1 H ear, my sons, the instruction of a father, and pay attention in order to gain and to know intelligent discernment, comprehension, and interpretation.

2 F or I give you good doctrine; do not forsake my teaching.

Car je vous donne de bons conseils: Ne rejetez pas mon enseignement.

3 W hen I was a son with my father, tender and the only son in the sight of my mother,

J'étais un fils pour mon père, Un fils tendre et unique auprès de ma mère.

4 H e taught me and said to me, Let your heart hold fast my words; keep my commandments and live.

Il m'instruisait alors, et il me disait: Que ton coeur retienne mes paroles; Observe mes préceptes, et tu vivras.

5 G et skillful and godly Wisdom, get understanding (discernment, comprehension, and interpretation); do not forget and do not turn back from the words of my mouth.

Acquiers la sagesse, acquiers l'intelligence; N'oublie pas les paroles de ma bouche, et ne t'en détourne pas.

6 F orsake not, and she will keep, defend, and protect you; love her, and she will guard you.

Ne l'abandonne pas, et elle te gardera; Aime-la, et elle te protégera.

7 T he beginning of Wisdom is: get Wisdom (skillful and godly Wisdom)! And with all you have gotten, get understanding (discernment, comprehension, and interpretation).

Voici le commencement de la sagesse: Acquiers la sagesse, Et avec tout ce que tu possèdes acquiers l'intelligence.

8 P rize Wisdom highly and exalt her, and she will exalt and promote you; she will bring you to honor when you embrace her.

Exalte-la, et elle t'élèvera; Elle fera ta gloire, si tu l'embrasses;

9 S he shall give to your head a wreath of gracefulness; a crown of beauty and glory will she deliver to you.

Elle mettra sur ta tête une couronne de grâce, Elle t'ornera d'un magnifique diadème.

10 H ear, O my son, and receive my sayings, and the years of your life shall be many.

Écoute, mon fils, et reçois mes paroles; Et les années de ta vie se multiplieront.

11 I have taught you in the way of skillful and godly Wisdom; I have led you in paths of uprightness.

Je te montre la voie de la sagesse, Je te conduis dans les sentiers de la droiture.

12 W hen you walk, your steps shall not be hampered; and when you run, you shall not stumble.

Si tu marches, ton pas ne sera point gêné; Et si tu cours, tu ne chancelleras point.

13 T ake firm hold of instruction, do not let go; guard her, for she is your life.

Retiens l'instruction, ne t'en dessaisis pas; Garde-la, car elle est ta vie.

14 E nter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.

N'entre pas dans le sentier des méchants, Et ne marche pas dans la voie des hommes mauvais.

15 A void it, do not go on it; turn from it and pass on.

Évite-la, n'y passe point; Détourne-t'en, et passe outre.

16 F or they cannot sleep unless they have caused trouble or vexation; their sleep is taken away unless they have caused someone to fall.

Car ils ne dormiraient pas s'ils n'avaient fait le mal, Le sommeil leur serait ravi s'ils n'avaient fait tomber personne;

17 F or they eat the bread of wickedness and drink the wine of violence.

Car c'est le pain de la méchanceté qu'ils mangent, C'est le vin de la violence qu'ils boivent.

18 B ut the path of the just and righteous is like the light of dawn, that shines more and more (brighter and clearer) until the perfect day.

Le sentier des justes est comme la lumière resplendissante, Dont l'éclat va croissant jusqu'au milieu du jour.

19 T he way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know over what they stumble.

La voie des méchants est comme les ténèbres; Ils n'aperçoivent pas ce qui les fera tomber.

20 M y son, attend to my words; consent and submit to my sayings.

Mon fils, sois attentif à mes paroles, Prête l'oreille à mes discours.

21 L et them not depart from your sight; keep them in the center of your heart.

Qu'ils ne s'éloignent pas de tes yeux; Garde-les dans le fond de ton coeur;

22 F or they are life to those who find them, healing and health to all their flesh.

Car c'est la vie pour ceux qui les trouvent, C'est la santé pour tout leur corps.

23 K eep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life.

Garde ton coeur plus que toute autre chose, Car de lui viennent les sources de la vie.

24 P ut away from you false and dishonest speech, and willful and contrary talk put far from you.

Écarte de ta bouche la fausseté, Éloigne de tes lèvres les détours.

25 L et your eyes look right on, and let your gaze be straight before you.

Que tes yeux regardent en face, Et que tes paupières se dirigent devant toi.

26 C onsider well the path of your feet, and let all your ways be established and ordered aright.

Considère le chemin par où tu passes, Et que toutes tes voies soient bien réglées;

27 T urn not aside to the right hand or to the left; remove your foot from evil.

N'incline ni à droite ni à gauche, Et détourne ton pied du mal.
