1 L 'Eterno visitò Sara come aveva detto; e l'Eterno fece a Sara come aveva promesso.

Then the Lord visited Sarah as He had said and did for her as He had promised.

2 E Sara concepì e partorì un figlio ad Abrahamo nella sua vecchiaia, al tempo stabilito, che DIO gli aveva detto.

Sarah was able to have a child and she gave birth to a son when Abraham was very old. He was born at the time the Lord said it would happen.

3 E Abrahamo pose nome Isacco al figlio che gli era nato, e che Sara gli aveva partorito.

Abraham gave the name Isaac to his son who was born to him by Sarah.

4 P oi Abrahamo circoncise suo figlio Isacco all'età di otto giorni, come DIO gli aveva comandato.

Then Abraham did the religious act of the Jews on Isaac when he was eight days old, as God had told him to do.

5 O ra Abrahamo aveva cento anni, quando gli nacque suo figlio Isacco.

Abraham was one hundred years old when Isaac was born.

6 E Sara disse: «DIO mi ha dato di che ridere; chiunque lo udrà riderà con me».

And Sarah said, “God has made me laugh. All who hear will laugh with me.”

7 E disse pure: «Chi avrebbe mai detto ad Abrahamo che Sara allatterebbe figli? Poiché io gli ho partorito un figlio nella sua vecchiaia».

She said, “Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet when he is so old I have given him a son.”

8 I l bambino dunque crebbe e fu svezzato; e nel giorno che Isacco fu svezzato Abrahamo fece un gran convito.

When the child grew old enough to stop nursing, Abraham made a special supper on that day. Hagar and Ishmael Are Sent Away

9 O ra Sara vide che il figlio partorito ad Abrahamo da Agar, l'egiziana, rideva.

But Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian make fun of Isaac. Abraham was the father of Hagar’s son.

10 A llora ella disse ad Abrahamo: «Scaccia questa serva e suo figlio, perché il figlio di questa serva non dev'essere erede con mio figlio, con Isacco».

So Sarah said to Abraham, “Put this woman servant and her son out of your home. The son of this woman servant will never get any of the riches of the family as will my son Isaac.”

11 L a cosa dispiacque grandemente ad Abrahamo, a motivo di suo figlio.

And the thing brought much sorrow to Abraham because of his son.

12 M a DIO disse ad Abrahamo: «Non essere addolorato a motivo del ragazzo e della tua serva; dà ascolto a tutto quello che Sara ti dice, perché uscirà da Isacco la discendenza che porterà il tuo nome.

But God said to Abraham, “Do not be full of sorrow because of the boy and the woman who serves you. Listen to whatever Sarah tells you. For your children and all their children’s children after you will be given a name through Isaac.

13 M a anche del figlio di questa serva io farò una nazione, perché è tua discendenza».

But I will also make a nation of the son of the woman who serves you, because he is your son.”

14 A brahamo si levò al mattino presto, prese del pane e un otre d'acqua e li diede ad Agar; mise tutto sulle sue spalle e la mandò via assieme al fanciullo. Così ella partì e andò errando per il deserto di Beer-Sceba.

So Abraham got up early in the morning. He took bread and a leather bag of water, and gave it to Hagar, putting it on her shoulder. He gave her the boy, and sent her away. She left, and went from place to place in the desert in Beersheba.

15 Q uando l'acqua dell'otre finì, ella mise il fanciullo sotto un cespuglio.

When the water was gone, she put the boy under one of the bushes.

16 E andò a sedersi di fronte a lui, alla distanza di un tiro d'arco, perché diceva: «Non voglio vedere il fanciullo morire!». Così ella si sedette di fronte a lui e alzò la voce e pianse.

Then she sat down as far away from him as an arrow flies. For she said, “Do not let me see the boy die.” As she sat there, she cried a loud cry.

17 E DIO udì la voce del ragazzo; e l'angelo di DIO chiamò Agar dal cielo e le disse: «Che hai, Agar? Non temere, perché DIO ha udito la voce del ragazzo là dove si trova.

