1 A fter this, Jesus went to the farther side of the Sea of Galilee—that is, the Sea of Tiberias.

Après cela, Jésus s'en alla de l'autre côté de la mer de Galilée, de Tibériade.

2 A nd a great crowd was following Him because they had seen the signs (miracles) which He performed upon those who were sick.

Une grande foule le suivait, parce qu'elle voyait les miracles qu'il opérait sur les malades.

3 A nd Jesus walked up the mountainside and sat down there with His disciples.

Jésus monta sur la montagne, et là il s'assit avec ses disciples.

4 N ow the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was approaching.

Or, la Pâque était proche, la fête des Juifs.

5 J esus looked up then, and seeing that a vast multitude was coming toward Him, He said to Philip, Where are we to buy bread, so that all these people may eat?

Ayant levé les yeux, et voyant qu'une grande foule venait à lui, Jésus dit à Philippe: Où achèterons-nous des pains, pour que ces gens aient à manger?

6 B ut He said this to prove (test) him, for He well knew what He was about to do.

Il disait cela pour l'éprouver, car il savait ce qu'il allait faire.

7 P hilip answered Him, Two hundred pennies’ (forty dollars) worth of bread is not enough that everyone may receive even a little.

Philippe lui répondit: Les pains qu'on aurait pour deux cents deniers ne suffiraient pas pour que chacun en reçût un peu.

8 A nother of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to Him,

Un de ses disciples, André, frère de Simon Pierre, lui dit:

9 T here is a little boy here, who has five barley loaves, and two small fish; but what are they among so many people?

Il y a ici un jeune garçon qui a cinq pains d'orge et deux poissons; mais qu'est-ce que cela pour tant de gens?

10 J esus said, Make all the people recline (sit down). Now the ground (a pasture) was covered with thick grass at the spot, so the men threw themselves down, about 5, 000 in number.

Jésus dit: Faites-les asseoir. Il y avait dans ce lieu beaucoup d'herbe. Ils s'assirent donc, au nombre d'environ cinq mille hommes.

11 J esus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks, He distributed to the disciples and the disciples to the reclining people; so also with the fish, as much as they wanted.

Jésus prit les pains, rendit grâces, et les distribua à ceux qui étaient assis; il leur donna de même des poissons, autant qu'ils en voulurent.

12 W hen they had all had enough, He said to His disciples, Gather up now the fragments (the broken pieces that are left over), so that nothing may be lost and wasted.

Lorsqu'ils furent rassasiés, il dit à ses disciples: Ramassez les morceaux qui restent, afin que rien ne se perde.

13 S o accordingly they gathered them up, and they filled twelve '> small hand] baskets with fragments left over by those who had eaten from the five barley loaves.

Ils les ramassèrent donc, et ils remplirent douze paniers avec les morceaux qui restèrent des cinq pains d'orge, après que tous eurent mangé.

14 W hen the people saw the sign (miracle) that Jesus had performed, they began saying, Surely and beyond a doubt this is the Prophet Who is to come into the world!

Ces gens, ayant vu le miracle que Jésus avait fait, disaient: Celui-ci est vraiment le prophète qui doit venir dans le monde.

15 T hen Jesus, knowing that they meant to come and seize Him that they might make Him king, withdrew again to the hillside by Himself alone.

Et Jésus, sachant qu'ils allaient venir l'enlever pour le faire roi, se retira de nouveau sur la montagne, lui seul.

16 W hen evening came, His disciples went down to the sea,

Quand le soir fut venu, ses disciples descendirent au bord de la mer.

17 A nd they took a boat and were going across the sea to Capernaum. It was now dark, and still Jesus had not come back to them.

Étant montés dans une barque, ils traversaient la mer pour se rendre à Capernaüm. Il faisait déjà nuit, et Jésus ne les avait pas encore rejoints.

18 M eanwhile, the sea was getting rough and rising high because of a great and violent wind that was blowing.

Il soufflait un grand vent, et la mer était agitée.

