1 F irst of all, then, I admonish and urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be offered on behalf of all men,

2 F or kings and all who are in positions of authority or high responsibility, that we may pass a quiet and undisturbed life a peaceable one in all godliness and reverence and seriousness in every way.

3 F or such is good and right, and pleasing and acceptable to God our Savior,

Questo infatti è buono ed accettevole davanti a Dio, nostro Salvatore,

4 W ho wishes all men to be saved and to perceive and recognize and discern and know precisely and correctly the Truth.

il quale vuole che tutti gli uomini siano salvati, e che vengano alla conoscenza della verità.

5 F or there one God, and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,

Vi è infatti un solo Dio, ed anche un solo mediatore tra Dio e gli uomini: Cristo Gesú uomo,

6 W ho gave Himself as a ransom for all attested to at the right and proper time.

il quale ha dato se stesso come prezzo di riscatto per tutti, secondo la testimonianza resa nei tempi stabiliti,

7 A nd of this matter I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (special messenger)—I am speaking the truth in Christ, I do not falsify —a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.

di cui io sono stato costituito banditore e apostolo (dico la verità in Cristo e non mento), dottore dei gentili nella fede e nella verità.

8 I desire therefore that in every place men should pray, without anger or quarreling or resentment or doubt, lifting up holy hands.

Voglio dunque che gli uomini preghino in ogni luogo, alzando le mani pure, senza ira e dispute.

9 A lso that women should adorn themselves modestly and appropriately and sensibly in seemly apparel, not with hair arrangement or gold or pearls or expensive clothing,

Similmente le donne si vestano in modo decoroso, con verecondia e modestia e non di trecce o d'oro, o di perle o di abiti costosi

10 B ut by doing good deeds (deeds in themselves good and for the good and advantage of those contacted by them), as befits women who profess reverential fear for and devotion to God.

ma di buone opere, come conviene a donne che fanno professione di pietà.

11 L et a woman learn in quietness, in entire submissiveness.

La donna impari in silenzio, con ogni sottomissione.

12 I allow no woman to teach or to have authority over men; she is to remain in quietness and keep silence.

Non permetto alla donna d'insegnare, né di usare autorità sull'uomo, ma ordino che stia in silenzio.

13 F or Adam was first formed, then Eve;

Infatti è stato formato per primo Adamo e poi Eva.

14 A nd it was not Adam who was deceived, but woman who was deceived and deluded and fell into transgression.

E non fu Adamo ad essere sedotto ma fu la donna che, essendo stata sedotta, cadde in trasgressione.

15 N evertheless they will be saved if they continue in faith and love and holiness with self-control, through the Childbearing or by the birth of the divine Child.

Tuttavia essa sarà salvata partorendo figli, se persevererà nella fede, nell'amore e nella santificazione con modestia.
