1 A nd the word of the Lord came to Jehu son of Hanani against Baasha, saying,

La parole de l'Éternel fut ainsi adressée à Jéhu, fils de Hanani, contre Baescha:

2 B ecause I exalted you out of the dust and made you leader over My people Israel, and you have walked in the way of Jeroboam and have made My people Israel sin, to provoke Me to anger with their sins,

Je t'ai élevé de la poussière, et je t'ai établi chef de mon peuple d'Israël; mais parce que tu as marché dans la voie de Jéroboam, et que tu as fait pécher mon peuple d'Israël, pour m'irriter par leurs péchés,

3 B ehold, I will utterly sweep away Baasha and his house, and will make your house like of Jeroboam son of Nebat.

voici, je vais balayer Baescha et sa maison, et je rendrai ta maison semblable à la maison de Jéroboam, fils de Nebath.

4 A ny of Baasha’s family who dies in the city the dogs shall eat, and any who dies in the field the birds of the heavens shall eat.

Celui de la maison de Baescha qui mourra dans la ville sera mangé par les chiens, et celui des siens qui mourra dans les champs sera mangé par les oiseaux du ciel.

5 N ow the rest of the acts of Baasha, what he did and his might, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?

Le reste des actions de Baescha, ce qu'il a fait, et ses exploits, cela n'est-il pas écrit dans le livre des Chroniques des rois d'Israël?

6 B aasha slept with his fathers and was buried in Tirzah. Elah his son reigned in his stead.

Baescha se coucha avec ses pères, et il fut enterré à Thirtsa. Et Éla, son fils, régna à sa place.

7 A lso the word of the Lord against Baasha and his house came through the prophet Jehu son of Hanani for all the evil that Baasha did in the sight of the Lord in provoking Him to anger with the work of his hands, in being like the house of Jeroboam, and also because he destroyed it.

La parole de l'Éternel s'était manifestée par le prophète Jéhu, fils de Hanani, contre Baescha et contre sa maison, soit à cause de tout le mal qu'il avait fait sous les yeux de l'Éternel, en l'irritant par l'oeuvre de ses mains et en devenant semblable à la maison de Jéroboam, soit parce qu'il avait frappé la maison de Jéroboam.

8 I n the twenty-sixth year of Asa king of Judah, Elah son of Baasha began his reign of two years over Israel in Tirzah.

La vingt-sixième année d'Asa, roi de Juda, Éla, fils de Baescha, régna sur Israël à Thirtsa. Il régna deux ans.

9 E lah’s servant Zimri, captain of half his chariots, conspired against Elah. He was in Tirzah, drinking himself drunk in the house of Arza, who was over the household in Tirzah.

Son serviteur Zimri, chef de la moitié des chars, conspira contre lui. Éla était à Thirtsa, buvant et s'enivrant dans la maison d'Artsa, chef de la maison du roi à Thirtsa.

10 Z imri came in and smote and killed him in the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, and reigned in his stead.

Zimri entra, le frappa et le tua, la vingt-septième année d'Asa, roi de Juda, et il régna à sa place.

11 W hen he began to reign, as soon as he sat on his throne, he killed all the household of Baasha; he left not one male of his kinsmen or his friends.

Lorsqu'il fut roi et qu'il fut assis sur son trône, il frappa toute la maison de Baescha, il ne laissa échapper personne qui lui appartînt, ni parent ni ami.

12 T hus Zimri destroyed all the house of Baasha, according to the word of the Lord which He spoke against Baasha through Jehu the prophet,

Zimri détruisit toute la maison de Baescha, selon la parole que l'Éternel avait dite contre Baescha par Jéhu, le prophète,

13 F or all the sins of Baasha and of Elah his son by which they sinned and made Israel sin, in provoking the Lord, the God of Israel, to anger with their idols.

à cause de tous les péchés que Baescha et Éla, son fils, avaient commis et qu'ils avaient fait commettre à Israël, irritant par leurs idoles l'Éternel, le Dieu d'Israël.

14 T he rest of the acts of Elah, and all he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?

Le reste des actions d'Éla, et tout ce qu'il a fait, cela n'est-il pas écrit dans le livre des Chroniques des rois d'Israël?

15 I n the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, Zimri reigned for seven days in Tirzah. The troops were encamped against Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines,

La vingt-septième année d'Asa, roi de Juda, Zimri régna sept jours à Thirtsa. Le peuple campait contre Guibbethon, qui appartenait aux Philistins.

16 A nd they heard the rumor, Zimri has conspired and slain the king! So all Israel made Omri, the commander of the army, king over Israel that day in the camp.

Et le peuple qui campait apprit cette nouvelle: Zimri a conspiré, et même il a tué le roi! Et ce jour-là, tout Israël établit dans le camp pour roi d'Israël Omri, chef de l'armée.

17 S o Omri went up from Gibbethon, and all Israel with him, and they besieged Tirzah.

Omri et tout Israël avec lui partirent de Guibbethon, et ils assiégèrent Thirtsa.

