a demon. On the contrary, I honor and reverence My Father and you dishonor (despise, vilify, and scorn) Me.

Jesus respondeu: Eu não tenho demônio; antes honro a meu Pai, e vós me desonrais.

50 H owever, I am not in search of honor for Myself. There is One Who seeks, and He is the Judge.

Eu não busco a minha glória; há quem a busque, e julgue.

51 I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, if anyone observes My teaching, he will by no means ever see and experience death.

Em verdade, em verdade vos digo que, se alguém guardar a minha palavra, nunca verá a morte.

52 T he Jews said to Him, Now we know that You are under the power of a demon ( insane). Abraham died, and also the prophets, yet You say, If a man keeps My word, he will never taste of death into all eternity.

Disseram-lhe os judeus: Agora sabemos que tens demônios. Abraão morreu, e também os profetas; e tu dizes: Se alguém guardar a minha palavra, nunca provará a morte!

53 A re You greater than our father Abraham? He died, and all the prophets died! Who do You make Yourself out to be?

Porventura és tu maior do que nosso pai Abraão, que morreu? Também os profetas morreram; quem pretendes tu ser?

54 J esus answered, If I were to glorify Myself (magnify, praise, and honor Myself), I would have no real glory, for My glory would be nothing and worthless. It is My Father Who glorifies Me, of Whom you say that He is your God.

Respondeu Jesus: Se eu me glorificar a mim mesmo, a minha glória não é nada; quem me glorifica é meu Pai, do qual vós dizeis que é o vosso Deus;

55 Y et you do not know Him or recognize Him and are not acquainted with Him, but I know Him. If I should say that I do not know Him, I would be a liar like you. But I know Him and keep His word.

e vós não o conheceis; mas eu o conheço; e se disser que não o conheço, serei mentiroso como vós; mas eu o conheço, e guardo a sua palavra.

56 Y our forefather Abraham was extremely happy at the hope and prospect of seeing My day (My incarnation); and he did see it and was delighted.

Abraão, vosso pai, exultou por ver o meu dia; viu-o, e alegrou-se.

57 T hen the Jews said to Him, You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?

Disseram-lhe, pois, os judeus: Ainda não tens cinquenta anos, e viste Abraão?

58 J esus replied, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, before Abraham was born, I Am.

Respondeu-lhes Jesus: Em verdade, em verdade vos digo que antes que Abraão existisse, eu sou.

59 S o they took up stones to throw at Him, but Jesus, by mixing with the crowd, concealed Himself and went out of the temple '> enclosure].

Então pegaram em pedras para lhe atirarem; mas Jesus ocultou-se, e saiu do templo.
