1 T he word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord:

2 T hus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Write all the words that I have spoken to you in a book.

3 F or, note well, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will release from captivity My people Israel and Judah, says the Lord, and I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they will possess it.

perché, ecco, i giorni vengono, dice l'Eterno, nei quali io farò ritornare dalla cattività il mio popolo d'Israele e di Giuda, dice l'Eterno, e li ricondurrò nel paese che diedi ai loro padri, ed essi lo possederanno».

4 A nd these are the words the Lord spoke concerning Israel and Judah:

5 T hus says the Lord: We have heard a voice of trembling and panic—of terror, and not peace.

«Cosí dice l'Eterno: Noi abbiamo udito un grido di terrore, di spavento e non di pace.

6 A sk now and see whether a man can give birth to a child? Why then do I see every man with his hands on his loins like a woman in labor? Why are all faces turned pale?

Informatevi e vedete se un maschio può partorire. Perché dunque vedo tutti gli uomini con le mani sui loro lombi, come una donna che sta per partorire? Perché tutte le facce sono diventate pallide?

7 A las! for that day will be great, so that none will be like it; it will be the time of Jacob’s trouble, but he will be saved out of it.

Ahimè, perché quel giorno è grande; non ve ne fu mai alcuno simile; sarà un tempo di angoscia per Giacobbe, ma egli ne sarà salvato.

8 F or it will come to pass in that day, says the Lord of hosts, that I will break yoke from your neck, and I will burst your bonds; and strangers will no more make slaves of.

In quel giorno avverrà», dice l'Eterno degli eserciti, «che io spezzerò il suo giogo dal tuo collo e romperò i tuoi legami; gli stranieri non ti faranno piú loro schiavo.

9 B ut they will serve the Lord their God and David’s their King, Whom I will raise up for them.

Ma quei d'Israele serviranno l'Eterno, il loro DIO, e Davide, loro re, che io susciterò per loro.

10 T herefore fear not, O My servant Jacob, says the Lord, nor be dismayed or cast down, O Israel; for behold, I will save you out of a distant land and your posterity from the land of their captivity. Jacob will return and will be quiet and at ease, and none will make him afraid or cause him to be terrorized and to tremble.

Tu dunque, o mio servo Giacobbe, non temere», dice l'Eterno; «non spaventarti o Israele, perché, ecco, io ti salverò dal lontano paese e la tua discendenza dal paese della sua cattività. Giacobbe ritornerà, avrà riposo, starà tranquillo e nessuno piú lo spaventerà.

11 F or I am with you, says the Lord, to save you; for I will make a full and complete end of all the nations to which I have scattered you, but I will not make a full and complete end of you. But I will correct you in measure and with judgment and will in no sense hold you guiltless or leave you unpunished.

Poiché io sono con te», dice l'Eterno, «per salvarti. Io sterminerò tutte le nazioni in mezzo alle quali ti ho disperso; tuttavia non sterminerò te, ma ti castigherò con giustizia e non ti lascerò del tutto impunito».

12 F or thus says the Lord: Your hurt is incurable and your wound is grievous.

Cosí dice l'Eterno: «Il tuo male è incurabile, la tua ferita è grave.

13 T here is none to plead your cause; for your wound you have no healing, no binding plaster.

Nessuno difende la tua causa; cosí non c'è nessuna medicina per la tua ferita né guarigione per te.

14 A ll your lovers (allies) have forgotten you; they neither seek, inquire of, or require you. For I have hurt you with the wound of an enemy, with the chastisement of a cruel and merciless foe, because of the greatness of your perversity and guilt, because your sins are glaring and innumerable.

Tutti i tuoi amanti ti hanno dimenticata, non si prendono cura di te, perché ti ho colpito con percossa da nemico, con un castigo di uno crudele, per la grandezza della tua iniquità, per la moltitudine dei tuoi peccati.

15 W hy do you cry out because of your hurt ? Your pain is deadly (incurable). Because of the greatness of your perversity and guilt, because your sins are glaring and innumerable, I have done these things to you.

Perché gridi a causa del tuo male? Il tuo dolore è insanabile. Io ti ho fatto queste cose per la grandezza della tua iniquità, per la moltitudine dei tuoi peccati.

16 T herefore all who devour you will be devoured; and all your adversaries, every one of them, will go into captivity. And they who despoil you will become a spoil, and all who prey upon you will I give for a prey.

Ma tutti quelli che ti divorano saranno divorati, tutti i tuoi nemici, tutti quanti, andranno in cattività; quelli che ti saccheggiano saranno abbandonati al saccheggio e i tuoi depredatori li lascerò essere depredati.

17 F or I will restore health to you, and I will heal your wounds, says the Lord, because they have called you an outcast, saying, This is Zion, whom no one seeks after and for whom no one cares!

Sí, io ti ridarò salute e ti guarirò dalle tue ferite», dice l'Eterno, «perché ti chiamano "La scacciata" dicendo: "Questa è Sion di cui nessuno si prende cura"».

18 T hus says the Lord: Behold, I will release from captivity the tents of Jacob and have mercy on his dwelling places; the city will be rebuilt on its own moundlike site, and the palace will be dwelt in after its former fashion.

Cosí dice l'Eterno: «Ecco, io farò ritornare dalla cattività le tende di Giacobbe e avrò pietà delle sue dimore; la città sarà ricostruita sulle sue rovine e il palazzo sarà stabilito nel suo giusto posto.

19 O ut of them will come songs of thanksgiving and the voices of those who make merry. And I will multiply them, and they will not be few; I will also glorify them, and they will not be small.

Usciranno da essi canti di ringraziamento e voci di gente in festa; li farò moltiplicare e non diminuire, li renderò onorati e non saranno piú umiliati.

20 T heir children too shall be as in former times, and their congregation shall be established before Me, and I will punish all who oppress them.

I suoi figli saranno come una volta e la sua assemblea sarà resa stabile davanti a me, ma punirò tutti i loro oppressori.

21 A nd their prince will be one of them, and their ruler will come from the midst of them. I will cause him to draw near and he will approach Me, for who is he who would have the boldness and would dare to approach Me? says the Lord.

Il suo principe sarà uno di essi, e il suo dominatore uscirà di mezzo a loro; io lo farò avvicinare ed egli si accosterà a me. Chi infatti disporrebbe il suo cuore per avvicinarsi a me?», dice l'Eterno.

22 T hen you will be My people, and I will be your God.

«Voi sarete il mio popolo, e io sarò il vostro Dio»,

23 B ehold, the tempest of the Lord has gone forth with wrath, a sweeping and gathering tempest; it shall whirl and burst upon the heads of the wicked.

Ecco la tempesta dell'Eterno si scatena furiosa, una tempesta travolgente cadrà violentemente sul capo degli empi.

24 T he fierce anger and indignation of the Lord shall not turn back until He has executed and accomplished the thoughts and intents of His mind and heart. In the latter days you shall understand this.

L'ardente ira dell'Eterno non si acquieterà, finché non abbia compiuto e finché non abbia realizzato i disegni del suo cuore. Negli ultimi giorni lo capirete.
