1 T he burden or oracle (the thing to be lifted up) of the word of the Lord is against the land of Hadrach, and Damascus shall be its resting place, for the Lord has an eye upon mankind as upon all the tribes of Israel,

Elle s'arrête aussi sur Hamath, à la frontière de Damas, Sur Tyr et Sidon, malgré toute leur sagesse.

3 A nd Tyre has built herself a stronghold, and heaped up silver like dust and fine gold like the mire of the streets.

Tyr s'est bâti une forteresse; Elle a amassé l'argent comme la poussière, Et l'or comme la boue des rues.

4 B ehold, the Lord will cast her out and dispossess her; He will smite her power in the sea and into it and shall be devoured by fire.

Voici, le Seigneur s'en emparera, Il précipitera sa puissance dans la mer, Et elle sera consumée par le feu.

5 s hall see it and fear; Ashkelon, Gaza also, and be sorely pained, and Ekron, for her confidence and expectation shall be put to shame, and a king shall perish from Gaza, and Ashkelon shall not be inhabited.

Askalon le verra, et elle sera dans la crainte; Gaza aussi, et un violent tremblement la saisira; Ékron aussi, car son espoir sera confondu. Le roi disparaîtra de Gaza, Et Askalon ne sera plus habitée.

6 A nd a mongrel people shall dwell in Ashdod, and I will put an end to the pride of the Philistines.

L'étranger s'établira dans Asdod, Et j'abattrai l'orgueil des Philistins.

7 A nd I will take out of mouths and from between their teeth the abominable idolatrous sacrifices eaten with the blood. And they too shall remain and be a remnant for our God, and they shall be like chieftains (the head over a thousand) in Judah, and Ekron shall be like one of the Jebusites.

J'ôterai le sang de sa bouche, Et les abominations d'entre ses dents; Lui aussi restera pour notre Dieu; Il sera comme un chef en Juda, Et Ékron sera comme les Jébusiens.

8 T hen I will encamp about My house as a guard or a garrison so that none shall march back and forth, and no oppressor or demanding collector shall again overrun them, for now My eyes are upon them.

Je camperai autour de ma maison pour la défendre contre une armée, Contre les allants et les venants, Et l'oppresseurs ne passera plus près d'eux; Car maintenant mes yeux sont fixés sur elle.

9 R ejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O Daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King comes to you; He is just and having salvation, patient, meek, lowly, and riding on a donkey, upon a colt, the foal of a donkey.

Sois transportée d'allégresse, fille de Sion! Pousse des cris de joie, fille de Jérusalem! Voici, ton roi vient à toi; Il est juste et victorieux, Il est humble et monté sur un âne, Sur un âne, le petit d'une ânesse.

Je détruirai les chars d'Éphraïm, Et les chevaux de Jérusalem; Et les arcs de guerre seront anéantis. Il annoncera la paix aux nations, Et il dominera d'une mer à l'autre, Depuis le fleuve jusqu'aux extrémités de la terre.

11 A s for you also, because of and for the sake of the covenant blood, I have released and sent forth your imprisoned people out of the waterless pit.

Et pour toi, à cause de ton alliance scellée par le sang, Je retirerai tes captifs de la fosse où il n'y a pas d'eau.

12 R eturn to the stronghold, you prisoners of hope; even today do I declare that I will restore double your former prosperity to you.

Retournez à la forteresse, captifs pleins d'espérance! Aujourd'hui encore je le déclare, Je te rendrai le double.

13 F or I have bent Judah for Myself as My bow, filled the bow with Ephraim as My arrow, and will stir up your sons, O Zion, against your sons, O Greece, and will make you as the sword of a mighty man.

Car je bande Juda comme un arc, Je m'arme d'Éphraïm comme d'un arc, Et je soulèverai tes enfants, ô Sion, Contre tes enfants, ô Javan! Je te rendrai pareille à l'épée d'un vaillant homme.

14 A nd the Lord shall be seen over them and His arrow shall go forth as the lightning, and the Lord God will blow the trumpet and will go forth in the windstorms of the south.

L'Éternel au-dessus d'eux apparaîtra, Et sa flèche partira comme l'éclair; Le Seigneur, l'Éternel, sonnera de la trompette, Il s'avancera dans l'ouragan du midi.

15 T he Lord of hosts shall defend and protect them; and they shall devour and they shall tread on as on slingstones, and they shall drink and be noisy and turbulent as from wine and become full like bowls, like the corners of the altar.

L'Éternel des armées les protégera; Ils dévoreront, ils vaincront les pierres de la fronde; Ils boiront, ils seront bruyants comme pris de vin; Ils seront pleins comme une coupe, Comme les coins de l'autel.

16 A nd the Lord their God will save them on that day as the flock of His people, for they shall be as the jewels of a crown, lifted high over and shining glitteringly upon His land.

L'Éternel, leur Dieu, les sauvera en ce jour-là, Comme le troupeau de son peuple; Car ils sont les pierres d'un diadème, Qui brilleront dans son pays.

17 F or how great is God’s goodness and how great is His beauty! And how great goodliness and beauty! Grain shall make the young men thrive and fresh wine the maidens.

Oh! quelle prospérité pour eux! quelle beauté! Le froment fera croître les jeunes hommes, Et le moût les jeunes filles.
