1 S ucedeu depois disso que Davi derrotou os filisteus, e os sujeitou; e Davi tomou a Metegue-Ama das mãos dos filisteus.

After this David won the battle against the Philistines. And he took the most important city from the Philistines.

2 T ambém derrotou os moabitas, e os mediu com cordel, fazendo-os deitar por terra; e mediu dois cordéis para os matar, e um cordel inteiro para os deixar com vida. Ficaram assim os moabitas por servos de Davi, pagando-lhe tributos.

He won the battle against Moab, and had them lie down on the ground in straight groups. Two groups were put to death, and one group was kept alive. The Moabites became servants to David and paid taxes to him.

3 D avi também derrotou a Hadadézer, filho de Reobe, rei de Zobá, quando este ia estabelecer o seu domínio sobre o rio Eufrates.

Then David won the battle against Hadadezer the son of Rehob king of Zobah, as he went to get his power again at the Euphrates River.

4 E tomou-lhe Davi mil e setecentos cavaleiros e vinte mil homens de infantaria; e Davi jarretou a todos os cavalos dos carros, reservando apenas cavalos para cem carros.

David took 1, 700 horsemen and 20, 000 foot soldiers from him. He cut the legs of some of the war-wagon horses, but saved enough of them for 100 war-wagons.

5 O s sírios de Damasco vieram socorrer a Hadadézer, rei de Zobá, mas Davi matou deles vinte e dois mil homens.

When the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David killed 22, 000 of them.

6 E ntão Davi pôs guarnições em Síria de Damasco, e os sírios ficaram por servos de Davi, pagando-lhe tributos. E o Senhor lhe dava a vitória por onde quer que ia.

Then he put groups of soldiers in Damascus of Syria. The Syrians became servants to David and were made to pay taxes to him. The Lord helped David every place he went.

7 E Davi tomou os escudos de ouro que os servos de Hadadézer usavam, e os trouxe para Jerusalém.

David took the coverings of gold which were carried by Hadadezer’s army, and brought them to Jerusalem.

8 D e Betá e de Berotai, cidades de Hadadézer, o rei Davi tomou grande quantidade de bronze.

And he took a very large amount of brass from Hadadezer’s cities, Betah and Berothai.

9 Q uando Toí, rei de Hamate, ouviu que Davi ferira todo o exército de Hadadézer,

Now Toi king of Hamath heard that David had won the battle against the whole army of Hadadezer.

10 m andou-lhe seu filho Jorão para saudá-lo, e para felicitá-lo por haver pelejado contra Hadadézer e o haver derrotado; pois Hadadézer de contínuo fazia guerra a Toí. E Jorão trouxe consigo vasos de prata de ouro e de bronze,

So Toi sent his son Joram to King David, to greet him and pray that good would come to him, because David had fought against Hadadezer and had won. Hadadezer had been at war with Toi. Joram brought with him objects of silver, gold and brass.

11 o s quais o rei Davi consagrou ao Senhor, como já havia consagrado a prata e o ouro de todas as nações que sujeitara.

David set these apart to the Lord, together with the silver and gold he had set apart from all the nations he had taken in battle.

12 d a Síria, de Moabe, dos amonitas, dos filisteus, de Amaleque e dos despojos de Hadadézer, filho de Reobe, rei de Zobá.

He had taken silver and gold from Syria, Moab, the sons of Ammon, the Philistines, Amalek, and from the things taken from Hadadezer the son of Rehob, king of Zobah.

13 A ssim Davi ganhou nome para si. E quando voltou, matou no Vale do Sal a dezoito mil edomitas.

So David’s name was very respected when he returned from killing 18, 000 Syrians in the Valley of Salt.

14 E pôs guarnições em Edom; pô-las em todo o Edom, e todos os edomitas tornaram-se servos de Davi. E o Senhor lhe dava a vitória por onde quer que ia.

And he put groups of soldiers in Edom. In all Edom he put soldiers, and all the Edomites became servants to David. The Lord helped David every place he went.

15 R einou, pois, Davi sobre todo o Israel, e administrava a justiça e a eqüidade a todo o seu povo.

So David ruled all of Israel. He did what was right and good and fair for all his people.

16 J oabe, filho de Zeruia, estava sobre o exército; Jeosafá, filho de Ailude, era cronista;

Joab the son of Zeruiah was the head of the army. Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud wrote down the important things of the nation.

17 Z adoque, filho de Aitube, e Aimeleque, filho de Abiatar, eram sacerdotes; Seraías era escrivão;

Ahitub’s son Zadok and Abiathar’s son Ahimelech were religious leaders. Seraiah was the writer.

18 B enaías, filho de Jeoiada, tinha o cargo dos quereteus e peleteus; e os filhos de Davi eram ministros de estado.

Benaiah the son of Jehoiada ruled the Cherethites and the Pelethites. And David’s sons were the king’s helpers.
