1 A man there hath been in the land of Uz -- Job his name -- and that man hath been perfect and upright -- both fearing God, and turning aside from evil.

Имаше в земята Уз {Или: Авситис. Виж. Бит. 10: 23, 22: 20, 21, 3: 28.} един човек на име Иов. Тоя човек бе непорочен и правдив, боеше се от Бога, и отдалечаваше се от злото.

2 A nd there are borne to him seven sons and three daughters,

И родиха му се седем сина и три дъщери.

3 a nd his substance is seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred pairs of oxen, and five hundred she-asses, and a service very abundant; and that man is greater than any of the sons of the east.

А добитъкът му беше седем хиляди овце, три хиляди камили, петстотин чифта волове; и петстотин ослици; <имаше> и голямо множество слуги; така че тоя човек бе най-големият от всичките жители на изток.

4 A nd his sons have gone and made a banquet -- the house of each his day -- and have sent and called to their three sisters to eat and to drink with them;

И синовете му отиваха и правеха угощения в къщата на всекиго <от тях> на неговия ден; и пращаха да повикат трите си сестри, за да ядат и пият с тях.

5 a nd it cometh to pass, when they have gone round the days of the banquet, that Job doth send and sanctify them, and hath risen early in the morning, and caused to ascend burnt-offerings -- the number of them all -- for Job said, `Perhaps my sons have sinned, yet blessed God in their heart.' Thus doth Job all the days.

И когато се изреждаха дните на угощаването, Иов пращаше за <чадата си> та ги освещаваше, като ставаше рано заранта и принасяше всеизгаряния според числото на всички тях; защото Иов си думаше: Да не би синовете ми да са съгрешили и да са похулили Бога в сърцата си. Така правеше Иов постоянно.

6 A nd the day is, that sons of God come in to station themselves by Jehovah, and there doth come also the Adversary in their midst.

А един ден, като дойдоха Божиите синове да се представят пред Господа, между тях дойде и Сатана.

7 A nd Jehovah saith unto the Adversary, `Whence comest thou?' And the Adversary answereth Jehovah and saith, `From going to and fro in the land, and from walking up and down on it.'

И Господ рече на Сатана: От где идеш? А Сатана в отговор на Господа рече: От обикаляне земята и от ходене насам натам по нея.

8 A nd Jehovah saith unto the Adversary, `Hast thou set thy heart against My servant Job because there is none like him in the land, a man perfect and upright, fearing God, and turning aside from evil?'

После Господ рече на Сатана: Обърнал ли си внимание на слугата Ми Иов, че няма подобен нему на земята, човек непорочен и правдив, който се бои от Бога и се отдалечава от злото?

9 A nd the Adversary answereth Jehovah and saith, `For nought is Job fearing God?

А Сатана в отговор на Господа рече: Дали без причина се бои Иов от Бога?

10 H ast not Thou made a hedge for him, and for his house, and for all that he hath -- round about?

Не си ли обградил от всякъде него и дома му и всичко що има? Благословил си делата на ръцете му, и имота му се е умножил на земята.

11 T he work of his hands Thou hast blessed, and his substance hath spread in the land, and yet, put forth, I pray Thee, Thy hand, and strike against anything that he hath -- if not: to Thy face he doth bless Thee!'

Но сега простри ръка и допри се до всичко що има, и той ще Те похули в лице.

12 A nd Jehovah saith unto the Adversary, `Lo, all that he hath in thy hand, only unto him put not forth thy hand.' And the Adversary goeth out from the presence of Jehovah.

И Господ рече на Сатана: Ето, в твоята ръка е всичко, що има той; само на него да не туриш ръка. Тогава Сатана излезе от присъствието на Господа.

13 A nd the day is, that his sons and his daughters are eating, and drinking wine, in the house of their brother, the first-born.

И един ден, когато синовете му и дъщерите му ядяха и пиеха вино в къщата на най-стария си брат,

14 A nd a messenger hath come in unto Job and saith, `The oxen have been plowing, and the she-asses feeding by their sides,

дойде вестител при Иова та рече: Като оряха воловете, и ослиците пасяха при тях,

15 a nd Sheba doth fall, and take them, and the young men they have smitten by the mouth of the sword, and I am escaped -- only I alone -- to declare to thee.'

савците нападнаха та ги откараха, още избиха слугите с острото на ножа; и само аз се отървах да ти известя.

16 W hile this is speaking another also hath come and saith, `Fire of God hath fallen from the heavens, and burneth among the flock, and among the young men, and consumeth them, and I am escaped -- only I alone -- to declare to thee.'

Докато още говореше, той, дойде и друг та рече: Огън от Бога падна от небето та изгори овцете и слугите и ги погълна; и само аз се отървах да ти известя.

17 W hile this is speaking another also hath come and saith, `Chaldeans made three heads, and rush on the camels, and take them, and the young men they have smitten by the mouth of the sword, and I am escaped -- only I alone -- to declare to thee.'

Тоя като още говореше, дойде и друг та рече: Халдейците образуваха три чети и се спуснаха върху камилите и ги откараха, още избиха слугите с острото на ножа; и само аз се отървах да ти известя.

18 W hile this is speaking another also hath come and saith, `Thy sons and thy daughters are eating, and drinking wine, in the house of their brother, the first-born.

Тоя като говореше още, дойде и друг та рече: Синовете ти и дъщерите ти като ядяха и пиеха вино в къщата на най-стария си брат,

19 A nd lo, a great wind hath come from over the wilderness, and striketh against the four corners of the house, and it falleth on the young men, and they are dead, and I am escaped -- only I alone -- to declare to thee.'

ето, дойде силен вятър от пустинята та удари четирите ъгъла на къщата, и тя падна върху чадата< ти> та умряха; и само аз се отървах да ти известя.

20 A nd Job riseth, and rendeth his robe, and shaveth his head, and falleth to the earth, and doth obeisance,

Тогава Иов стана, раздра дрехата си, и обръсна главата си, и като падна на земята поклони се.

21 a nd he saith, `Naked came I forth from the womb of my mother, and naked I turn back thither: Jehovah hath given and Jehovah hath taken: let the name of Jehovah be blessed.'

И рече: Гол излязох из утробата на майка си; гол ще и да се върна там. Господ даде, Господ отне; да бъде благословено Господното име.

22 I n all this Job hath not sinned, nor given folly to God.

Във всичко това Иов не съгреши, нито се изрази безумно спрямо Бога.