19 w hen they had rowed three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and approaching the boat. And they were afraid (terrified).

Après avoir ramé environ vingt-cinq ou trente stades, ils virent Jésus marchant sur la mer et s'approchant de la barque. Et ils eurent peur.

20 B ut Jesus said to them, It is I; be not afraid!

Mais Jésus leur dit: C'est moi; n'ayez pas peur!

21 T hen they were quite willing and glad for Him to come into the boat. And now the boat went at once to the land they had steered toward.

Ils voulaient donc le prendre dans la barque, et aussitôt la barque aborda au lieu où ils allaient.

22 T he next day the crowd standing on the other side of the sea realized that there had been only one small boat there, and that Jesus had not gone into it with His disciples, but that His disciples had gone away by themselves.

La foule qui était restée de l'autre côté de la mer avait remarqué qu'il ne se trouvait là qu'une seule barque, et que Jésus n'était pas monté dans cette barque avec ses disciples, mais qu'ils étaient partis seuls.

23 B ut now some other boats from Tiberias had come in near the place where they ate the bread after the Lord had given thanks.

Le lendemain, comme d'autres barques étaient arrivées de Tibériade près du lieu où ils avaient mangé le pain après que le Seigneur eut rendu grâces,

24 S o the people, finding that neither Jesus nor His disciples were there, themselves got into the small boats and came to Capernaum looking for Jesus.

les gens de la foule, ayant vu que ni Jésus ni ses disciples n'étaient là, montèrent eux-mêmes dans ces barques et allèrent à Capernaüm à la recherche de Jésus.

25 A nd when they found Him on the other side of the lake, they said to Him, Rabbi! When did You come here?

Et l'ayant trouvé au delà de la mer, ils lui dirent: Rabbi, quand es-tu venu ici?

26 J esus answered them, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, you have been searching for Me, not because you saw the miracles and signs but because you were fed with the loaves and were filled and satisfied.

Jésus leur répondit: En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, vous me cherchez, non parce que vous avez vu des miracles, mais parce que vous avez mangé des pains et que vous avez été rassasiés.

27 S top toiling and doing and producing for the food that perishes and decomposes, but strive and work and produce rather for the food which endures unto life eternal; the Son of Man will give (furnish) you that, for God the Father has authorized and certified Him and put His seal of endorsement upon Him.

Travaillez, non pour la nourriture qui périt, mais pour celle qui subsiste pour la vie éternelle, et que le Fils de l'homme vous donnera; car c'est lui que le Père, que Dieu a marqué de son sceau.

28 T hey then said, What are we to do, that we may be working the works of God?

Ils lui dirent: Que devons-nous faire, pour faire les oeuvres de Dieu?

29 J esus replied, This is the work (service) that God asks of you: that you believe in the One Whom He has sent.

Jésus leur répondit: L'oeuvre de Dieu, c'est que vous croyiez en celui qu'il a envoyé.

30 T herefore they said to Him, What sign (miracle, wonderwork) will You perform then, so that we may see it and believe and rely on and adhere to You? What work have You ?

Quel miracle fais-tu donc, lui dirent-ils, afin que nous le voyions, et que nous croyions en toi? Que fais-tu?

31 O ur forefathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as the Scripture says, He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.

Nos pères ont mangé la manne dans le désert, selon ce qui est écrit: Il leur donna le pain du ciel à manger.

32 J esus then said to them, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, Moses did not give you the Bread from heaven, but it is My Father Who gives you the true heavenly Bread.

Jésus leur dit: En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, Moïse ne vous a pas donné le pain du ciel, mais mon Père vous donne le vrai pain du ciel;

33 F or the Bread of God is He Who comes down out of heaven and gives life to the world.

car le pain de Dieu, c'est celui qui descend du ciel et qui donne la vie au monde.

34 T hen they said to Him, Lord, give us this bread always (all the time)!

Ils lui dirent: Seigneur, donne-nous toujours ce pain.

