1 P oi, chiamati insieme i suoi dodici discepoli, diede loro potere ed autorità sopra tutti i demoni e di guarire le malattie.

Jesus called His twelve followers to Him. He gave them the right and the power over all demons and to heal diseases.

2 E li mandò a predicare il regno di Dio e a guarire i malati.

He sent them to preach about the holy nation of God and to heal the sick.

3 E disse loro: «Non prendete nulla per il viaggio: né bastoni, né sacca, né pane, né denari, e non abbiate due tuniche ciascuno.

Then He said to them, “Take nothing along for the trip. Do not take a walking stick or a bag or bread or money. Do not take two coats.

4 I n qualunque casa entrerete, là rimanete e da quella ripartite.

Whatever house you go into, stay there until you are ready to go on.

5 S e poi alcuni non vi ricevono, uscendo da quella città, scuotete anche la polvere dai vostri piedi, in testimonianza contro di loro».

If anyone will not take you in, as you leave that city, shake its dust off your feet. That will speak against them.”

6 A llora essi partirono e andavano per i villaggi; evangelizzando e operando guarigioni dovunque.

They went out, going from town to town. They preached the Good News and healed the sick everywhere. John the Baptist Is Killed

7 O r Erode, il tetrarca, sentí parlare di tutte le cose fatte da Gesú e ne era perplesso, perché alcuni dicevano che Giovanni era risuscitato dai morti,

Now Herod the leader heard of all that had been done by Jesus. He was troubled because some people said that John the Baptist had been raised from the dead.

8 a ltri invece che Elia era apparso, e altri ancora che era risuscitato uno degli antichi profeti.

Some people said that Elijah had come back. Others thought one of the early preachers had been raised from the dead.

9 M a Erode disse: «Giovanni l'ho decapitato io; chi è dunque costui del quale sento dire tali cose?». E cercava di vederlo

Then Herod said, “I had John’s head cut off. But who is this Man that I hear these things about?” He wanted to see Jesus. The Feeding of the Five Thousand

10 Q uando gli apostoli ritornarono, raccontarono a Gesú tutte le cose che avevano fatto. Allora egli li prese con sé e si ritirò in disparte in un luogo deserto di una città, detta Betsaida.

The twelve followers came back. They told Jesus what they had done. Jesus took them to a desert near the town of Bethsaida. There they could be alone.

11 M a quando le folle lo vennero a sapere, lo seguirono; ed egli le accolse e parlava loro del regno di Dio, e guariva coloro che avevano bisogno di guarigione.

When the people knew where Jesus was, they followed Him. Jesus was happy to see them and talked to them about the holy nation of God. He healed all who were sick.

12 O r il giorno cominciava a declinare; e i dodici, accostatisi, gli dissero: «Congeda la folla, perché se ne vada per i villaggi e per le campagne d'intorno a trovare alloggio e nutrimento perché qui siamo in un luogo deserto».

When the day was about over, the twelve followers came to Jesus. They said, “Send these many people away so they can go to the towns and country near here. There they can find a place to sleep and get food. We are here in a desert.”

13 M a egli disse loro: «Date voi ad essi da mangiare». Essi risposero: «Noi non abbiamo altro che cinque pani e due pesci, a meno che andiamo noi stessi a comprare dei viveri per tutta questa gente»

But Jesus said to them, “Give them something to eat.” They said, “We have only five loaves of bread and two fish. Are we to go and buy food for all these people?”

14 E rano infatti circa cinquemila uomini. Ma egli disse ai suoi discepoli: «Fateli accomodare a gruppi di cinquanta».

There were about five thousand men. Jesus said to His followers, “Have them sit down in groups of fifty people.”

15 E ssi fecero cosí e fecero accomodare tutti.

They did as He told them. They made all of the people sit down.

16 E gli allora prese i cinque pani e i due pesci e, alzati gli occhi al cielo, li benedisse, li spezzò e li diede ai suoi discepoli, perché li distribuissero alla folla.

