1 I n the twelfth year, in the twelfth month, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

Nell'anno dodicesimo, il dodicesimo mese, il primo giorno del mese avvenne che la parola dell'Eterno mi fu rivolta, dicendo:

2 S on of man, take up a lamentation over Pharaoh king of Egypt and say to him, You have likened to a young lion, leader of the nations, but you are like a dragon in the seas; you break forth in your rivers and trouble the waters with your feet, and you make foul their rivers.

«Figlio d'uomo, innalza una lamentazione sul Faraone, re d'Egitto, e digli: Tu eri simile ad un leoncello fra le nazioni; eri come un dragone nei mari e ti slanciavi nei tuoi fiumi, agitando le acque con i tuoi piedi e intorbidandone i fiumi».

3 T hus says the Lord God: I will therefore throw out My net over you with a host of many peoples, and they shall bring you up in My dragnet.

Cosí dice il Signore l'Eterno: «Stenderò su di te la mia rete con un'assemblea di molti popoli che ti tireranno su con la mia rete.

4 T hen I will leave you upon the shore; I will cast you on the open field and will cause all the birds of the heavens to settle upon you, and I will fill the beasts of the whole earth with you.

Ti abbandonerò quindi sulla terra e ti getterò in aperta campagna, farò posare su di te tutti gli uccelli del cielo a e sazierò di te le bestie di tutta la terra.

5 A nd I will scatter your flesh upon the mountains and fill the valleys with your high heap of corpses and their worms.

Getterò la tua carne sui monti e riempirò le valli con il cumulo delle tue carcasse.

6 I will also water with your flowing blood the land, even to the mountains, and the hollows and water channels shall be full of you.

Darò pure da bere alla terra col flusso del tuo sangue, fino ai monti, e gli alvei saranno pieni di te.

7 A nd when I have extinguished you, I will cover the heavens and make their stars dark; I will cover the sun with a cloud and the moon shall not give her light.

Quando ti estinguerò, coprirò i cieli e ne oscurerò le stelle, coprirò il sole con una nuvola e la luna non darà piú la sua luce,

8 A ll the bright lights of the heavens I will make dark over you and set darkness upon your land, says the Lord God.

Su di te oscurerò tutti i luminari splendenti nel cielo e manderò le tenebre sul tuo paese», dice il Signore, l'Eterno.

9 I will also trouble and vex the hearts of many peoples when I bring your breaking and trembling and destruction and carry you captive among the nations, into the countries which you have not known.

«Affliggerò il cuore di molti popoli, quando farò giungere la tua distruzione fra le nazioni, in paesi che non conosci.

10 I will make many peoples amazed and appalled at you, and their kings shall shudder and be horribly afraid because of you when I brandish My sword before them; they shall tremble every moment, every man for his own life, in the day of your downfall.

Farò stupire per te molti popoli, e i loro re saranno presi da grande spavento per causa tua, quando brandirò la mia spada davanti a loro; ognuno di essi tremerà ad ogni istante per la sua vita, nel giorno della tua caduta».

11 F or thus says the Lord God: The sword of the king of Babylon shall come upon you.

Poiché cosí dice il Signore, l'Eterno: «La spada del re di Babilonia ti piomberà addosso.

12 I will cause your multitude, your tumult, and your store to fall by the swords of the mighty—the most terrible among the nations are they all. And they shall bring to nothing the pomp and pride of Egypt, and all its multitude shall be destroyed.

Farò cadere la tua moltitudine con le spade di uomini potenti, tutti quanti i piú terribili fra le nazioni; essi distruggeranno l'orgoglio dell'Egitto e tutta la sua moltitudine sarà annientata.

13 I will destroy also all its beasts from beside many and great waters, and no foot of man shall trouble them any more, nor shall the hoofs of beasts trouble them.

Farò perire tutto il suo bestiame sulle rive delle grandi acque che non saranno piú intorbidate da piede d'uomo, né unghia di bestia le intorbiderà.

14 T hen will I make their waters sink down (subside, be quiet, and become clear); their rivers I will cause to run like oil, says the Lord God.

Allora lascerò posare le loro acque e farò scorrere i loro fiumi come olio», dice il Signore, l'Eterno.

15 W hen I make the land of Egypt desolate, and the country is stripped and destitute of all that of which it was full when I smite all those who dwell in it, then will they know, understand, and realize that I am the Lord.

«Quando renderò il paese d'Egitto una desolazione e il paese sarà spogliato di ciò che conteneva, quando colpirò tutti i suoi abitanti, allora riconosceranno che io sono l'Eterno.

16 T his is the lamentation with which they shall intone or chant the lament for her; the daughters of the nations shall chant their lament with it; over Egypt and over all her multitude, her tumult, and her wealth in every sphere shall they chant it, says the Lord God.

Questa è una lamentazione che innalzeranno per lui, la innalzeranno per lui le figlie delle nazioni; la innalzeranno sull'Egitto e su tutta la sua moltitudine», dice il Signore, l'Eterno.

