1 O God of my praise! Keep not silence,

«Al maestro del coro. Salmo di Davide.» O DIO della mia lode, non tacere,

2 F or the mouths of the wicked and the mouth of deceit are opened against me; they have spoken to me and against me with lying tongues.

perché uomini empi e disonesti hanno aperto la loro bocca contro di me e hanno parlato contro di me con una lingua bugiarda;

3 T hey have compassed me about also with words of hatred and have fought against me without a cause.

mi hanno assalito con parole di odio e mi hanno fatta guerra senza motivo.

4 I n return for my love they are my adversaries, but I resort to prayer.

In cambio del mio amore, mi accusano, ma io faccio ricorso alla preghiera.

5 A nd they have rewarded and laid upon me evil for good, and hatred for my love.

Essi mi hanno reso male per bene e odio in cambio del mio amore.

6 S et a wicked man over him, and let accuser stand at his right hand.

Stabilisci un uomo malvagio su di lui, e un accusatore stia alla sua destra.

7 W hen is judged, let him be condemned, and let his prayer be turned into a sin.

Quando sarà giudicato, fa' che sia trovato colpevole, e la sua preghiera diventi peccato.

8 L et his days be few; and let another take his office and charge.

Siano pochi i suoi giorni e un altro prenda il suo posto.

9 L et his children be fatherless and his wife a widow.

I suoi figli rimangano orfani e la sua moglie vedova.

10 L et his children be continual vagabonds and beg; let them seek their bread and be driven far from their ruined homes.

Siano i suoi figli vagabondi e mendicanti e cerchino cibo lontano dalle loro case in rovina.

11 L et the creditor and extortioner seize all that he has; and let strangers (barbarians and foreigners) plunder the fruits of his labor.

L'usuraio si prenda tutti i suoi averi, e gli estranei lo derubino del frutto delle sue fatiche.

12 L et there be none to extend or continue mercy and kindness to him, neither let there be any to have pity on his fatherless children.

Nessuno usi con lui misericordia e nessuno abbia pietà dei suoi orfani.

13 L et his posterity be cut off, and in the generation following let their names be blotted out.

Sia la sua discendenza distrutta; nella seconda generazione sia il loro nome cancellato.

14 L et the iniquity of his fathers be remembered by the Lord; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.

Sia l'iniquità dei suoi padri ricordata davanti all'Eterno e il peccato di sua madre non sia cancellato.

15 L et them be before the Lord continually, that He may cut off the memory of them from the earth!—

Siano i loro peccati sempre davanti all'Eterno, affinché egli faccia sparire dalla terra il loro ricordo.

16 B ecause the man did not remember to show mercy, but pursued and persecuted the poor and needy man, and the broken in heart to slay.

Poiché egli non si è ricordato di usare misericordia, ma ha perseguitato il povero, il bisognoso e chi aveva il cuore rotto, fino a farli morire.

17 Y es, he loved cursing, and it came upon him; he delighted not in blessing, and it was far from him.

Poiché ha amato la maledizione, ricada essa su di lui; e poiché non si è compiaciuto nella benedizione, si allontani essa da lui.

18 H e clothed himself also with cursing as with his garment, and it seeped into his inward like water, and like oil into his bones.

Poiché si è coperto di maledizione come di un vestito, entri essa come acqua nel suo corpo e come olio nelle sue ossa;

19 L et it be to him as the raiment with which he covers himself and as the girdle with which he is girded continually.

sia per lui come un vestito che lo copre e come una cintura che lo lega per sempre.

20 L et this be the reward of my adversaries from the Lord, and of those who speak evil against my life.

Sia questa da parte dell'Eterno la ricompensa per i miei avversari e per quelli che parlano male contro di me.

21 B ut You deal with me and act for me, O God the Lord, for Your name’s sake; because Your mercy and loving-kindness are good, O deliver me.

Ma tu, o Eterno, Signore, opera a mio favore per amore del tuo nome, liberami per la tua misericordia e bontà

22 F or I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded and stricken within me.

perché io sono povero e bisognoso, è il mio cuore è ferito dentro di me.

23 I am gone like the shadow when it lengthens and declines; I toss up and down and am shaken off as the locust.

Io me ne vado come ombra che si allunga, sono scosso via come una cavalletta.

24 M y knees are weak and totter from fasting; and my body is gaunt and has no fatness.

Le mie ginocchia vacillano per il digiuno e il mio corpo si è fatto magro per mancanza di grasso.

25 I have become also a reproach and a taunt to others; when they see me, they shake their heads.

Sono diventato per loro un obbrobrio; quando mi vedono scuotono il capo

26 H elp me, O Lord my God; O save me according to Your mercy and loving-kindness!—

Aiutami, o Eterno mio DIO, salvami per la tua misericordia,

27 T hat they may know that this is Your hand, that You, Lord, have done it.

e sappiano che questo è opera della tua mano, e che tu, o Eterno, l'hai fatto.

28 L et them curse, but do You bless. When adversaries arise, let them be put to shame, but let Your servant rejoice.

Essi malediranno, ma tu benedirai quando si innalzeranno, resteranno confusi, ma il tuo servo si rallegrerà.

29 L et my adversaries be clothed with shame and dishonor, and let them cover themselves with their own disgrace and confusion as with a robe.

Siano i miei avversari coperti di vituperio e avvolti di vergogna come di un mantello.

30 I will give great praise and thanks to the Lord with my mouth; yes, and I will praise Him among the multitude.

Io celebrerò grandemente l'Eterno con la mia bocca e lo loderò in mezzo alla grande folla,

31 F or He will stand at the right hand of the poor and needy, to save him from those who condemn his life.

perché egli sta alla destra del povero, per salvarlo da quelli che lo condannano a morte.
