1 O ra, os filisteus pelejaram contra Israel; e os homens de Israel fugiram de diante dos filisteus, e caíram mortos no monte Gilboa.
Now the Philistines were fighting against Israel. And the men of Israel ran from the Philistines and were killed and fell on Mount Gilboa.
2 E os filisteus apertaram com Saul e seus filhos, e mataram a Jônatas, a Abinadabe e e a Malquisua, filhos de Saul.
The Philistines came after Saul and his sons. They killed Saul’s sons Jonathan, Abinadab and Malchishua.
3 A peleja se agravou contra Saul, e os flecheiros o alcançaram, e o feriram gravemente.
The battle went against Saul. The men who used the bow hit him with arrows and hurt him very much.
4 P elo que disse Saul ae seu escudeiro: Arranca a tua espada, e atravessa-me com ela, para que porventura não venham esses incircuncisos, e me atravessem e escarneçam de mim. Mas o seu escudeiro não quis, porque temia muito. Então Saul tomou a espada, e se lançou sobre ela.
Then Saul said to the one who carried his battle-clothes, “Take your sword and cut through me with it. Or these men who have not gone through our religious act will come and kill me with the sword and make fun of me.” But the one who carried his battle-clothes would not do it, for he was filled with fear. So Saul took his sword and fell on it.
5 V endo, pois, e seu escudeiro que Saul já era morto, também ele se lançou sobre a sua espada, e morreu com ele.
When the one who carried his battle-clothes saw that Saul was dead, he fell on his sword also, and died with him.
6 A ssim morreram juntamente naquele dia Saul, seus três filhos, e seu escudeiro, e todos os seus homens.
So Saul, his three sons, the one who carried his battle-clothes, and all his men, died that day together.
7 Q uando os israelitas que estavam no outro lado do vale e os que estavam além de Jordão viram que os homens de Israel tinham fugido, e que Saul e seus filhos estavam mortos, abandonaram as suas cidades e fugiram; e vieram os filisteus e habitaram nelas.
The men of Israel who were on the other side of the valley, on the other side of the Jordan, saw that the men of Israel had run away and that Saul and his sons were dead. So they left the cities and ran away. Then the Philistines came and lived in them.
8 N o dia seguinte, quando os filisteus vieram para despojar os mortos, acharam Saul e seus três filhos estirados no monte Gilboa.
When the Philistines came to rob the dead the next day, they found Saul and his three sons lying on Mount Gilboa.
9 E ntão cortaram a cabeça a Saul e o despejaram das suas armas; e enviaram pela terra dos filisteus, em redor, a anunciá-lo no templo dos seus ídolos e entre e povo,
They cut off Saul’s head and took his sword and battle-clothes, and sent them through the land of the Philistines. They sent them to carry the good news to the house of their gods and to the people.
10 P useram as armas de Saul no templo de Astarote; e penduraram o seu corpo no muro de Bete-Sã.
They put his sword and battle-clothes in the house of their god Ashtaroth. And they tied his body to the wall of Beth-shan.
11 Q uando os moradores de Jabes-Gileade ouviram isso a respeito de Saul, isto é, o que os filisteus lhe tinham feito,
When the people of Jabesh-gilead heard what the Philistines had done to Saul,
12 t odos os homens valorosos se levantaram e, caminhando a noite toda, tiraram e corpo de Saul e os corpos de seus filhos do muro de Bete-Sã; e voltando a Jabes, ali os queimaram.
all the men with strength of heart went and walked all night. They took the bodies of Saul and his sons from the wall of Beth-shan, and came to Jabesh. There they burned them.
13 D epois tomaram os seus ossos, e os sepultaram debaixo da tamargueira, em Jabes, e jejuaram sete dias.
They took their bones and buried them under the tamarisk tree at Jabesh. And they did not eat for seven days.
