1 I n the twelfth year, in the twelfth month, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

La douzième année, le premier jour du douzième mois, la parole de l'Éternel me fut adressée, en ces mots:

2 S on of man, take up a lamentation over Pharaoh king of Egypt and say to him, You have likened to a young lion, leader of the nations, but you are like a dragon in the seas; you break forth in your rivers and trouble the waters with your feet, and you make foul their rivers.

Fils de l'homme, Prononce une complainte sur Pharaon, roi d'Égypte! Tu lui diras: Tu ressemblais à un lionceau parmi les nations; Tu étais comme un crocodile dans les mers, Tu t'élançais dans tes fleuves, Tu troublais les eaux avec tes pieds, Tu agitais leurs flots.

3 T hus says the Lord God: I will therefore throw out My net over you with a host of many peoples, and they shall bring you up in My dragnet.

Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Éternel: J'étendrai sur toi mon rets, Dans une foule nombreuse de peuples, Et ils te tireront dans mon filet.

4 T hen I will leave you upon the shore; I will cast you on the open field and will cause all the birds of the heavens to settle upon you, and I will fill the beasts of the whole earth with you.

Je te laisserai à terre, Je te jetterai sur la face des champs; Je ferai reposer sur toi tous les oiseaux du ciel, Et je rassasierai de toi les bêtes de toute la terre.

5 A nd I will scatter your flesh upon the mountains and fill the valleys with your high heap of corpses and their worms.

Je mettrai ta chair sur les montagnes, Et je remplirai les vallées de tes débris;

6 I will also water with your flowing blood the land, even to the mountains, and the hollows and water channels shall be full of you.

J'arroserai de ton sang le pays où tu nages, Jusqu'aux montagnes, Et les ravins seront remplis de toi.

7 A nd when I have extinguished you, I will cover the heavens and make their stars dark; I will cover the sun with a cloud and the moon shall not give her light.

Quand je t'éteindrai, je voilerai les cieux Et j'obscurcirai leurs étoiles, Je couvrirai le soleil de nuages, Et la lune ne donnera plus sa lumière.

8 A ll the bright lights of the heavens I will make dark over you and set darkness upon your land, says the Lord God.

J'obscurcirai à cause de toi tous les luminaires des cieux, Et je répandrai les ténèbres sur ton pays, Dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel.

9 I will also trouble and vex the hearts of many peoples when I bring your breaking and trembling and destruction and carry you captive among the nations, into the countries which you have not known.

J'affligerai le coeur de beaucoup de peuples, Quand j'annoncerai ta ruine parmi les nations A des pays que tu ne connaissais pas.

10 I will make many peoples amazed and appalled at you, and their kings shall shudder and be horribly afraid because of you when I brandish My sword before them; they shall tremble every moment, every man for his own life, in the day of your downfall.

Je frapperai de stupeur beaucoup de peuples à cause de toi, Et leurs rois seront saisis d'épouvante à cause de toi, Quand j'agiterai mon épée devant leur face; Ils trembleront à tout instant chacun pour sa vie, Au jour de ta chute.

11 F or thus says the Lord God: The sword of the king of Babylon shall come upon you.

Car ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Éternel: L'épée du roi de Babylone fondra sur toi.

12 I will cause your multitude, your tumult, and your store to fall by the swords of the mighty—the most terrible among the nations are they all. And they shall bring to nothing the pomp and pride of Egypt, and all its multitude shall be destroyed.

Je ferai tomber ta multitude par l'épée de vaillants hommes, Tous les plus violents d'entre les peuples; Ils anéantiront l'orgueil de l'Égypte, Et toute sa multitude sera détruite.

13 I will destroy also all its beasts from beside many and great waters, and no foot of man shall trouble them any more, nor shall the hoofs of beasts trouble them.

Je ferai périr tout son bétail près des grandes eaux; Le pied de l'homme ne les troublera plus, Le sabot des animaux ne les troublera plus.

14 T hen will I make their waters sink down (subside, be quiet, and become clear); their rivers I will cause to run like oil, says the Lord God.

Alors je calmerai ses eaux, Et je ferai couler ses fleuves comme l'huile, Dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel

15 W hen I make the land of Egypt desolate, and the country is stripped and destitute of all that of which it was full when I smite all those who dwell in it, then will they know, understand, and realize that I am the Lord.

Quand je ferai du pays d'Égypte une solitude, Et que le pays sera dépouillé de tout ce qu'il contient, Quand je frapperai tous ceux qui l'habitent, Ils sauront que je suis l'Éternel.

16 T his is the lamentation with which they shall intone or chant the lament for her; the daughters of the nations shall chant their lament with it; over Egypt and over all her multitude, her tumult, and her wealth in every sphere shall they chant it, says the Lord God.

C'est là une complainte, et on la dira; Les filles des nations diront cette complainte; Elles la prononceront sur l'Égypte et sur toute sa multitude, Dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel.

17 I n the twelfth year, on the fifteenth day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

La douzième année, le quinzième jour du mois, la parole de l'Éternel me fut adressée, en ces mots:

18 S on of man, wail over the multitude of Egypt and cast them down, even her and the daughters of the famous and majestic nations, to the netherworld, with those who go down to the pit;

Fils de l'homme, Lamente-toi sur la multitude d'Égypte, et précipite-la, Elle et les filles des nations puissantes, Dans les profondeurs de la terre, Avec ceux qui descendent dans la fosse!

