Jacques, serviteur de Dieu et du Seigneur Jésus Christ, aux douze tribus qui sont dans la dispersion, salut!

2 C onsider it wholly joyful, my brethren, whenever you are enveloped in or encounter trials of any sort or fall into various temptations.

Mes frères, regardez comme un sujet de joie complète les diverses épreuves auxquelles vous pouvez être exposés,

3 B e assured and understand that the trial and proving of your faith bring out endurance and steadfastness and patience.

sachant que l'épreuve de votre foi produit la patience.

4 B ut let endurance and steadfastness and patience have full play and do a thorough work, so that you may be perfectly and fully developed, lacking in nothing.

Mais il faut que la patience accomplisse parfaitement son oeuvre, afin que vous soyez parfaits et accomplis, sans faillir en rien.

5 I f any of you is deficient in wisdom, let him ask of the giving God to everyone liberally and ungrudgingly, without reproaching or faultfinding, and it will be given him.

Si quelqu'un d'entre vous manque de sagesse, qu'il l'a demande à Dieu, qui donne à tous simplement et sans reproche, et elle lui sera donnée.

6 O nly it must be in faith that he asks with no wavering (no hesitating, no doubting). For the one who wavers (hesitates, doubts) is like the billowing surge out at sea that is blown hither and thither and tossed by the wind.

Mais qu'il l'a demande avec foi, sans douter; car celui qui doute est semblable au flot de la mer, agité par le vent et poussé de côté et d'autre.

7 F or truly, let not such a person imagine that he will receive anything from the Lord,

Qu'un tel homme ne s'imagine pas qu'il recevra quelque chose du Seigneur:

8 a man of two minds (hesitating, dubious, irresolute), unstable and unreliable and uncertain about everything.

c'est un homme irrésolu, inconstant dans toutes ses voies.

9 L et the brother in humble circumstances glory in his elevation,

Que le frère de condition humble se glorifie de son élévation.

10 A nd the rich in being humbled, because like the flower of the grass he will pass away.

Que le riche, au contraire, se glorifie de son humiliation; car il passera comme la fleur de l'herbe.

11 F or the sun comes up with a scorching heat and parches the grass; its flower falls off and its beauty fades away. Even so will the rich man wither and die in the midst of his pursuits.

Le soleil s'est levé avec sa chaleur ardente, il a desséché l'herbe, sa fleur est tombée, et la beauté de son aspect a disparu: ainsi le riche se flétrira dans ses entreprises.

12 B lessed (happy, to be envied) is the man who is patient under trial and stands up under temptation, for when he has stood the test and been approved, he will receive crown of life which God has promised to those who love Him.

Heureux l'homme qui supporte patiemment la tentation; car, après avoir été éprouvé, il recevra la couronne de vie, que le Seigneur a promise à ceux qui l'aiment.

13 L et no one say when he is tempted, I am tempted from God; for God is incapable of being tempted by evil and He Himself tempts no one.

Que personne, lorsqu'il est tenté, ne dise: C'est Dieu qui me tente. Car Dieu ne peut être tenté par le mal, et il ne tente lui-même personne.

14 B ut every person is tempted when he is drawn away, enticed and baited by his own evil desire (lust, passions).

Mais chacun est tenté quand il est attiré et amorcé par sa propre convoitise.

15 T hen the evil desire, when it has conceived, gives birth to sin, and sin, when it is fully matured, brings forth death.

Puis la convoitise, lorsqu'elle a conçu, enfante le péché; et le péché, étant consommé, produit la mort.

16 D o not be misled, my beloved brethren.

Nous vous y trompez pas, mes frères bien-aimés:

17 E very good gift and every perfect ( free, large, full) gift is from above; it comes down from the Father of all light, in Whom there can be no variation or shadow cast by His turning.

toute grâce excellente et tout don parfait descendent d'en haut, du Père des lumières, chez lequel il n'y a ni changement ni ombre de variation.

18 A nd it was of His own will that He gave us birth by Word of Truth, so that we should be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures.

Il nous a engendrés selon sa volonté, par la parole de vérité, afin que nous soyons en quelque sorte les prémices de ses créatures.

19 U nderstand, my beloved brethren. Let every man be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to take offense and to get angry.

Sachez-le, mes frères bien-aimés. Ainsi, que tout homme soit prompt à écouter, lent à parler, lent à se mettre en colère;

20 F or man’s anger does not promote the righteousness God.

car la colère de l'homme n'accomplit pas la justice de Dieu.

21 S o get rid of all uncleanness and the rampant outgrowth of wickedness, and in a humble (gentle, modest) spirit receive and welcome the Word which implanted and rooted contains the power to save your souls.

C'est pourquoi, rejetant toute souillure et tout excès de malice, recevez avec douceur la parole qui a été planté en vous, et qui peut sauver vos âmes.

22 B ut be doers of the Word, and not merely listeners to it, betraying yourselves.

Mettez en pratique la parole, et ne vous bornez pas à l'écouter, en vous trompant vous-mêmes par de faux raisonnements.

23 F or if anyone only listens to the Word without obeying it and being a doer of it, he is like a man who looks carefully at his natural face in a mirror;

Car, si quelqu'un écoute la parole et ne la met pas en pratique, il est semblable à un homme qui regarde dans un miroir son visage naturel,

24 F or he thoughtfully observes himself, and then goes off and promptly forgets what he was like.

et qui, après s'être regardé, s'en va, et oublie aussitôt quel il était.

25 B ut he who looks carefully into the faultless law, the of liberty, and is faithful to it and perseveres in looking into it, being not a heedless listener who forgets but an active doer, he shall be blessed in his doing (his life of obedience).

Mais celui qui aura plongé les regards dans la loi parfaite, la loi de la liberté, et qui aura persévéré, n'étant pas un auditeur oublieux, mais se mettant à l'oeuvre, celui-là sera heureux dans son activité.

26 I f anyone thinks himself to be religious (piously observant of the external duties of his faith) and does not bridle his tongue but deludes his own heart, this person’s religious service is worthless (futile, barren).

Si quelqu'un croit être religieux, sans tenir sa langue en bride, mais en trompant son coeur, la religion de cet homme est vaine.

27 E xternal religious worship '> religion as it is expressed in outward acts] that is pure and unblemished in the sight of God the Father is this: to visit and help and care for the orphans and widows in their affliction and need, and to keep oneself unspotted and uncontaminated from the world.

La religion pure et sans tache, devant Dieu notre Père, consiste à visiter les orphelins et les veuves dans leurs afflictions, et à se préserver des souillures du monde.
