1 A gain in the ninth year, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

La parola dell'Eterno mi fu rivolta nel nono anno, nel decimo mese, il decimo giorno del mese, dicendo:

2 S on of man, record the name of the day, even of this same day; the king of Babylon set himself against and assailed Jerusalem this same day.

«Figlio d'uomo, scrivi la data di oggi, proprio di questo giorno. Il re di Babilonia ha deciso di assediare Gerusalemme oggi stesso.

3 A nd utter a parable against the rebellious house and say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Put on a pot; put it on and also pour water into it.

Proponi una parabola a questa casa ribelle, e di' loro: Cosí dice il Signore, l'Eterno: Metti su la pentola, mettila su e versaci dentro acqua.

4 P ut into it the pieces, all the good pieces, the thigh and the shoulder; fill it with the choice of the bones.

Raccogli in essa i pezzi di carne, tutti i pezzi buoni, la coscia e la spalla; riempila con ossa scelte.

5 T ake the choicest of the flock and burn also the unused bones under it, and make it boil well and seethe its bones in.

Prendi il meglio del gregge, quindi ammucchiavi sotto la legna, falla bollire gagliardamente, affinché in essa bollano anche le sue ossa».

6 T herefore thus says the Lord God: Woe to the bloody city, to the pot whose rust and scum are in it and whose rust and scum have not gone out of it! Take out of it piece by piece, without making any choice.

Perciò, cosí dice il Signore, l'Eterno: «Guai alla città sanguinaria, alla pentola in cui c'è sporcizia, e la cui sporcizia non se ne va. Vuotala pezzo per pezzo senza tirare a sorte su di essa.

7 F or the blood she has shed remains in the midst of her; she put it upon the bare rock; she did not pour it on the ground to cover it with dust.

Poiché il suo sangue è in mezzo a lei; lo ha posto in cima a una roccia, non l'ha sparso in terra per coprirlo di polvere.

8 T hat it may cause wrath to come up to take vengeance, I have put her blood upon the bare rock, that it would not be covered.

Per eccitare il furore, per farne vendetta, ha posto il suo sangue in cima a una roccia perché non fosse coperto».

9 T herefore thus says the Lord God: Woe to the bloodguilty city! Also I will make the pile great.

Perciò cosí dice il Signore, l'Eterno: «Guai alla città sanguinaria! Anch'io faro' un gran rogo.

10 H eap on wood, kindle the fire and make it hot, boil well the meat and mix the spices, pour out the broth when thick, and let the bones be burned up.

Ammassa la legna, accendi il fuoco, fa' cuocere bene la carne, mescola le spezie e lascia che le ossa brucino.

11 T hen set back empty upon the coals, that the bronze of it may be hot and may glow and the filthiness of it may be melted in it and the rust and scum of it may be consumed.

Poi metti la pentola vuota sui carboni, perché si riscaldi e il suo bronzo diventi rovente affinché la sua impurità si dissolva in mezzo ad essa, e la sua sporcizia sia consumata.

12 S he has wearied herself and Me with toil; yet her great rust and scum go not forth out of her, for however hotly the fire burns, her thick rust and filth will not go out of her by fire.

Essa mi ha stancato con le sue menzogne; la sua grande sporcizia non se ne va; la sua sporcizia andrà a finire nel fuoco.

13 I n your filthiness is abomination; because I would have cleansed you and you were not cleansed, you shall not be cleansed from your filthiness any more until I have satisfied My wrath against and upon you.

C'è dissolutezza nella tua impurità. Io infatti ho cercato di purificarti, ma tu non sei pura; non sarai piú purificata dalla tua impurità, finché non abbia sfogato su di te il mio furore,

14 I the Lord have spoken it; it shall come to pass and I will do it; I will not go back, neither will I spare, neither will I relent; according to your ways and according to your doings shall they judge and punish you, says the Lord God.

Io, l'Eterno, ho parlato, la cosa avverrà, io la compirò; non indietreggerò, non avrò compassione, non mi pentirò. Sarai giudicata secondo la tua condotta e secondo le tue azioni, dice il Signore, l'Eterno».

15 A lso the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

La parola dell'Eterno mi fu rivolta dicendo:

16 S on of man, behold, I take away from you the desire of your eyes at a single stroke. Yet you shall neither mourn nor weep, neither shall your tears flow.

«Figlio d'uomo, ecco, io ti porterò via con un sol colpo la delizia dei tuoi occhi; ma tu non far cordoglio, non piangere e non versare alcuna lacrima.

17 S igh and groan, but not aloud; make no mourning for the dead; bind your turban upon your head and put your shoes on your feet, and do not cover your beard or eat the bread of mourners.

Gemi in silenzio, non fare il lutto per i morti, cingiti il capo col turbante, mettiti i sandali ai piedi, non coprirti la barba e non mangiare il pane delle persone in lutto».

18 S o I spoke to the people in the morning and in the evening my wife died, and I did the next morning as I was commanded.

Al mattino parlai al popolo e alla sera mia moglie morí; la mattina dopo feci come mi era stato comandato.

19 A nd the people said to me, Will you not tell us what these things are supposed to mean to us, that you are acting as you do?

Il popolo allora mi chiese: «Non ci spiegherai che cosa significa per noi quello che fai?».

20 T hen I answered them, The word of the Lord came to me, saying,

Io risposi loro: La parola dell'Eterno mi è stata rivolta, dicendo:

21 S peak to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I will profane My sanctuary— pride as your strength, the desire of your eyes, and the pity and sympathy of your soul; and your sons and your daughters whom you have left behind shall fall by the sword.

Di' alla casa d'Israele: Cosí dice il Signore, l'Eterno: Ecco io profanerò il mio santuario, l'orgoglio della vostra forza, la delizia dei vostri occhi, il diletto della vostra anima; e i vostri figli e le vostre figlie che avete lasciato cadranno di spada.

22 A nd you shall do as I have done; you shall not cover your beard nor eat the bread of mourning,

E voi farete come ho fatto io: non vi coprirete la barba e non mangerete il pane delle persone in lutto.

23 A nd your turbans shall be upon your heads and your shoes upon your feet; you shall not mourn or weep, but you shall pine away for your iniquities (your guilt) and sigh and groan to one another.

Avrete i vostri turbanti in capo, i vostri sandali ai piedi; non farete cordoglio e non piangerete, ma vi struggerete per le vostre iniquità e gemerete l'uno con l'altro.

24 T hus Ezekiel is to you a sign; according to all that he has done you shall do. And when this comes, you shall know, understand, and realize that I am the Lord God.

Cosí Ezechiele sarà per voi un segno; voi farete in tutto come ha fatto lui. Quando queste cose accadranno, riconoscerete che io sono il Signore, l'Eterno.

25 A nd you, son of man, on the day when I take from them their strength and their stronghold, their joy and their glory, the delight of their eyes and their hearts’ chief desire, and also their sons and their daughters—

E tu, figlio d'uomo, il giorno in cui porterò loro via la loro fortezza, la gioia della loro gloria, il diletto dei loro occhi, la brama della loro anima, i loro figli e le loro figlie,

26 O n that day an escaped fugitive shall come to you to cause you to hear of it with your own ears.

in quel giorno un fuggiasco verrà da te per dartene la notizia.

27 I n that day your mouth shall be open to him who has escaped, and you shall speak and be no more speechless, and you shall be a sign to them and they shall know, understand, and realize that I am the Lord.

In quel giorno la tua bocca si aprirà col fuggiasco; allora parlerai e non sarai più muto, e sarai per loro un segno. Allora riconosceranno che io sono l'Eterno».