35 J esus replied, I am the Bread of Life. He who comes to Me will never be hungry, and he who believes in and cleaves to and trusts in and relies on Me will never thirst any more (at any time).

Jésus leur dit: Je suis le pain de vie. Celui qui vient à moi n'aura jamais faim, et celui qui croit en moi n'aura jamais soif.

36 B ut I told you, although you have seen Me, still you do not believe and trust and have faith.

Mais, je vous l'ai dit, vous m'avez vu, et vous ne croyez point.

37 A ll whom My Father gives (entrusts) to Me will come to Me; and the one who comes to Me I will most certainly not cast out.

Tous ceux que le Père me donne viendront à moi, et je ne mettrai pas dehors celui qui vient à moi;

38 F or I have come down from heaven not to do My own will and purpose but to do the will and purpose of Him Who sent Me.

car je suis descendu du ciel pour faire, non ma volonté, mais la volonté de celui qui m'a envoyé.

39 A nd this is the will of Him Who sent Me, that I should not lose any of all that He has given Me, but that I should give new life and raise up at the last day.

Or, la volonté de celui qui m'a envoyé, c'est que je ne perde rien de tout ce qu'il m'a donné, mais que je le ressuscite au dernier jour.

40 F or this is My Father’s will and His purpose, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in and cleaves to and trusts in and relies on Him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.

La volonté de mon Père, c'est que quiconque voit le Fils et croit en lui ait la vie éternelle; et je le ressusciterai au dernier jour.

41 N ow the Jews murmured and found fault with and grumbled about Jesus because He said, I am the Bread that came down from heaven.

Les Juifs murmuraient à son sujet, parce qu'il avait dit: Je suis le pain qui est descendu du ciel.

42 T hey kept asking, Is not this Jesus, the Son of Joseph, Whose father and mother we know? How then can He say, I have come down from heaven?

Et ils disaient: N'est-ce pas là Jésus, le fils de Joseph, celui dont nous connaissons le père et la mère? Comment donc dit-il: Je suis descendu du ciel?

43 S o Jesus answered them, Stop grumbling and saying things against Me to one another.

Jésus leur répondit: Ne murmurez pas entre vous.

44 N o one is able to come to Me unless the Father Who sent Me attracts and draws him and gives him the desire to come to Me, and I will raise him up at the last day.

Nul ne peut venir à moi, si le Père qui m'a envoyé ne l'attire; et je le ressusciterai au dernier jour.

45 I t is written in the Prophets, And they shall all be taught of God. Everyone who has listened to and learned from the Father comes to Me—

Il est écrit dans les prophètes: Ils seront tous enseignés de Dieu. Ainsi quiconque a entendu le Père et a reçu son enseignement vient à moi.

46 W hich does not imply that anyone has seen the Father except He Who comes from God; He has seen the Father.

C'est que nul n'a vu le Père, sinon celui qui vient de Dieu; celui-là a vu le Père.

47 I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, he who believes in Me has (now possesses) eternal life.

En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, celui qui croit en moi a la vie éternelle.

48 I am the Bread of Life.

Je suis le pain de vie.

49 Y our forefathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died.

Vos pères ont mangé la manne dans le désert, et ils sont morts.

50 t his is the Bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it and never die.

C'est ici le pain qui descend du ciel, afin que celui qui en mange ne meure point.

51 I am this Living Bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this Bread, he will live forever; and also the Bread that I shall give for the life of the world is My flesh (body).

Je suis le pain vivant qui est descendu du ciel. Si quelqu'un mange de ce pain, il vivra éternellement; et le pain que je donnerai, c'est ma chair, que je donnerai pour la vie du monde.

52 T hen the Jews angrily contended with one another, saying, How is He able to give us His flesh to eat?

Là-dessus, les Juifs disputaient entre eux, disant: Comment peut-il nous donner sa chair à manger?

53 A nd Jesus said to them, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, you cannot have any life in you unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood.

Jésus leur dit: En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, si vous ne mangez la chair du Fils de l'homme, et si vous ne buvez son sang, vous n'avez point la vie en vous-mêmes.

