1 A nd it cometh to pass, when he finisheth to speak unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan hath been bound to the soul of David, and Jonathan loveth him as his own soul.

И като престана <Давид> да говори със Саула, душата на Ионатана се свърза с душата на Давида, и Ионатан го обикна както Собствената си душа.

2 A nd Saul taketh him on that day, and hath not permitted him to turn back to the house of his father.

И в същия ден Саул го взе при себе си, и не го остави да се върне вече в бащиния си дом.

3 A nd Jonathan maketh -- also David -- a covenant, because he loveth him as his own soul,

Тогава Ионатан направи завет с Давида, защото го обичаше като собствената си душа.

4 a nd Jonathan strippeth himself of the upper robe which upon him, and giveth it to David, and his long robe, even unto his sword, and unto his bow, and unto his girdle.

Още Ионатан съблече мантията, която беше на него, та я даде на Давида, и дрехите си, и собствения си меч, лъка си и пояса си.

5 A nd David goeth out whithersoever Saul doth send him; he acted wisely, and Saul setteth him over the men of war, and it is good in the eyes of all the people, and also in the eyes of the servants of Saul.

И Давид излизаше навсякъде, гдето го пращаше Саул, и обхождаше се разумно; и Саул го постави над военните мъже; и това беше угодно пред очите на всичките люде, а още и пред очите на Сауловите служители.

6 A nd it cometh to pass, in their coming in, in David's returning from smiting the Philistine, that the women come out from all the cities of Israel to sing -- also the dancers -- to meet Saul the king, with tabrets, with joy, and with three-stringed instruments;

А като идеха по случай завръщането на Давида от поражението на филистимците, жените излизаха от всичките Израилеви градове та пееха и играеха хоро, в посрещането на царя Саула, с тъпанчета, с радост и с кимвали.

7 a nd the women answer -- those playing, and say, `Saul hath smitten among his thousands, And David among his myriads.'

И жените, като играеха, пееха ответно и думаха: Саул порази хилядите си, А Давид десетките си хиляди.

8 A nd it is displeasing to Saul exceedingly, and this thing is evil in his eyes, and he saith, `They have given to David myriads, and to me they have given the thousands, and more to him only the kingdom;'

А Саул се разсърди много, и тия думи му бяха оскърбителни, и каза: На Давида отдадоха десетки хиляди, а на мене дадоха хиляди; и какво му липсва още освен царството?

9 a nd Saul is eyeing David from that day and thenceforth.

И от същия ден и нататък Саул гледаше <на> Давида с лошо око.

10 A nd it cometh to pass, on the morrow, that the spirit of sadness God prospereth over Saul, and he prophesieth in the midst of the house, and David is playing with his hand, as day by day, and the javelin in the hand of Saul,

И на следния ден зъл дух от Бога нападна Саула, и той лудееше всред къщата си; и Давид свиреше с ръката си, както всеки ден, а Саул държеше копието си в ръка.

11 a nd Saul casteth the javelin, and saith, `I smite through David, even through the wall;' and David turneth round out of his presence twice.

И Саул хвърли копието, като каза: Ще закова Давида дори до стената. Но Давид се отклони от присъствието му два пъти.

12 A nd Saul is afraid of the presence of David, for Jehovah hath been with him, and from Saul He hath turned aside;

И Саул се страхуваше от Давида, понеже Господ беше с него, а от Саула беше се оттеглил.

13 a nd Saul turneth him aside from him, and appointeth him to himself head of a thousand, and he goeth out an cometh in, before the people.

Затова Саул го отстраняваше от при себе си, и постави го хилядник; и той излизаше и влизаше пред людете.

14 A nd David is in all his ways acting wisely, and Jehovah with him,

И Давид се обхождаше разумно във всичките си пътища; и Господ беше с него.

15 a nd Saul seeth that he is acting very wisely, and is afraid of him,

Затова Саул, като гледаше, че <Давид> се обхождаше твърде разумно, страхуваше се от него.

16 a nd all Israel and Judah love David when he is going out and coming in before them.

А целият Израил и Юда обичаха Давида, понеже излизаше и влизаше пред тях.

17 A nd Saul saith unto David, `Lo, my elder daughter Merab -- her I give to thee for a wife; only, be to me for a son of valour, and fight the battles of Jehovah;' and Saul said, `Let not my hand be on him, but let the hand of the Philistines be upon him.'