As Jesus took the five loaves of bread and two fish, He looked up to heaven and gave thanks. He broke them in pieces and gave them to His followers to give to the people.

17 E tutti mangiarono e furono saziati; e dei pezzi avanzati ne raccolsero dodici ceste.

They all ate and were filled. They picked up twelve baskets full of pieces of bread and fish after the people finished eating. Peter Says Jesus Is the Christ

18 O r avvenne che, mentre egli si trovava in disparte a pregare, i discepoli erano con lui. Ed egli li interrogò, dicendo: «Chi dicono le folle che io sia?».

While Jesus was praying alone, His followers were with Him. Jesus asked them, “Who do people say that I am?”

19 E d essi, rispondendo, dissero: «Alcuni dicono Giovanni Battista altri Elia ed altri uno degli antichi profeti che è risuscitato».

They said, “John the Baptist, but some say Elijah. Others say that one of the early preachers has been raised from the dead.”

20 E d egli disse loro: «E voi chi dite che io sia?». Pietro allora, rispondendo, disse: «Il Cristo di Dio».

Jesus said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter said, “You are the Christ of God.” Jesus Tells of His Death for the First Time

21 A llora egli ingiunse loro severamente e comandò di non dirlo ad alcuno

Then Jesus spoke to them and told them to tell no one.

22 d icendo: «E' necessario che il Figlio dell'uomo soffra molte cose, sia rigettato dagli anziani, dai capi dei sacerdoti e dagli scribi, sia ucciso e risusciti il terzo giorno».

He said, “The Son of Man must suffer many things. The leaders and the religious leaders and the teachers of the Law will have nothing to do with Him. He must be killed and be raised from the dead three days later.” Giving Up Self and One’s Own Desires

23 P oi disse a tutti: «Se qualcuno vuol venire dietro a me, rinneghi se stesso, prenda ogni giorno la sua croce e mi segua.

Then Jesus said to them all, “If anyone wants to follow Me, he must give up himself and his own desires. He must take up his cross everyday and follow Me.

24 P erché chi vorrà salvare la sua vita, la perderà; ma chi perderà la sua vita per causa mia, la salverà.

If anyone wants to keep his own life safe, he must lose it. If anyone gives up his life because of Me, he will save it.

25 C he giova infatti all'uomo guadagnare tutto il mondo, se poi rovina se stesso e va in perdizione?

For what does a man have if he gets all the world and loses or gives up his life?

26 P erché, se uno ha vergogna di me e delle mie parole, anche il Figlio dell'uomo avrà vergogna di lui, quando verrà nella gloria sua e del Padre e dei santi angeli.

Whoever is ashamed of Me and My Words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when He comes in His own shining-greatness and of the Father’s and of the holy angels.

27 O r io vi dico in verità che vi sono alcuni qui presenti che non gusteranno la morte, prima di aver visto il regno di Dio».

I tell you the truth, some standing here will not die until they see the holy nation of God.” A Look at What Jesus Will Be Like

28 O r avvenne che circa otto giorni dopo questi discorsi, egli prese con sé Pietro, Giovanni e Giacomo e salí sul monte per pregare.

About eight days after Jesus had said these things, He took Peter and James and John with Him. They went up on a mountain to pray.

29 E mentre egli pregava, l'aspetto del suo volto cambiò e la sua veste divenne candida e sfolgorante.

As Jesus prayed, He was changed in looks before them. His clothes became white and shining bright.

30 E d ecco, due uomini parlavano con lui; essi erano Mosé ed Elia,

Two men talked with Jesus. They were Moses and Elijah.

31 i quali, apparsi in gloria, parlavano della sua dipartita che stava per compiersi a Gerusalemme.

They looked like the shining-greatness of heaven as they talked about His death in Jerusalem which was soon to happen.

32 O r Pietro e i suoi compagni erano appesantiti dal sonno; ma, quando furono completamente svegli, videro la sua gloria e i due uomini che erano con lui.

