2 L 'Eterno è un Dio geloso e vendicatore, l'Eterno è vendicatore e pieno di furore. L'Eterno si vendica dei suoi avversari e conserva l'ira per i suoi nemici.

The Lord is a jealous God and One Who punishes. The Lord punishes and is angry. The Lord punishes those who fight against Him. He is angry with those who hate Him.

3 L 'Eterno è lento all'ira e grande in potenza, ma non lascia affatto impunito il malvagio. L'Eterno persegue il suo cammino nel turbine e nella tempesta e le nuvole sono la polvere dei suoi piedi.

The Lord is slow to anger and great in power. The Lord will be sure to punish the guilty. The way He punishes is in the strong-wind and storm. The clouds are the dust under His feet.

4 E gli sgrida il mare e lo prosciuga, e fa seccare tutti i fiumi. Bashan e Karmel inaridiscono e il fiore del Libano avvizzisce.

He speaks sharp words to the sea and makes it dry. He dries up all the rivers. Bashan and Carmel dry up. The flowers of Lebanon dry up.

5 I monti tremano davanti a lui, i colli si fondono, alla sua presenza la terra si solleva, sí, il mondo e tutti i suoi abitanti.

Mountains shake because of Him, and the hills melt. The earth is laid waste before Him, the world and everyone in it.

6 C hi può resistere davanti alla sua indignazione e chi può sopportare l'ardore della sua ira? Il suo furore è riversato come fuoco e le rocce sono da lui frantumate.

Who can stand before His anger? Who can live through the burning of His anger? His anger is poured out like fire, and the rocks are broken up by Him.

7 L 'Eterno è buono, una fortezza nel giorno dell'avversità; egli conosce quelli che si rifugiano in lui.

The Lord is good, a safe place in times of trouble. And He knows those who come to Him to be safe.

8 M a con una straripante inondazione egli compirà una totale distruzione del suo luogo, e i suoi nemici saranno inseguiti dalle tenebre.

But He will put an end to Nineveh by making a flood flow over it. And He will drive those who hate Him into darkness.

9 C he cosa progettate contro l'Eterno? Egli compirà una totale distruzione; l'avversità non avverrà due volte.

Whatever plan you make against the Lord, He will destroy it. Trouble will not come a second time.

10 P erché fossero pure intrecciati come rovi e fradici per il vino ingerito, essi saranno consumati come stoppia totalmente secca.

They are like thorns that tie themselves together, like those who are drunk with strong drink. They are destroyed like dry grass.

11 D a te è uscito chi ha tramato il male contro l'Eterno, chi ha concepito malvagità.

From you one has come who makes sinful plans against the Lord, one who talks about sinful things to do.

12 C osí dice l'Eterno: «Anche se sono pieni di forza e numerosi, saranno falciati e scompariranno. Anche se ti ho afflitta, non ti affliggerò piú.

The Lord says, “Even if they are strong and many, they will be destroyed and pass away. I have brought trouble to you, O Judah, but I will not bring you trouble any more.

13 O ra spezzerò il suo giogo di dosso a te e strapperò via i tuoi legami».

Now I will break his load off your shoulders and tear off your chains.”

14 M a riguardo a te l'Eterno ha dato questo comando: «Il tuo nome non sarà piú perpetuato. Dal tempio dei tuoi dèi farò scomparire le immagini scolpite e le immagini fuse. Ti preparerò la tomba, perché sei spregevole».

The Lord has said this about you: “You will have no one to carry on your name. I will destroy the false gods and objects of worship from the house of your gods. I will make your grave ready, for you are very sinful.”

15 E cco sui monti i piedi di chi annuncia buone novelle e che proclama la pace! Celebra le tue feste solenni, o Giuda, adempi i tuoi voti, perché il malvagio non passerà piú in mezzo a te; egli sarà interamente sterminato.

See, on the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news and speaks of peace! Keep your special suppers, O Judah. Keep your promises. For the sinful one will never come against you again. He is destroyed.
