1 Z edekiah was twenty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Hamutal daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.

Sédécias avait vingt et un ans lorsqu'il devint roi, et il régna onze ans à Jérusalem. Sa mère s'appelait Hamuthal, fille de Jérémie, de Libna.

2 A nd he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, according to all that Jehoiakim had done.

Il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Éternel, entièrement comme avait fait Jojakim.

3 F or all this came to pass in Jerusalem and Judah because of the anger of the Lord, and He cast them out from His presence. And Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.

Et cela arriva à cause de la colère de l'Éternel contre Jérusalem et contre Juda, qu'il voulait rejeter de devant sa face. Et Sédécias se révolta contre le roi de Babylone.

4 A nd in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month, Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon came, he and all his army, against Jerusalem; and they pitched against it and built moveable towers and siege mounds against it round about.

La neuvième année du règne de Sédécias, le dixième jour du dixième mois, Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, vint avec toute son armée contre Jérusalem; ils campèrent devant elle, et élevèrent des retranchements tout autour.

5 S o the city was besieged until the eleventh year of King Zedekiah.

La ville fut assiégée jusqu'à la onzième année du roi Sédécias.

6 A nd in the fourth month, on the ninth day of the month, the famine was so severe in the city that there was no bread for the people of the land.

Le neuvième jour du quatrième mois, la famine était forte dans la ville, et il n'y avait pas de pain pour le peuple du pays.

7 T hen the city was broken through, so that all the men of war might flee, and they went forth out of the city by night by way of the gate between the two walls by the king’s garden, though the Chaldeans were round about the city. And they by way of the Arabah (the Jordan Valley).

Alors la brèche fut faite à la ville; et tous les gens de guerre s'enfuirent, et sortirent de la ville pendant la nuit par le chemin de la porte entre les deux murs près du jardin du roi, tandis que les Chaldéens environnaient la ville. Les fuyards prirent le chemin de la plaine.

8 B ut the army of the Chaldeans pursued the king and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho; and all his army was scattered from him.

Mais l'armée des Chaldéens poursuivit le roi, et ils atteignirent Sédécias dans les plaines de Jéricho; et toute son armée se dispersa loin de lui.

9 T hen they seized the king and brought him up to the king of Babylon at Riblah in the land of Hamath, where he pronounced sentence upon him.

Ils saisirent le roi, et le firent monter vers le roi de Babylone à Ribla, dans le pays de Hamath; et il prononça contre lui une sentence.

10 A nd the king of Babylon slew the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes; he slew also all the princes of Judah at Riblah.

Le roi de Babylone fit égorger les fils de Sédécias en sa présence; il fit aussi égorger tous les chefs de Juda à Ribla.

11 T hen he put out the eyes of Zedekiah; and the king of Babylon bound him with shackles and carried him to Babylon and put him in prison till the day of his death.

Puis il fit crever les yeux à Sédécias, et le fit lier avec des chaînes d'airain; le roi de Babylone l'emmena à Babylone, et il le tint en prison jusqu'au jour de sa mort.

12 N ow in the fifth month, on the tenth day of the month, which was the nineteenth year of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, there came to Jerusalem Nebuzaradan captain of the guard, who stood and served before the king of Babylon.

Le dixième jour du cinquième mois, -c'était la dix-neuvième année du règne de Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, -Nebuzaradan, chef des gardes, au service du roi de Babylone, vint à Jérusalem.

13 A nd he burned the house of the Lord and the king’s house and all the houses of Jerusalem; every great house he consumed with fire.

Il brûla la maison de l'Éternel, la maison du roi, et toutes les maisons de Jérusalem; il livra au feu toutes les maisons de quelque importance.

14 A nd all the army of the Chaldeans who were with the captain of the guard broke down all the walls round about Jerusalem.

Toute l'armée des Chaldéens, qui était avec le chef des gardes, démolit toutes les murailles formant l'enceinte de Jérusalem.

15 T hen Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried away captive some of the poorest of the people and those who were left in the city, along with those who went out to the king of Babylon and the remnant of the multitude.

Nebuzaradan, chef des gardes, emmena captifs une partie des plus pauvres du peuple, ceux du peuple qui étaient demeurés dans la ville, ceux qui s'étaient rendus au roi de Babylone, et le reste de la multitude.

16 B ut Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard left some of the poorest of the land to be vinedressers and tillers of the soil.

Cependant Nebuzaradan, chef des gardes, laissa comme vignerons et comme laboureurs quelques-uns des plus pauvres du pays.

17 A lso the pillars of bronze that belonged to the house of the Lord, and the bronze bases or pedestals and the bronze Sea or huge laver that were in the house of the Lord, the Chaldeans broke into pieces and carried all the bronze of them to Babylon.

Les Chaldéens brisèrent les colonnes d'airain qui étaient dans la maison de l'Éternel, les bases, la mer d'airain qui était dans la maison de l'Éternel, et ils en emportèrent tout l'airain à Babylone.

18 T he pots also and the shovels and the snuffers and the bowls and the spoons and all the vessels of bronze used in the temple service they took away.