18 A nd when Zimri saw that the city was taken, he went into the stronghold of the king’s house and burned the king’s house over him with fire and died,

Zimri, voyant que la ville était prise, se retira dans le palais de la maison du roi, et brûla sur lui la maison du roi.

19 B ecause of his sins committed in doing evil in the sight of the Lord, in walking in the way of Jeroboam, and his sin in causing Israel to sin.

C'est ainsi qu'il mourut, à cause des péchés qu'il avait commis en faisant ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Éternel, en marchant dans la voie de Jéroboam, et en se livrant aux péchés que Jéroboam avait commis pour faire pécher Israël.

20 T he rest of the acts of Zimri, and his deeds of treason, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?

Le reste des actions de Zimri, et la conspiration qu'il forma, cela n'est-il pas écrit dans le livre des Chroniques des rois d'Israël?

21 T hen the people of Israel were divided into two factions. Half of the people followed Tibni son of Ginath, to make him king, and half followed Omri.

Alors le peuple d'Israël se divisa en deux partis: une moitié du peuple voulait faire roi Thibni, fils de Guinath, et l'autre moitié était pour Omri.

22 B ut the people who followed Omri prevailed against those who followed Tibni son of Ginath. So Tibni died and Omri reigned.

Ceux qui suivaient Omri l'emportèrent sur ceux qui suivaient Thibni, fils de Guinath. Thibni mourut, et Omri régna.

23 I n the thirty-first year of Asa king of Judah, Omri began his reign of twelve years over Israel. He reigned six years in Tirzah.

La trente et unième année d'Asa, roi de Juda, Omri régna sur Israël. Il régna douze ans. Après avoir régné six ans à Thirtsa,

24 O mri bought the hill Samaria from Shemer for two talents of silver. He built a city on the hill and fortified it, and called it Samaria (Shomeron), after the owner of the hill, Shemer.

il acheta de Schémer la montagne de Samarie pour deux talents d'argent; il bâtit sur la montagne, et il donna à la ville qu'il bâtit le nom de Samarie, d'après le nom de Schémer, seigneur de la montagne.

25 B ut Omri did evil in the eyes of the Lord, even worse than all who were before him.

Omri fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Éternel, et il agit plus mal que tous ceux qui avaient été avant lui.

26 H e walked in all the ways of Jeroboam son of Nebat and in his sin, by which he made Israel sin, to provoke the Lord, the God of Israel, to anger with their idols.

Il marcha dans toute la voie de Jéroboam, fils de Nebath, et se livra aux péchés que Jéroboam avait fait commettre à Israël, irritant par leurs idoles l'Éternel, le Dieu d'Israël.

27 T he rest of the acts of Omri, and his might that he showed, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?

Le reste des actions d'Omri, ce qu'il a fait, et ses exploits, cela n'est-il pas écrit dans le livre des Chroniques des rois d'Israël?

28 S o Omri slept with his fathers and was buried in Samaria. Ahab his son reigned in his stead.

Omri se coucha avec ses pères, et il fut enterré à Samarie. Et Achab, son fils, régna à sa place.

29 I n the thirty-eighth year of Asa king of Judah, Ahab son of Omri began his reign of twenty-two years over Israel in Samaria.

Achab, fils d'Omri, régna sur Israël, la trente-huitième année d'Asa, roi de Juda. Achab, fils d'Omri, régna vingt-deux ans sur Israël à Samarie.

30 A nd Ahab son of Omri did evil in the sight of the Lord above all before him.

Achab, fils d'Omri, fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Éternel, plus que tous ceux qui avaient été avant lui.

31 A s if it had been a light thing for Ahab to walk in the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, he took for a wife Jezebel daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and served Baal and worshiped him.

Et comme si c'eût été pour lui peu de choses de se livrer aux péchés de Jéroboam, fils de Nebath, il prit pour femme Jézabel, fille d'Ethbaal, roi des Sidoniens, et il alla servir Baal et se prosterner devant lui.

32 H e erected an altar for Baal in the house of Baal which he built in Samaria.

Il éleva un autel à Baal dans la maison de Baal qu'il bâtit à Samarie,

33 A nd Ahab made an Asherah. Ahab did more to provoke the Lord, the God of Israel, to anger than all the kings of Israel before him.

et il fit une idole d'Astarté. Achab fit plus encore que tous les rois d'Israël qui avaient été avant lui, pour irriter l'Éternel, le Dieu d'Israël.

34 I n his days, Hiel the Bethelite built Jericho. He laid its foundations at the cost of the life of Abiram his firstborn, and set up its gates with the loss of his youngest son Segub, according to the word of the Lord which He spoke through Joshua son of Nun.

De son temps, Hiel de Béthel bâtit Jéricho; il en jeta les fondements au prix d'Abiram, son premier-né, et il en posa les portes aux prix de Segub, son plus jeune fils, selon la parole que l'Éternel avait dite par Josué, fils de Nun.