But Peter and those with him had gone to sleep. When they woke up, they saw His shining-greatness and the two men who stood with Him.

33 E mentre questi si separavano da lui Pietro disse a Gesú: «Maestro, è bene per noi stare qui; facciamo dunque tre tende: una per te, una per Mosé e una per Elia»; ma egli non sapeva quello che diceva.

As the two men went from Jesus, Peter said to Him, “Teacher, it is good for us to be here. Let us build three tents to worship in. One will be for You. One will be for Moses. One will be for Elijah.” He did not know what he was saying.

34 E , mentre egli parlava cosí, venne una nuvola che li avvolse nella sua ombra; e i discepoli temettero, quando essi entrarono nella nuvola.

While he was talking, a cloud came over them. They were afraid as the cloud came in around them.

35 E una voce venne dalla nuvola dicendo: «Questi è il mio amato Figlio; ascoltatelo».

A voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My Son, the One I have chosen. Listen to Him!”

36 E , mentre quella voce parlava, Gesú si trovò tutto solo. Or essi tacquero, e in quei giorni non raccontarono nulla a nessuno di ciò che avevano visto.

When the voice was gone, Jesus was standing there alone. From that time on, they kept these things to themselves. They told no one what they had seen. A Boy with a Demon Is Healed

37 O r il giorno seguente, quando discesero dal monte, avvenne che una gran folla venne incontro a Gesú.

The next day they came down from the mountain and many people met Jesus.

38 E d ecco, un uomo fra la folla si mise a gridare, dicendo: «Maestro, ti prego, volgi lo sguardo su mio figlio perché è l'unico che ho.

A man from among the people cried out, “Teacher, I beg of You to look at my son. He is my only child.

39 E d ecco, uno spirito lo prende e subito egli grida; poi lo contorce e lo fa schiumare, e se ne va da lui a fatica, dopo averlo straziato.

See, a demon takes him and makes him cry out. It takes hold of him and makes him shake. Spit runs from his mouth. He has marks on his body from being hurt. The demon does not want to go from him.

40 I o ho pregato i tuoi discepoli di scacciarlo, ma non hanno potuto».

I begged Your followers to put the demon out, but they could not.”

41 E Gesú, rispondendo, disse: «O generazione incredula e perversa, fino a quando sarò con voi e vi sopporterò? Porta qui tuo figlio».

Then Jesus said, “You people of this day do not have faith. You turn from what is right! How long must I be with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring your son to Me.”

42 E mentre il fanciullo si avvicinava, il demone lo contorse e lo straziò. Ma Gesú sgridò lo spirito immondo, guarí il fanciullo e lo rese a suo padre.

While the boy was coming, the demon threw him down and made him lose the use of his mind for awhile. Jesus spoke sharp words to the demon. He healed the child and gave him back to his father. Jesus Tells of His Death the Second Time

43 E tutti rimasero sbalorditi della magnificenza di Dio. Ora, mentre tutti si meravigliavano per tutte le cose che Gesú faceva, egli disse ai suoi discepoli:

They were all surprised at the great power of God. They all were thinking about the special things Jesus had done. And Jesus said to His followers,

44 « Voi, riponete queste parole nei vostri orecchi, perché il Figlio dell'uomo sarà dato nelle mani degli uomini».

“Remember these words. For the Son of Man will be given over into the hands of men.”

45 M a essi non compresero questo parlare; ed era loro velato per cui non lo potevano intendere, e temevano di interrogarlo in merito a ciò che aveva detto.

They did not understand these words because it was hidden from them. They did not know what Jesus meant and were afraid to ask Him. Jesus Teaches about the Faith of a Child

46 P oi sorse fra loro una disputa: chi di loro fosse il maggiore.

The followers argued among themselves about which of them would be the greatest.