17 I n the twelfth year, on the fifteenth day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

18 S on of man, wail over the multitude of Egypt and cast them down, even her and the daughters of the famous and majestic nations, to the netherworld, with those who go down to the pit;

«Figlio d'uomo, intona un lamento sulla moltitudine dell'Egitto e falla scendere nelle profondità della terra, lei e le figlie delle nazioni famose, assieme a quelli che scendono nella fossa,

19 W hom do you surpass in beauty? Go down and be laid with the uncircumcised (the heathen).

Chi mai sorpassi in bellezza? Scendi e sii posto a giacere con gl'incirconcisi,

20 T hey shall fall in the midst of those who are slain by the sword; she is delivered to the sword; they draw her down, and all her multitudes.

Essi cadranno in mezzo agli uccisi di spada. Esso è consegnato alla spada, lo trascinano con tutte le sue moltitudini.

21 T he strong among the mighty shall speak of out of the midst of Sheol (the place of the dead, the netherworld) with those who helped him; they are gone down; they lie still, even the uncircumcised (the heathen) slain by the sword.

22 A ssyria is there and all her company; their graves are round about her, all of them slain, fallen by the sword,

Là è l'Assiria con tutta la sua moltitudine con i suoi sepolcri intorno a lei; sono tutti uccisi, caduti per la spada.

23 W hose graves are set in the uttermost parts of the pit and whose company is round about her grave, all of them slain, fallen by the sword, who caused terror to spread in the land of the living.

I suoi sepolcri sono posti nelle profondità della fossa e la sua moltitudine è intorno al suo sepolcro; tutti sono uccisi, caduti per la spada, essi che spargevano il terrore sulla terra dei viventi.

24 E lam is there and all her multitude round about her grave, all of them slain, fallen by the sword, who have gone down uncircumcised into the netherworld, who caused their terror to spread in the land of the living and have borne their shame with those who go down to the pit.

Là è Elam, con tutta la sua moltitudine intorno al suo sepolcro; sono tutti uccisi, caduti di spada, scesi incirconcisi nelle profondità della terra, essi che spargevano il terrore sulla terra dei viventi; ora portano la loro ignominia con quelli che scendono nella fossa.

25 T hey have set her a bed (a sepulcher) among the slain with all her multitude—their graves round about her, all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword, for their terror had spread in the land of the living, and they henceforth bear their shame with those who go down to the pit; they are laid in the midst of the slain.

Hanno posto il suo letto in mezzo agli uccisi con tutta la sua moltitudine, con i suoi sepolcri intorno a lui; sono tutti incirconcisi, trafitti dalla spada, perché avevano sparso il terrore sulla terra dei viventi; ora però portano la loro ignominia con quelli che scendono nella fossa; sono stati posti in mezzo agli uccisi.

26 M eshech, Tubal, and all their multitude are there; their graves are round about, all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword, for they caused their terror to be spread in the land of the living.

Là è Mescek, Tubal e tutta la loro moltitudine, con i suoi sepolcri intorno a lui; sono tutti incirconcisi, trafitti dalla spada, perché spargevano il terrore sulla terra dei viventi.

27 A nd they shall not lie with the mighty who have fallen of the uncircumcised who have gone down to Sheol (the place of the dead, the netherworld) with their weapons of war, whose swords were laid under their heads and whose iniquities are upon their bones, for they caused their terror to spread in the land of the living.

Non giacciono con gli eroi caduti degli incirconcisi, che sono scesi nello Sceol, con le loro armi da guerra, e le cui spade sono state poste sotto le loro teste; ma la punizione delle loro iniquità starà attaccata alle loro ossa, anche se il terrore di questi prodi era grande sulla terra dei viventi.

28 B ut you shall be broken in the midst of the uncircumcised and shall lie with those who are slain with the sword.

29 E dom is there, her kings and all her princes, who for all their might are laid with those who were slain by the sword; they shall lie with the uncircumcised (the heathen) and with those who go down to the pit.

Là è Edom, con i suoi re e tutti i suoi principi che, nonostante il loro valore, sono posti assieme ai trafitti dalla spada. Anch'essi giacciono con gl'incirconcisi e con quelli che scendono nella fossa.

30 T he princes of the north are there, all of them, and all the Sidonians, who have gone down with the slain; for all the terror which they caused by their might they are put to shame, and they lie uncircumcised with those who are slain by the sword and henceforth bear their shame with those who go down to the pit.

Là sono tutti i principi del nord e tutti i Sidoni, che sono discesi con i trafitti confusi per il terrore che incutevano con la loro potenza. Giacciono incirconcisi con i trafitti dalla spada e portano la loro ignominia con quelli che scendono nella fossa.

31 W hen Pharaoh sees them, he will comfort himself for all his multitude—even Pharaoh and all his army, slain by the sword, says the Lord God.

Il Faraone li vedrà e si consolerà per tutta la sua moltitudine; il Faraone e tutto il suo esercito saranno trafitti dalla spada», dice il Signore l'Eterno.

32 F or I have put his and My terror in the land of the living, and he shall be laid in the midst of the uncircumcised (the heathen) with those slain by the sword, even Pharaoh and all his multitude, says the Lord God.

«Anche se ho lasciato spargere il suo terrore nella terra dei viventi, il Faraone con tutta la sua moltitudine sarà posto a giacere in mezzo agl'incirconcisi, con i trafitti dalla spada», dice il Signore, l'Eterno.
