1 I n You, O Lord, do I put my trust and seek refuge; let me never be put to shame or disappointed; deliver me in Your righteousness!

«Al al maestro del coro. Salmo di Davide» In te, o Eterno, mi sono rifugiato; fa' che io non sia mai confuso; liberami per la tua giustizia.

2 B ow down Your ear to me, deliver me speedily! Be my Rock of refuge, a strong Fortress to save me!

Porgi a me il tuo orecchio, affrettati a liberarmi; sii per me una forte rocca e un luogo fortificato per salvarmi.

3 Y es, You are my Rock and my Fortress; therefore for Your name’s sake lead me and guide me.

Poiché tu sei la mia rocca e la mia fortezza; per amor del tuo nome guidami e conducimi.

4 D raw me out of the net that they have laid secretly for me, for You are my Strength and my Stronghold.

Trammi fuori dalla rete che mi han teso di nascosto, perché tu sei la mia roccaforte.

5 I nto Your hands I commit my spirit; You have redeemed me, O Lord, the God of truth and faithfulness.

Nelle tue mani io rimetto il mio spirito; tu mi hai riscattato, o Eterno, Dio di verità.

6 I abhor those who pay regard to vain idols; but I trust in, rely on, and confidently lean on the Lord.

Io detesto quelli che si attaccano a vanità ingannatrici, ma confido nell'Eterno.

7 I will be glad and rejoice in Your mercy and steadfast love, because You have seen my affliction, You have taken note of my life’s distresses,

Esulterò e mi rallegrerò per la tua benignità, perché tu hai visto la mia afflizione e hai compreso le angosce della mia anima,

8 A nd You have not given me into the hand of the enemy; You have set my feet in a broad place.

e non mi hai dato in mano del nemico, ma hai messo i miei piedi in un luogo spazioso.

9 H ave mercy and be gracious unto me, O Lord, for I am in trouble; with grief my eye is weakened, also my inner self and my body.

Abbi pietà di me, o Eterno, perché sono angosciato; il mio occhio, la mia anima e le mie viscere sono consumati dal dolore,

10 F or my life is spent with sorrow and my years with sighing; my strength has failed because of my iniquity, and even my bones have wasted away.

perché la mia vita vien meno per l'afflizione e i miei anni per il pianto; la mia forza viene meno a causa del mio peccato e le mie ossa si consumano.

11 T o all my enemies I have become a reproach, but especially to my neighbors, and a dread to my acquaintances, who flee from me on the street.

Sono diventato un obbrobrio per tutti i miei nemici, soprattutto per i miei vicini e uno spavento per i miei conoscenti, quelli che mi vedono in strada fuggono lontano da me.

12 I am forgotten like a dead man, and out of mind; like a broken vessel am I.

Sono dimenticato dal cuore loro come un uomo morto; sono simile a un vaso rotto.

13 F or I have heard the slander of many; terror is on every side! While they schemed together against me, they plotted to take my life.

Poiché odo le calunnie di molti, tutt'intorno è spavento, mentre essi si consigliano assieme contro di me e complottano di togliermi la vita.

14 B ut I trusted in, relied on, and was confident in You, O Lord; I said, You are my God.

Ma io, o Eterno, confido in te; ho detto: «Tu sei il mio DIO».

15 M y times are in Your hands; deliver me from the hands of my foes and those who pursue me and persecute me.

I miei giorni sono nelle tue mani; liberami dalla mano dei miei nemici e da quelli che mi perseguitano.

16 L et Your face shine on Your servant; save me for Your mercy’s sake and in Your loving-kindness.

Fa' risplendere il tuo volto sul tuo servo; salvami per la tua benignità.

17 L et me not be put to shame, O Lord, or disappointed, for I am calling upon You; let the wicked be put to shame, let them be silent in Sheol (the place of the dead).

O Eterno, fa che io non resti confuso, perché ti ho invocato siano confusi gli empi, e siano ridotti ai silenzio nello Sceol.

18 L et the lying lips be silenced, which speak insolently against the righteous with pride and contempt.

Ammutoliscano le labbra bugiarde, che parlano sfacciatamente contro il giusto, con alterigia e con disprezzo.

19 O h, how great is Your goodness, which You have laid up for those who fear, revere, and worship You, goodness which You have wrought for those who trust and take refuge in You before the sons of men!

Quanto è grande la tua bontà che riservi per quelli che ti temono, e che usi in presenza dei figli degli uomini verso quelli che si rifugiano in te!

20 I n the secret place of Your presence You hide them from the plots of men; You keep them secretly in Your pavilion from the strife of tongues.

Tu li nascondi nel segreto rifugio della tua presenza, dalle insidie degli uomini, tu li custodisci in una tenda al sicuro dalle contese verbali.

21 B lessed be the Lord! For He has shown me His marvelous loving favor when I was beset as in a besieged city.

Sia benedetto l'Eterno, perché mi ha usato grande benignità, mettendomi come in un luogo fortificato.

22 A s for me, I said in my haste and alarm, I am cut off from before Your eyes. But You heard the voice of my supplications when I cried to You for aid.

Quanto a me, nel mio smarrimento dicevo: «Io sono stato allontanato dalla tua presenza»; ma tu hai udito la voce delle mie suppliche quando ho gridato a te.

23 O love the Lord, all you His saints! The Lord preserves the faithful, and plentifully pays back him who deals haughtily.

Amate l'Eterno, voi tutti suoi santi! L'Eterno custodisce i fedeli e retribuisce largamente quelli che agiscono con alterigia.

24 B e strong and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for and hope for and expect the Lord!

Siate forti, o voi tutti che sperate nell'Eterno ed egli renderà saldo il vostro cuore.