47 A llora Gesú, conoscendo il pensiero del loro cuore, prese un piccolo fanciullo e se lo pose accanto

Jesus knew what they were thinking. He put a child beside Him.

48 e disse loro: «Chi riceve questo piccolo fanciullo nel nome mio, riceve me e chi riceve me, riceve colui che mi ha mandato, perché chi è il piú piccolo di tutti voi, questi sarà grande».

He said to the followers, “Whoever receives this child in My name, receives Me. Whoever receives Me, receives Him Who sent Me. The one who is least among you is the one who is great.” The Sharp Words Against the Followers

49 O r Giovanni prese la parola e gli disse: «Maestro, noi abbiamo visto uno che scacciava i demoni nel tuo nome e glielo abbiamo proibito, perché non ti segue con noi».

John said, “Teacher, we saw someone putting out demons in Your name. We told him to stop because he was not following us.”

50 M a Gesú gli disse: «Non glielo proibite. perché chi non è contro di noi è per noi».

Jesus said to him, “Do not stop him. He who is not against us is for us.” Jesus and His Followers Leave Galilee

51 O r avvenne che, mentre si stava compiendo il tempo in cui egli doveva essere portato in cielo, egli diresse risolutamente la sua faccia per andare a Gerusalemme,

It was about time for Jesus to be taken up into heaven. He turned toward Jerusalem and was sure that nothing would stop Him from going.

52 e mandò dei messaggeri davanti a sé. Ed essi, partiti, entrarono in un villaggio dei Samaritani, per preparargli un alloggio.

He sent men on ahead of Him. They came to a town in Samaria. There they got things ready for Jesus.

53 M a quelli del villaggio non lo vollero ricevere, perché egli camminava con la faccia rivolta a Gerusalemme.

The people did not want Him there because they knew He was on His way to Jerusalem.

54 V isto ciò, i suoi discepoli Giacomo e Giovanni dissero: «Signore, vuoi che diciamo che scenda fuoco dal cielo e li consumi, come fece anche Elia?».

James and John, His followers, saw this. They said, “Lord, do You want us to speak so fire will come down from heaven and burn them up as Elijah did?”

55 M a egli si voltò verso di loro e li sgridò dicendo: «Voi non sapete di quale spirito siete;

Jesus turned and spoke sharp words to them. (He said, “You do not know what kind of spirit you have.

56 p oiché il Figlio dell'uomo non è venuto per distruggere le anime degli uomini, ma per salvarle». Poi andarono in un altro villaggio.

The Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives. He came to save them from the punishment of sin.” They went on their way to another town.) The Testing of Some Followers

57 O r avvenne che, mentre camminavano per la via, qualcuno gli disse: «Signore, io ti seguirò dovunque andrai».

As they were going on their way, a man said to Jesus, “Lord, I will follow You wherever You go.”

58 M a Gesú gli disse: «Le volpi hanno delle tane e gli uccelli del cielo dei nidi; ma il Figlio dell'uomo non ha dove posare il capo».

Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes. Birds of the sky have nests. The Son of Man has no place to put His head.”

59 P oi disse ad un altro: «Seguimi!». Ma quello rispose: «Signore, permettimi prima di andare a seppellire mio padre».

He said to another, “Follow Me.” But the man said, “Lord, let me go first and bury my father.”

60 G esú gli disse: «Lascia che i morti seppelliscano i loro morti, ma tu va' ad annunziare il regno di Dio».

Jesus said to him, “Let the people who are dead bury their own dead. You go and preach about the holy nation of God.”

61 A ncora un altro gli disse: «Signore io ti seguirò, ma permettimi prima di congedarmi da quelli di casa mia».

And another one said, “Lord, I will follow You, but first let me go and say good-bye to those at home.”

62 G esú gli disse: «Nessuno che ha messo la mano all'aratro e poi si volge indietro, è adatto per il regno di Dio».

Jesus said to him, “Anyone who puts his hand on a plow and looks back at the things behind is of no use in the holy nation of God.”