But God heard the voice of the boy. Then the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven, and said, “Why are you so troubled, Hagar? Do not be afraid. For God has heard the cry of the boy.

18 L evati, solleva il ragazzo e tienilo forte con la tua mano, perché io farò di lui una grande nazione».

Get up. Lift up the boy and hold him by the hand. For I will make a great nation of him.”

19 A llora DIO le aperse gli occhi ed ella vide un pozzo d'acqua; così andò a riempire d'acqua l'otre e diede da bere al ragazzo.

Then God opened Hagar’s eyes. And she saw a well of water. She went and filled the leather bag with water and gave the boy a drink.

20 E DIO fu col ragazzo; ed egli crebbe, abitò nel deserto e divenne un tiratore d'arco.

God was with the boy and he grew. He lived in the desert, and became very good in using the bow.

21 E gli abitò nel deserto di Paran e sua madre gli prese una moglie dal paese d'Egitto.

While living in the desert of Paran, his mother took a wife for him from the land of Egypt. The Agreement at Beersheba

22 I n quel tempo Abimelek, assieme a Pikol, capo del suo esercito, parlò ad Abrahamo, dicendo: «DIO è con te in tutto quello che fai;

At that time, Abimelech with Phicol, the head of his army, said to Abraham, “God is with you in all that you do.

23 O ra dunque giurami qui nel nome i Dio, che tu non ingannerai né me né i miei figli né i miei nipoti, ma che userai verso di me e verso il paese dove hai soggiornato come forestiero la stessa benevolenza che io ho usato verso di te».

So promise me here by God that you will not work against me, or my son, or any children after me. I have shown you kindness. So return kindness to me and to the land where you have come.”

24 A brahamo rispose: «Lo giuro»

Abraham said, “I promise.”

25 P oi Abrahamo rimproverò Abimelek a motivo di un pozzo d'acqua, di cui i servi di Abimelek si erano impadroniti.

But Abraham spoke to Abimelech about a well of water that the servants of Abimelech had taken.

26 A bimelek disse: «io non so chi abbia fatto questo; tu stesso non me lo hai fatto sapere e io non ne ho sentito parlare che oggi».

Abimelech said, “I do not know who did this. You never told me. And I did not hear about it until today.”

27 A llora Abrahamo prese pecore e buoi e li diede ad Abimelek; e i due fecero alleanza.

So Abraham took sheep and cattle and gave them to Abimelech. Then the two men made an agreement.

28 P oi Abrahamo mise da parte sette agnelle del gregge.

Abraham set seven lambs of the flock away from the others.

29 E Abimelek disse ad Abrahamo: «Che vogliono dire queste sette agnelle che tu hai messo da parte?».

Abimelech said to Abraham, “What do these seven lambs that you have set apart mean?”

30 A brahamo rispose: «Tu accetterai dalla mia mano queste sette agnelle, perché ciò mi serva da testimonianza che io ho scavato questo pozzo».

Abraham said, “Take these seven lambs from me as an agreement to me that I dug this well.”

31 P erciò egli chiamò quel luogo Beer-Sceba, perché là avevano fatto ambedue giuramento.

So he gave that place the name Beersheba because both of them made a promise there.

32 C osì fecero alleanza a Beer-Sceba. Poi Abimelek e Pikol, capo del suo esercito, si alzarono e se ne tornarono nel paese dei Filistei.

So they made an agreement at Beersheba. Then Abimelech and Phicol, the head of his army, returned to the land of the Philistines.

33 P oi Abrahamo piantò un tamarisco a Beer-Sceba e là invocò il nome dell'Eterno, il Dio d'eternità.

Abraham planted a tree at Beersheba. He called there on the name of the Lord, the God Who lives forever.

34 A brahamo soggiornò come forestiero molto tempo nel paese dei Filistei.

And Abraham stayed in the land of the Philistines for many days.
