1 E cco, la mano dell'Eterno non è troppo corta per salvare, né il suo orecchio troppo duro per udire.

See, the Lord’s hand is not so short that it cannot save, and His ear is not closed that it cannot hear.

2 M a le vostre iniquità hanno prodotto una separazione fra voi e il vostro DIO e i vostri peccati hanno fatto nascondere la sua faccia da voi, per non darvi ascolto.

But your wrong-doings have kept you away from your God. Your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He does not hear.

3 P oiché le vostre mani sono contaminate di sangue e le vostre dita di iniquità; le vostre labbra proferiscono menzogna, la vostra lingua sussurra perversità.

For your hands are sinful with blood, your fingers with wrong-doing, your lips have lied, and your tongue talks about sin.

4 N essuno muove causa con giustizia nessuno la difende con verità; hanno fiducia nelle parole vuote e dicono il falso, concepiscono il male e partoriscono l'iniquità.

No one wants what is right and fair in court. And no one argues his cause with the truth. They trust in what is false, and speak lies. They plan to make trouble and do what is sinful.

5 F anno schiudere uova di vipera e tessono tele di ragno; chi mangia delle loro uova muore, e dall'uovo schiacciato esce fuori una vipera.

They bring young ones from the eggs of deadly snakes and make traps as a spider does. He who eats of their eggs dies, and a snake comes out of the egg that is crushed.

6 L e loro tele non diventeranno vestiti né si copriranno con ciò che hanno fatto. Le loro opere sono opere d'iniquità e nelle loro mani vi sono atti di violenza.

Clothing cannot be made from the work of the spider, so they cannot cover themselves with what they make. Their works are works of sin. They hurt others with their hands.

7 I loro piedi corrono al male e si affrettano a versare sangue innocente; i loro pensieri sono pensieri d'iniquità sui loro sentieri c'è desolazione e distruzione.

And they are quick to sin and to kill people who are not guilty. Their thoughts are thoughts of sin. Wherever they go, they destroy and cause suffering.

8 L a via della pace non la conoscono e non c'è rettitudine nelle loro vie; rendono tortuosi i loro sentieri e chiunque vi cammina non conosce la pace.

They know nothing about peace, and there is nothing fair in their paths. Their roads are not straight. Whoever walks on them does not know peace.

9 P erciò la rettitudine è lontana da noi e la giustizia non giunge fino a noi; aspettavamo la luce, ecco invece le tenebre, lo splendore, invece camminiamo nell'oscurità.

So what is right and fair is far from us. What is right and good does not come to us. We hope for light, but see darkness. We hope for bright light, but we walk in the dark.

10 T astiamo la parete come i ciechi, camminiamo a tastoni come se fossimo privi di occhi; inciampiamo a mezzogiorno come al crepuscolo, in luoghi desolati siamo come morti.

We feel for the wall like blind men. We feel our way like those who have no eyes. We trip at noon as in the night. Among those who are strong, we are like dead men.

11 N oi tutti urliamo come orsi e continuiamo a gemere come colombe aspettiamo la rettitudine, ma essa non giunge; la salvezza, ma essa è lontana da noi.

All of us make noise like bears, and cry inside ourselves like doves. We hope for what is right and fair, but it is not there. We hope to be saved, but it is far from us.

12 P oiché le nostre trasgressioni si sono moltiplicate davanti a te e i nostri peccati testimoniano contro di noi, perché le nostre trasgressioni ci stanno davanti e le nostre colpe le conosciamo:

For we have done much wrong before You, and our sins speak against us. Our wrong-doing is with us, and we know our sins.

13 r ibellandoci e rinnegando l'Eterno ritraendoci dal seguire il nostro DIO parlando di oppressione e di rivolta concedendo e sussurrando in cuore parole di menzogna.

We have gone against the Lord and have acted as if we do not know Him. We have turned away from our God. We have made it hard for others. We have thought and spoken lying words from the heart.

14 L a rettitudine si è allontanata e la giustizia è rimasta lontana, perché la verità è venuta meno sulla piazza e l'equità non può entrarvi.

What is right and fair is turned back. What is right and good stands far away. Truth has fallen in the street, and what is right cannot come in.

15 C osí la verità è scomparsa, e chi si ritrae dal male si rende una facile preda. L'Eterno ha visto questo e gli è dispiaciuto che non vi sia piú rettitudine.

Yes, truth is not there. And he who turns away from sin comes under the anger of sinners. Now the Lord saw this, and it did not please Him to see that what is right and fair was not being done.

16 E gli ha visto che non c'era piú nessuno e si è stupito che nessuno intercedesse; allora il suo braccio gli è venuto in aiuto e la sua giustizia lo ha sostenuto,

He saw and wondered that there was no man to speak up for what is right. Then His own arm brought saving power, and what is right with Him gave Him strength.

17 s i è rivestito di giustizia come di una corazza e si è posto in capo l'elmo della salvezza, ha indossato gli abiti della vendetta e si è ricoperto di gelosia come di un manto.

Being right and good was His covering for His breast, saving power was His headcovering, clothing of anger was his covering, and His strong desires were like a coat.

18 E gli renderà a ciascuno secondo le sue opere; il furore ai suoi avversari, la ricompensa ai suoi nemici, alle isole darà una retribuzione piena.

He will pay them back for their works. He will send anger upon those who are against Him, and will punish those who hate Him. He will send punishment on the islands.

19 C osí si temerà il nome dell'Eterno dall'ovest, e la sua gloria dall'est; quando l'avversario verrà come una fiumana, lo Spirito dell'Eterno alzerà contro di lui una bandiera.

They will fear the name of the Lord from the west, and His shining-greatness from the rising of the sun. When the one who hates us comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a wall against him.

20 « Un redentore, verrà a Sion e per quelli convertiti dalla loro ribellione in Giacobbe», dice l'Eterno.

“The One Who saves from the punishment of sin will come to Zion, and He will come to those of Jacob who turn from their sinful ways,” says the Lord.

21 « Quanto a me, questo è il mio patto con loro», dice l'Eterno: «Il mio Spirito che è su di te, e le mie parole che ho posto nella tua bocca non si allontaneranno mai dalla tua bocca né dalla bocca della tua progenie né dalla bocca della progenie della tua progenie», dice l'Eterno, «da ora e per sempre».

“And as for Me, this is My agreement with them,” says the Lord. “My Spirit which is upon you, and My Words which I have put in your mouth, will not leave your mouth, or the mouth of your children, or the mouth of your children’s children,” say the Lord, “from now and forever.”