Ils prirent les cendriers, les pelles, les couteaux, les coupes, les tasses, et tous les ustensiles d'airain avec lesquels on faisait le service.

19 A lso the small bowls and the firepans and the basins and the pots and the lampstands and the incense cups and the bowls for the drink offerings—whatever was of gold the captain of the guard took away as gold, and whatever was of silver as silver.

Le chef des gardes prit encore les bassins, les brasiers, les coupes, les cendriers, les chandeliers, les tasses et les calices, ce qui était d'or et ce qui était d'argent.

20 T he two pillars, one Sea or huge laver, and twelve bronze bulls or oxen under the Sea, which King Solomon had made in the house of the Lord—the bronze of all these things was beyond weighing.

Les deux colonnes, la mer, et les douze boeufs d'airain qui servaient de base, et que le roi Salomon avait faits pour la maison de l'Éternel, tous ces ustensiles d'airain avaient un poids inconnu.

21 C oncerning the pillars, the height of the one pillar was eighteen cubits (twenty-seven feet), and an ornamental molding of twelve cubits (eighteen feet) went around its circumference; it was four fingers thick, and it was hollow.

La hauteur de l'une des colonnes était de dix-huit coudées, et un cordon de douze coudées l'entourait; elle était creuse, et son épaisseur avait quatre doigts;

22 A n upper part or capital of bronze was on top of it. The height of one capital was five cubits (seven and one-half feet), with a network and pomegranates around it, all of bronze. The second pillar also, with its pomegranates, was similar to these.

il y avait au-dessus un chapiteau d'airain, et la hauteur d'un chapiteau était de cinq coudées; autour du chapiteau il y avait un treillis et des grenades, le tout d'airain; il en était de même pour la seconde colonne avec des grenades.

23 A nd there were ninety-six pomegranates on the sides; and all the pomegranates upon the network were a hundred round about.

Il y avait quatre-vingt-seize grenades de chaque côté, et toutes les grenades autour du treillis étaient au nombre de cent.

24 A nd the captain of the guard took Seraiah the chief priest and Zephaniah the second priest and the three keepers of the door.

Le chef des gardes prit Seraja, le souverain sacrificateur, Sophonie, le second sacrificateur, et les trois gardiens du seuil.

25 H e took also out of the city a court officer who had been overseer of the soldiers, and seven men of them who were next to the king and saw his face, who were found in the city, and the scribe of the prince or captain of the army who mustered the people of the land, and sixty men of the people of the land who were found in the midst of the city.

Et dans la ville il prit un eunuque qui avait sous son commandement les gens de guerre, sept hommes qui faisaient partie des conseillers du roi et qui furent trouvés dans la ville, le secrétaire du chef de l'armée qui était chargé d'enrôler le peuple du pays, et soixante hommes du peuple du pays qui se trouvèrent dans la ville.

26 A nd Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard took them and brought them to the king of Babylon at Riblah.

Nebuzaradan, chef des gardes, les prit, et les conduisit vers le roi de Babylone à Ribla.

27 A nd the king of Babylon smote them and put them to death at Riblah in the land of Hamath. Thus Judah was carried away captive out of his own land.

Le roi de Babylone les frappa et les fit mourir à Ribla, dans le pays de Hamath. Ainsi Juda fut emmené captif loin de son pays.

28 T his is the number of people whom Nebuchadrezzar carried away captive: in the seventh year, 3, 023 Jews;

Voici le peuple que Nebucadnetsar emmena en captivité: la septième année, trois mille vingt-trois Juifs;

29 I n the eighteenth year of Nebuchadrezzar, he carried away captive from Jerusalem 832 persons;

la dix-huitième année de Nebucadnetsar, il emmena de Jérusalem huit cent trente-deux personnes;

30 I n the twenty-third year of Nebuchadrezzar, Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried away captive of the Jews 745 persons. All the persons were 4, 600.

la vingt-troisième année de Nebucadnetsar, Nebuzaradan, chef des gardes, emmena sept cent quarante-cinq Juifs; en tout quatre mille six cents personnes.

31 A nd in the thirty-seventh year of the captivity of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, on the twenty-fifth day of the month, Evil-merodach king of Babylon in the first year of his reign lifted up the head of Jehoiachin king of Judah and brought him out of prison.

La trente-septième année de la captivité de Jojakin, roi de Juda, le vingt-cinquième jour du douzième mois, Évil Merodac, roi de Babylone, dans la première année de son règne, releva la tête de Jojakin, roi de Juda, et le fit sortir de prison.

32 H e spoke kindly to him and gave him a seat above the seats of the kings who were with him in Babylon,

Il lui parla avec bonté, et il mit son trône au-dessus du trône des rois qui étaient avec lui à Babylone.

33 J ehoiachin put off his prison garments, and he dined regularly at the king’s table all the days of his life.

Il lui fit changer ses vêtements de prison, et Jojakin mangea toujours à sa table tout le temps de sa vie.

34 A nd his allowance, a continual one, was given him by the king of Babylon, a portion according to his requirements until the day of his death, all the days of his life.

Le roi de Babylone pourvut constamment à son entretien journalier jusqu'au jour de sa mort, tout le temps de sa vie.
