This is the word about Nineveh, the book of the special dream of Nahum the Elkoshite. God’s Anger against Nineveh

2 O Senhor é um Deus zeloso e vingador; o Senhor é vingador e cheio de indignação; o Senhor toma vingança contra os seus adversários, e guarda a ira contra os seus inimigos.

The Lord is a jealous God and One Who punishes. The Lord punishes and is angry. The Lord punishes those who fight against Him. He is angry with those who hate Him.

3 O Senhor é tardio em irar-se, e de grande poder, e ao culpado de maneira alguma terá por inocente; o Senhor tem o seu caminho no turbilhão e na tempestade, e as nuvens sao o po dos seus pes.

The Lord is slow to anger and great in power. The Lord will be sure to punish the guilty. The way He punishes is in the strong-wind and storm. The clouds are the dust under His feet.

4 E le repreende o mar, e o faz secar, e esgota todos os rios; desfalecem Basã e Carmelo, e a flor do Líbano murcha.

He speaks sharp words to the sea and makes it dry. He dries up all the rivers. Bashan and Carmel dry up. The flowers of Lebanon dry up.

5 O s montes tremem perante ele, e os outeiros se derretem; e a terra fica devastada diante dele, sim, o mundo, e todos os que nele habitam.

Mountains shake because of Him, and the hills melt. The earth is laid waste before Him, the world and everyone in it.

6 Q uem pode manter-se diante do seu furor? e quem pode subsistir diante do ardor da sua ira? a sua cólera se derramou como um fogo, e por ele as rochas sao fendidas.

Who can stand before His anger? Who can live through the burning of His anger? His anger is poured out like fire, and the rocks are broken up by Him.

7 O Senhor é bom, uma fortaleza no dia da angústia; e conhece os que nele confiam.

The Lord is good, a safe place in times of trouble. And He knows those who come to Him to be safe.

8 E com uma inundação transbordante acabará duma vez com o lugar dela; e até para dentro das trevas perseguirá os seus inimigos.

But He will put an end to Nineveh by making a flood flow over it. And He will drive those who hate Him into darkness.

9 Q ue é o que projetais vós contra o Senhor? Ele destruirá de vez; não se levantará por duas vezes a angústia.

Whatever plan you make against the Lord, He will destroy it. Trouble will not come a second time.

10 P ois ainda que eles se entrelacem como os espinhos, e se saturem de vinho como bêbados, serão inteiramente consumidos como restolho seco.

They are like thorns that tie themselves together, like those who are drunk with strong drink. They are destroyed like dry grass.

11 N ão saiu de ti um que maquinava o mal contra o Senhor, aconselhando maldade?

From you one has come who makes sinful plans against the Lord, one who talks about sinful things to do.

12 A ssim diz o Senhor: Por mais intatos que sejam, e por mais numerosos, assim mesmo serão exterminados e passarão. Ainda que te afligi, não te afligirei mais.

The Lord says, “Even if they are strong and many, they will be destroyed and pass away. I have brought trouble to you, O Judah, but I will not bring you trouble any more.

13 M as agora quebrarei o seu jugo de sobre ti, e romperei as tuas cadeias.

Now I will break his load off your shoulders and tear off your chains.”

14 C ontra ti, porém, o Senhor deu ordem que não haja mais linhagem do teu nome; da casa dos teus deuses exterminarei as imagens de escultura e as de fundição; farei o teu sepulcro, porque és vil.

The Lord has said this about you: “You will have no one to carry on your name. I will destroy the false gods and objects of worship from the house of your gods. I will make your grave ready, for you are very sinful.”

15 E is sobre os montes os pés do que traz boas novas, do que anuncia a paz! Celebra as tuas festas, ó Judá, cumpre os teus votos, porque o ímpio não tornará mais a passar por ti; ele é inteiramente exterminado.

See, on the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news and speaks of peace! Keep your special suppers, O Judah. Keep your promises. For the sinful one will never come against you again. He is destroyed.