Тогава Саул каза на Давида, Ето по-голямата ми дъщеря Мерава; нея ще ти дам за жена; само служи ми храбро, и воювай в Господните войни. Защото Саул си каза: Нека моята ръка не се дига върху него, но ръката на филистимците нека се дигне върху него.

18 A nd David saith unto Saul, `Who I? and what my life -- the family of my father in Israel -- that I am son-in-law to the king?'

И Давид каза на Саула: Кой съм аз, и какъв е животът ми, <и какво е> бащиното ми семейство между Израиля, та да стана аз царски зет?

19 A nd it cometh to pass, at the time of the giving of Merab daughter of Saul to David, that she hath been given to Adriel the Meholathite for a wife.

Обаче, във времето, когато Сауловата дъщеря Мерава трябваше да се даде на Давида, тя бе дадена на меолатянина Адриил за жена.

20 A nd Michal daughter of Saul loveth David, and they declare to Saul, and the thing is right in his eyes,

А Сауловата дъщеря Михала обичаше Давида, и като известиха това на Саула, стана му угодно.

21 a nd Saul saith, `I give her to him, and she is to him for a snare, and the hand of the Philistines is on him;' and Saul saith unto David, `By the second -- thou dost become my son-in-law to-day.'

И рече Саул: Ще му я дам, за да му бъде примка, и за да се дигне върху него ръката на филистимците. Затова Саул каза на Давида втори път: Днес ще ми станеш зет.

22 A nd Saul commandeth his servants, `Speak unto David gently, saying, Lo, the king hath delighted in thee, and all his servants have loved thee, and now, be son-in-law to the king.'

И Саул заповяда на слугите си, <казвайки:> Говорете тайно на Давида и кажете: Ето, благоволението на царя <е> към тебе, и всичките му служители те обичат; сега, прочее, стани зет на царя.

23 A nd the servants of Saul speak in the ears of David these words, and David saith, `Is it a light thing in your eyes to be son-in-law to the king -- and I a poor man, and lightly esteemed?'

И тъй, Сауловите служители говориха тия думи в ушите на Давида. Но Давид рече: Лесно нещо ли ви се вижда да стане някой царски зет? А аз съм човек сиромах и нищожен.

24 A nd the servants of Saul declare to him, saying, `According to these words hath David spoken.'

И служителите на Саула му известиха, казвайки: Така и така казва Давид.

25 A nd Saul saith, `Thus do ye say to David, There is no delight to the king in dowry, but in a hundred foreskins of the Philistines -- to be avenged on the enemies of the king;' and Saul thought to cause David to fall by the hand of the Philistines.

А Саул каза: Така да говорите на Давида: Царят не ще вено, но сто филистимски краекожия, за да си отмъсти на царевите неприятели. Но Саул замислюваше да направи Давида да падне чрез ръцете на филистимците.

26 A nd his servants declare to David these words, and the thing is right in the eyes of David, to be son-in-law to the king; and the days have not been full,

А когато служителите му известиха на Давида тия думи, угодно беше на Давида да стане зет на царя; за туй, и преди да изминат <определените за това> дни,

27 a nd David riseth and goeth, he and his men, and smiteth among the Philistines two hundred men, and David bringeth in their foreskins, and they set them before the king, to be son-in-law to the king; and Saul giveth to him Michal his daughter for a wife.

Давид стана та отиде, той и мъжете му, и уби от филистимците двеста мъже; и Давид донесе краекожията им и даде ги напълно на царя, за да стане царски зет. И Саул му даде дъщеря си Михала за жена.

28 A nd Saul seeth and knoweth that Jehovah with David, and Michal daughter of Saul hath loved him,

И Саул видя и позна, че Господ беше с Давида; а Сауловата дъщеря Михала го обичаше.

29 a nd Saul addeth to be afraid of the presence of David yet; and Saul is an enemy with David all the days.

И тъй, Саул още повече се страхуваше от Давида; и Саул стана Давидов враг за винаги.

30 A nd the princes of the Philistines come out, and it cometh to pass from the time of their coming out, David hath acted more wisely than any of the servants of Saul, and his name is very precious.

И филистимските началници пак излизаха <на бой>; но колкото пъти излизаха, Давид успяваше повече от всичките Саулови служители, така щото името му беше на голяма почит.
