1 L a parola che fu rivolta dall'Eterno a Geremia, dopo che Nebuzaradan, capo delle guardie, lo aveva mandato libero da Ramah, avendolo preso mentre era legato con catene in mezzo a tutti i deportati di Gerusalemme, e di Giuda, che erano condotti in cattività a Babilonia.

This is the word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord after Nebuzaradan, captain of the prison soldiers, had let him go from Ramah. He had taken him there in chains with all the other people of Jerusalem and Judah who were being taken to Babylon.

2 I l capo delle guardie prese Geremia e gli disse: «L'Eterno, il tuo DIO, ha pronunciato questo male contro questo luogo.

The captain of the prison soldiers took Jeremiah and said to him, “The Lord your God promised this trouble against this place.

3 O ra l'Eterno l'ha portato a compimento e ha fatto come aveva detto, perché voi avete peccato contro l'Eterno e non avete ascoltato la sua voce. Perciò vi è accaduta una simile cosa.

The Lord has brought it about, and has done just as He promised. This thing has happened to you because you people sinned against the Lord and did not listen to Him.

4 O ra ecco, oggi ti sciolgo dalle catene che hai alle mani; se ti fa piacere venire con me a Babilonia, vieni, e io avrò cura di te, ma se non ti fa piacere venire con me a Babilonia, rimani. Ecco, l'intero paese ti sta davanti; va' dove più ti piace e dove piú ti fa comodo».

But now I am setting you free today from the chains on your hands. If you would like to come with me to Babylon, then come, and I will see that it goes well with you. But if you do not want to come with me to Babylon, do not come. See, the whole land is before you. Go where you think it is good and right for you to go.

5 P oiché Geremia non si decideva a tornare, Nebuzaradan disse: «Torna da Ghedaliah figlio di Ahikam, figlio di Shafan, che il re di Babilonia ha stabilito sulle città di Giuda; dimora con lui in mezzo al popolo, o va' dove piú ti fa comodo». Poi il capo delle guardie gli diede provviste di cibo e un regalo e lo lasciò andare.

If you stay, then go back to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has set over the cities of Judah. Stay with him among the people. Or go where you think it is right to go.” Then the captain of the prison soldiers gave him a share of food and a gift, and let him go.

6 A llora Geremia andò da Ghedaliah, figlio di Ahikam, a Mitspah, e dimorò con lui in mezzo al popolo che era rimasto nel paese.

So Jeremiah went to Mizpah, to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam. And he stayed with him among the people who were left in the land. Gedaliah Is Ruler of Judah

7 Q uando tutti i capi delle forze che erano nella regione seppero con i loro uomini che il re di Babilonia aveva stabilito Ghedaliah, figlio di Ahikam, governatore nel paese e aveva affidato a lui uomini, donne, bambini e i piú poveri del paese che non erano stati condotti in cattività a Babilonia,

Now all the captains of the armies that were in the field and their men heard that the king of Babylon had chosen Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to rule over the land. The king had put him over the men, women and children who were the poorest of the land and had not been taken to Babylon.

8 s i recarono da Ghedaliah a Mitspah: Ishmael, figlio di Nethaniah, Johanan e Gionathan figli di Kareah, Seraiah figlio di Tanhumeth, i figli di Efai di Netofa e Jezaniah figlio del Maakathita assieme ai loro uomini.

So they came to Gedaliah at Mizpah. With them were Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, Johanan and Jonathan the sons of Kareah, Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth, the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah the son of the Maacathite, together with their men.

9 G hedaliah figlio di Ahikam, figlio di Shafan, giurò loro e ai loro uomini, dicendo: "Non abbiate timore di servire i Caldei, rimanete nel paese e servite il re di Babilonia e vi andrà tutto bene.

Then Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, made a promise to them and their men, saying, “Do not be afraid of serving the Babylonians. Stay in the land and serve the king of Babylon. Then it will go well with you.

10 Q uanto a me, ecco, io rimarrò a Mitspah per tenermi a disposizione dei Caldei, che verranno da noi, ma voi raccogliete il vino, la frutta d'estate e l'olio, riponeteli nei vostri recipienti e rimanete nelle vostre città che avete occupato».

As for me, I will stay at Mizpah to stand for you in front of the Babylonians who come to us. But as for you, gather wine and summer fruit and oil, and store them in your jars. And live in your cities that you have taken.”

11 A nche tutti i Giudei che erano in Moab, fra gli Ammoniti, in Edom e in tutti i paesi, quando vennero a sapere che il re di Babilonia aveva lasciato un residuo in Giuda e che aveva stabilito su di loro Ghedaliah figlio di Ahikam, figlio di Shafan,

All the Jews in Moab and Ammon and Edom, and in all the other countries, heard that the king of Babylon had left some of the people in Judah. They heard that he had chosen Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, to rule over them.

12 s í, tutti i Giudei ritornarono da tutti i luoghi dove erano stati dispersi e vennero nel paese di Giuda da Ghedaliah a Mitspah e raccolsero vino e frutta d'estate in grande abbondanza.

Then all the Jews returned from all the places where they had been driven, and came to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah at Mizpah. And they gathered much wine and summer fruit. Gedaliah Is Killed

13 O r Johanan, figlio di Kareah, e tutti i capi delle fone che erano nella regione vennero da Ghedaliah a Mitspah,

Now Johanan the son of Kareah and all the captains of the armies that were in the field came to Gedaliah at Mizpah.

14 e gli dissero: «Non sai che Baalis, re degli Ammoniti, ha mandato Ishmael, figlio di Nethaniah, per ucciderti?». Ma Ghedaliah, figlio di Ahikam, non credette loro.

They said to him, “Do you know that Baalis, the king of the sons of Ammon, has sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to kill you?” But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam did not believe them.

15 A llora Johanan, figlio di Kareah disse segretamente a Ghedaliah in Mitspah: «Deh, lasciami andare a uccidere Ishmael, figlio di Nethaniah; nessuno lo saprà. Perché dovrebbe toglierti la vita, e cosí tutti i Giudei che si sono raccolti presso di te andrebbero dispersi e il residuo di Giuda perirebbe?».

Then Johanan the son of Kareah said in secret to Gedaliah in Mizpah, “Let me go and kill Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no one will know about it. Why should he kill you? Then all the Jews who are gathered to you would go everywhere. And those of Judah who are left here would die.”

16 M a Ghedaliah, figlio di Ahikam, disse a Johanan, figlio di Kareah: «Non fare una tale cosa, perché ciò che tu dici di Ishmael è falso».

But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam said to Johanan the son of Kareah, “Do not do this. For you are telling a lie about Ishmael.”
