1 M y son, if you will receive my words and treasure up my commandments within you,

Mon fils, si tu reçois mes paroles, Et si tu gardes avec toi mes préceptes,

2 M aking your ear attentive to skillful and godly Wisdom and inclining and directing your heart and mind to understanding;

Si tu rends ton oreille attentive à la sagesse, Et si tu inclines ton coeur à l'intelligence;

3 Y es, if you cry out for insight and raise your voice for understanding,

Oui, si tu appelles la sagesse, Et si tu élèves ta voix vers l'intelligence,

4 I f you seek as for silver and search for skillful and godly Wisdom as for hidden treasures,

Si tu la cherches comme l'argent, Si tu la poursuis comme un trésor,

5 T hen you will understand the reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.

Alors tu comprendras la crainte de l'Éternel, Et tu trouveras la connaissance de Dieu.

6 F or the Lord gives skillful and godly Wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.

Car l'Éternel donne la sagesse; De sa bouche sortent la connaissance et l'intelligence;

7 H e hides away sound and godly Wisdom and stores it for the righteous (those who are upright and in right standing with Him); He is a shield to those who walk uprightly and in integrity,

Il tient en réserve le salut pour les hommes droits, Un bouclier pour ceux qui marchent dans l'intégrité,

8 T hat He may guard the paths of justice; yes, He preserves the way of His saints.

En protégeant les sentiers de la justice Et en gardant la voie de ses fidèles.

9 T hen you will understand righteousness, justice, and fair dealing; yes, you will understand every good path.

Alors tu comprendras la justice, l'équité, La droiture, toutes les routes qui mènent au bien.

10 F or skillful and godly Wisdom shall enter into your heart, and knowledge shall be pleasant to you.

Car la sagesse viendra dans ton coeur, Et la connaissance fera les délices de ton âme;

11 D iscretion shall watch over you, understanding shall keep you,

La réflexion veillera sur toi, L'intelligence te gardera,

12 T o deliver you from the way of evil and the evil men, from men who speak perverse things and are liars,

Pour te délivrer de la voie du mal, De l'homme qui tient des discours pervers,

13 M en who forsake the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness,

De ceux qui abandonnent les sentiers de la droiture Afin de marcher dans des chemins ténébreux,

14 W ho rejoice to do evil and delight in the perverseness of evil,

Qui trouvent de la jouissance à faire le mal, Qui mettent leur plaisir dans la perversité,

15 W ho are crooked in their ways, wayward and devious in their paths.

Qui suivent des sentiers détournés, Et qui prennent des routes tortueuses;

16 t o deliver you from the alien woman, from the outsider with her flattering words,

Pour te délivrer de la femme étrangère, De l'étrangère qui emploie des paroles doucereuses,

17 W ho forsakes the husband and guide of her youth and forgets the covenant of her God.

Qui abandonne l'ami de sa jeunesse, Et qui oublie l'alliance de son Dieu;

18 F or her house sinks down to death and her paths to the spirits.

Car sa maison penche vers la mort, Et sa route mène chez les morts:

19 N one who go to her return again, neither do they attain or regain the paths of life.

Aucun de ceux qui vont à elle ne revient, Et ne retrouve les sentiers de la vie.

20 S o may you walk in the way of good men, and keep to the paths of the righteous (the upright, in right standing with God).

Tu marcheras ainsi dans la voie des gens de bien, Tu garderas les sentiers des justes.

21 F or the upright shall dwell in the land, and the men of integrity, blameless and complete, shall remain in it;

Car les hommes droits habiteront le pays, Les hommes intègres y resteront;

22 B ut the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the treacherous shall be rooted out of it.

Mais les méchants seront retranchés du pays, Les infidèles en seront arrachés.
