1 W ho is this Who comes from Edom, with crimson-stained garments from Bozrah ? This One Who is glorious in His apparel, striding triumphantly in the greatness of His might? It is I, Who speaks in righteousness, mighty to save!

Chi è costui che viene da Edom, da Botsrah, con le vesti tinte di scarlatto? Costui, splendido nella sua veste, che procede nella grandezza della sua forza? «Sono io che parlo con giustizia e sono potente nel salvare».

2 W hy is Your apparel splashed with red, and Your garments like the one who treads in the winepress?

Perché la tua veste è rossa e i tuoi abiti come quelli di chi pigia nel tino?

3 I have trodden the winepress alone, and of the peoples there was no one with Me. I trod them in My anger and trampled them in My wrath; and their lifeblood is sprinkled upon My garments, and I stained all My raiment.

«Il tino l'ho pigiato da solo e dei popoli nessuno è stato con me. Li ho pigiati nella mia ira e li ho calpestati nel mio furore. Il loro sangue è spruzzato sulle mie vesti e ho macchiato tutti i miei abiti.

4 F or the day of vengeance was in My heart, and My year of redemption has come.

Poiché il giorno della vendetta era nel mio cuore e l'anno della mia redenzione è giunto.

5 A nd I looked, but there was no one to help; I was amazed and appalled that there was no one to uphold. So My own arm brought Me victory, and My wrath upheld Me.

Guardai, ma non c'era nessuno che mi aiutasse; rimasi stupito che nessuno mi sostenesse. Allora il mio stesso braccio mi ha salvato e il mio furore mi ha sostenuto.

6 I trod down the peoples in My anger and made them drink of the cup of My wrath until they were intoxicated, and I spilled their lifeblood upon the earth.

Ho calpestato i popoli nella mia ira, li ho resi ubriachi nel mio furore e ho fatto scorrere il loro sangue sulla terra».

7 I will recount the loving-kindnesses of the Lord and the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, according to all that the Lord has bestowed on us, and the great goodness to the house of Israel, which He has granted them according to His mercy and according to the multitude of His loving-kindnesses.

Io ricorderò le benignità dell'Eterno le lodi dell'Eterno per tutto ciò che l'Eterno ci ha largito e la grande bontà usata alla casa d'Israele, concessa loro secondo le sue compassioni e secondo la sua grande benevolenza.

8 F or He said, Surely they are My people, sons who will not lie; and so He was to them a Savior.

Egli infatti aveva detto: «Essi sono veramente il mio popolo, figli che non agiranno falsamente». Cosí divenne il loro Salvatore.

9 I n all their affliction He was afflicted, and the Angel of His presence saved them; in His love and in His pity He redeemed them; and He lifted them up and carried them all the days of old.

In ogni loro afflizione egli fu afflitto, e l'Angelo della sua presenza li salvò; nel suo amore e nella sua compassione li redense, li sollevò e li portò tutti i giorni del passato.

10 B ut they rebelled and grieved His Holy Spirit; therefore He turned to become their enemy and Himself fought against them.

Ma essi si ribellarono, e contristarono il suo santo Spirito; perciò egli divenne loro nemico e combattè contro di loro.

11 T hen His people remembered the days of old, of Moses and his people, Where is He Who brought up out of the Sea, with shepherds of His flock? Where is He Who put His Holy Spirit within their midst,

Allora il suo popolo si ricordò dei giorni antichi di Mosè Dov'è colui che li fece uscire dal mare col pastore del suo gregge? Dov'è colui che metteva in mezzo a loro il suo santo Spirito,

12 W ho caused His glorious arm to go at the right hand of Moses, dividing the waters before them, to make for Himself an everlasting name,

che li guidava per mezzo della destra di Mosè con il suo braccio glorioso, che divise le acque davanti a loro per farsi un nome eterno

13 W ho led them through the depths, like a horse in the wilderness, so that they did not stumble?

che li condusse attraverso gli abissi, come un cavallo nel deserto, perché non inciampassero?

14 L ike the cattle that go down into the valley, the Spirit of the Lord caused them to rest. So did You lead Your people to make for Yourself a beautiful and glorious name.

Come il bestiame scende nella valle, lo Spirito dell'Eterno li fece riposare. Cosí tu guidasti il tuo popolo, per farti un nome glorioso.

15 L ook down from heaven and see from the dwelling place of Your holiness and Your glory. Where are Your zeal and Your jealousy and Your mighty acts ? Your yearning pity and the compassions of Your heart are restrained and withheld from me.

Guarda dal cielo e vedi dalla tua dimora santa e gloriosa. Dov'è il tuo zelo e la tua potenza? Il fremito delle tue viscere e le tue tenere compassioni verso di me sono forse state represse?

16 F or You are our Father, even though Abraham does not know us and Israel (Jacob) does not acknowledge us; You, O Lord, are our Father, our Redeemer from everlasting is Your name.

Poiché tu sei nostro padre, anche se Abrahamo non ci conosceva e Israele ci ignora. Tu, o Eterno, sei nostro padre nostro Redentore, da sempre è il tuo nome.

17 O Lord, why have You made us to err from Your ways and hardened our hearts to fear of You? Return for Your servants’ sake, the tribes of Your heritage.

O Eterno, perché ci fai errare lontano dalle tue vie e indurisci il nostro cuore perché non ti tema? Ritorna per amore dei tuoi servi, alle tribú della tua eredità.

18 Y our holy people possessed Your sanctuary but a little while; our adversaries have trodden it down.

Per poco tempo il tuo santo popolo, ha posseduto il paese; i nostri nemici hanno calpestato il tuo santuario.

19 W e have become like those over whom You never exercised rule, like those who were not called by Your name.

Noi siamo diventati come quelli sui quali non hai mai governato, sui quali il tuo nome non è mai stato invocato.