54 H e who feeds on My flesh and drinks My blood has (possesses now) eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.

Celui qui mange ma chair et qui boit mon sang a la vie éternelle; et je le ressusciterai au dernier jour.

55 F or My flesh is true and genuine food, and My blood is true and genuine drink.

Car ma chair est vraiment une nourriture, et mon sang est vraiment un breuvage.

56 H e who feeds on My flesh and drinks My blood dwells continually in Me, and I in him.

Celui qui mange ma chair et qui boit mon sang demeure en moi, et je demeure en lui.

57 J ust as the living Father sent Me and I live by (through, because of) the Father, even so whoever continues to feed on Me shall live through and because of Me.

Comme le Père qui est vivant m'a envoyé, et que je vis par le Père, ainsi celui qui me mange vivra par moi.

58 T his is the Bread that came down from heaven. It is not like the manna which our forefathers ate, and yet died; he who takes this Bread for his food shall live forever.

C'est ici le pain qui est descendu du ciel. Il n'en est pas comme de vos pères qui ont mangé la manne et qui sont morts: celui qui mange ce pain vivra éternellement.

59 H e said these things in a synagogue while He was teaching at Capernaum.

Jésus dit ces choses dans la synagogue, enseignant à Capernaüm.

60 W hen His disciples heard this, many of them said, This is a hard and difficult and strange saying (an offensive and unbearable message). Who can stand to hear it?

Plusieurs de ses disciples, après l'avoir entendu, dirent: Cette parole est dure; qui peut l'écouter?

61 B ut Jesus, knowing within Himself that His disciples were complaining and protesting and grumbling about it, said to them: Is this a stumbling block and an offense to you?

Jésus, sachant en lui-même que ses disciples murmuraient à ce sujet, leur dit: Cela vous scandalise-t-il?

62 W hat then if you should see the Son of Man ascending to where He was before?

Et si vous voyez le Fils de l'homme monter où il était auparavant?...

63 I t is the Spirit Who gives life; the flesh conveys no benefit whatever. The words (truths) that I have been speaking to you are spirit and life.

C'est l'esprit qui vivifie; la chair ne sert de rien. Les paroles que je vous ai dites sont esprit et vie.

64 B ut some of you fail to believe and trust and have faith. For Jesus knew from the first who did not believe and had no faith and who would betray Him and be false to Him.

Mais il en est parmi vous quelques-uns qui ne croient point. Car Jésus savait dès le commencement qui étaient ceux qui ne croyaient point, et qui était celui qui le livrerait.

65 A nd He said, This is why I told you that no one can come to Me unless it is granted him by the Father.

Et il ajouta: C'est pourquoi je vous ai dit que nul ne peut venir à moi, si cela ne lui a été donné par le Père.

66 A fter this, many of His disciples drew back (returned to their old associations) and no longer accompanied Him.

Dès ce moment, plusieurs de ses disciples se retirèrent, et ils n'allaient plus avec lui.

67 J esus said to the Twelve, Will you also go away?

Jésus donc dit aux douze: Et vous, ne voulez-vous pas aussi vous en aller?

68 S imon Peter answered, Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words (the message) of eternal life.

Simon Pierre lui répondit: Seigneur, à qui irions-nous? Tu as les paroles de la vie éternelle.

69 A nd we have learned to believe and trust, and we have come to know that You are the Holy One of God, the Christ (the Anointed One), the Son of the living God.

Et nous avons cru et nous avons connu que tu es le Christ, le Saint de Dieu.

70 J esus answered them, Did I not choose you, the Twelve? And one of you is a devil (of the evil one and a false accuser).

Jésus leur répondit: N'est-ce pas moi qui vous ai choisis, vous les douze? Et l'un de vous est un démon!

71 H e was speaking of Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, for he was about to betray Him, he was one of the Twelve.

Il parlait de Judas Iscariot, fils de Simon; car c'était lui qui devait le livrer, lui, l'un des douze.
