1 B lessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) is he who considers the weak and the poor; the Lord will deliver him in the time of evil and trouble.

«Al maestro del coro. Salmo di Davide.» Beato chi si prende cura del povero; l'Eterno lo libererà nel giorno dell'avversità.

2 T he Lord will protect him and keep him alive; he shall be called blessed in the land; and You will not deliver him to the will of his enemies.

L'Eterno lo custodirà e lo manterrà in vita; egli sarà reso felice sulla terra, e tu non lo darai in balía dei suoi nemici.

3 T he Lord will sustain, refresh, and strengthen him on his bed of languishing; all his bed You will turn, change, and transform in his illness.

L'Eterno lo sosterrà sul letto d'infermità; nella sua malattia tu, o Eterno, trasformerai completamente il suo letto.

4 I said, Lord, be merciful and gracious to me; heal my inner self, for I have sinned against You.

Io ho detto: «O Eterno, abbi pietà di me; guarisci l'anima mia, perché ho peccato contro di te».

5 M y enemies speak evil of me,, When will he die and his name perish?

I miei nemici mi augurano del male, dicendo: «Quando morrà e quando perirà il suo nome?».

6 A nd when one comes to see me, he speaks falsehood and empty words, while his heart gathers mischievous gossip; when he goes away, he tells it abroad.

Se uno di loro viene a vedermi, dice il falso, mentre il suo cuore accumula iniquità; poi esce fuori e la sparge in giro.

7 A ll who hate me whisper together about me; against me do they devise my hurt.

Tutti quelli che mi odiano bisbigliano insieme contro di me; contro di me tramano il male,

8 A n evil disease, say they, is poured out upon him and cleaves fast to him; and now that he is bedfast, he will not rise up again.

dicendo: «Un male terribile gli si è attaccato addosso e non si rialzerà mai piú dal luogo in cui giace».

9 E ven my own familiar friend, in whom I trusted (relied on and was confident), who ate of my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.

Persino il mio intimo amico, su cui facevo affidamento e che mangiava il mio pane, ha alzato contro di me il suo calcagno,

10 B ut You, O Lord, be merciful and gracious to me, and raise me up, that I may requite them.

Ma tu, o Eterno, abbi pietà di me e rialzami perche li possa ripagare.

11 B y this I know that You favor and delight in me, because my enemy does not triumph over me.

Da questo so che tu mi gradisci: se il mio nemico non trionfa su di me.

12 A nd as for me, You have upheld me in my integrity and set me in Your presence forever.

Quanto a me, tu mi hai sostenuto nella mia integrità e mi hai stabilito alla tua presenza per sempre.

13 B lessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, from everlasting and to everlasting! Amen and Amen (so be it).

Sia benedetto l'Eterno, il DIO d'Israele da sempre e per sempre. Amen, amen.