19 W hom do you surpass in beauty? Go down and be laid with the uncircumcised (the heathen).

Qui surpasses-tu en beauté? Descends, et couche-toi avec les incirconcis!

20 T hey shall fall in the midst of those who are slain by the sword; she is delivered to the sword; they draw her down, and all her multitudes.

Ils tomberont au milieu de ceux qui sont morts par l'épée. Le glaive est donné: Entraînez l'Égypte et toute sa multitude!

21 T he strong among the mighty shall speak of out of the midst of Sheol (the place of the dead, the netherworld) with those who helped him; they are gone down; they lie still, even the uncircumcised (the heathen) slain by the sword.

Les puissants héros lui adresseront la parole Au sein du séjour des morts, Avec ceux qui étaient ses soutiens. Ils sont descendus, ils sont couchés, les incirconcis, Tués par l'épée.

22 A ssyria is there and all her company; their graves are round about her, all of them slain, fallen by the sword,

Là est l'Assyrien, avec toute sa multitude, Et ses sépulcres sont autour de lui; Tous sont morts, sont tombés par l'épée.

23 W hose graves are set in the uttermost parts of the pit and whose company is round about her grave, all of them slain, fallen by the sword, who caused terror to spread in the land of the living.

Ses sépulcres sont dans les profondeurs de la fosse, Et sa multitude est autour de son sépulcre; Tous sont morts, sont tombés par l'épée; Eux qui répandaient la terreur dans le pays des vivants.

24 E lam is there and all her multitude round about her grave, all of them slain, fallen by the sword, who have gone down uncircumcised into the netherworld, who caused their terror to spread in the land of the living and have borne their shame with those who go down to the pit.

Là est Élam, avec toute sa multitude, Autour est son sépulcre; Tous sont morts, sont tombés par l'épée; Ils sont descendus incirconcis dans les profondeurs de la terre, Eux qui répandaient la terreur dans le pays des vivants, Et ils ont porté leur ignominie vers ceux qui descendent dans la fosse.

25 T hey have set her a bed (a sepulcher) among the slain with all her multitude—their graves round about her, all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword, for their terror had spread in the land of the living, and they henceforth bear their shame with those who go down to the pit; they are laid in the midst of the slain.

On a fait sa couche parmi les morts avec toute sa multitude, Et ses sépulcres sont autour de lui; Tous ces incirconcis sont morts par l'épée, Car ils répandaient la terreur dans le pays des vivants, Et ils ont porté leur ignominie vers ceux qui descendent dans la fosse; Ils ont été placés parmi les morts.

26 M eshech, Tubal, and all their multitude are there; their graves are round about, all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword, for they caused their terror to be spread in the land of the living.

Là sont Méschec, Tubal, et toute leur multitude, Et leurs sépulcres sont autour d'eux; Tous ces incirconcis sont morts par l'épée, Car ils répandaient la terreur dans le pays des vivants.

27 A nd they shall not lie with the mighty who have fallen of the uncircumcised who have gone down to Sheol (the place of the dead, the netherworld) with their weapons of war, whose swords were laid under their heads and whose iniquities are upon their bones, for they caused their terror to spread in the land of the living.

Ils ne sont pas couchés avec les héros, Ceux qui sont tombés d'entre les incirconcis; Ils sont descendus au séjour des morts avec leurs armes de guerre, Ils ont mis leurs épées sous leurs têtes, Et leurs iniquités ont été sur leurs ossements; Car ils étaient la terreur des héros dans le pays des vivants.

28 B ut you shall be broken in the midst of the uncircumcised and shall lie with those who are slain with the sword.

Toi aussi, tu seras brisé au milieu des incirconcis; Tu seras couché avec ceux qui sont morts par l'épée.

29 E dom is there, her kings and all her princes, who for all their might are laid with those who were slain by the sword; they shall lie with the uncircumcised (the heathen) and with those who go down to the pit.

Là sont Édom, ses rois et tous ses princes, Qui, malgré leur vaillance, ont été placés Avec ceux qui sont morts par l'épée; Ils sont couchés avec les incirconcis, Avec ceux qui descendent dans la fosse.

30 T he princes of the north are there, all of them, and all the Sidonians, who have gone down with the slain; for all the terror which they caused by their might they are put to shame, and they lie uncircumcised with those who are slain by the sword and henceforth bear their shame with those who go down to the pit.

Là sont tous les princes du septentrion, et tous les Sidoniens, Qui sont descendus vers les morts, Confus, malgré la terreur qu'inspirait leur vaillance; Ces incirconcis sont couchés avec ceux qui sont morts par l'épée, Et ils ont porté leur ignominie vers ceux qui descendent dans la fosse.

31 W hen Pharaoh sees them, he will comfort himself for all his multitude—even Pharaoh and all his army, slain by the sword, says the Lord God.

Pharaon les verra, Et il se consolera au sujet de toute sa multitude, Des siens qui sont morts par l'épée et de toute son armée, Dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel.

32 F or I have put his and My terror in the land of the living, and he shall be laid in the midst of the uncircumcised (the heathen) with those slain by the sword, even Pharaoh and all his multitude, says the Lord God.

Car je répandrai ma terreur dans le pays des vivants; Et ils seront couchés au milieu des incirconcis, Avec ceux qui sont morts par l'épée, Pharaon et toute sa multitude, Dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel.
