1 A llora si riunirono intorno a lui i farisei e alcuni scribi venuti da Gerusalemme.

The proud religious law-keepers and some of the teachers of the Law had come from Jerusalem. They gathered around Jesus.

2 E , avendo visto che alcuni dei suoi discepoli mangiavano il cibo con le mani impure, cioè non lavate, li accusarono.

They had seen some of His followers eat bread without washing their hands.

3 I nfatti i farisei e tutti i Giudei non mangiano se non si sono prima lavate le mani con gran cura, attenendosi alla tradizione degli anziani;

The proud religious law-keepers and all the Jews never eat until they wash their hands. They keep the teaching that was given to them by their early fathers.

4 e , quando tornano dalla piazza, non mangiano senza prima essersi purificati. Ci sono molte altre cose, che sono tenuti ad osservare per tradizione: lavatura di coppe, di brocche, di vasi di rame e di letti.

When they come from the stores, they never eat until they wash. There are many other teachings they keep. Some are the washing of cups and pots and pans in a special way.

5 P oi i farisei e gli scribi gli domandarono: «Perché i tuoi discepoli non si comportano secondo la tradizione degli anziani, ma prendono il cibo senza lavarsi le mani?».

Then the proud religious law-keepers and the teachers of the Law asked Jesus, “Why do Your followers not obey the teaching given to them by their early fathers? They eat bread without washing their hands.”

6 M a egli, rispondendo, disse loro: «Ben profetizzò Isaia di voi, ipocriti, come sta scritto: "Questo popolo mi onora con le labbra, ma il loro cuore è lontano da me.

He said to them, “Isaiah told about you who pretend to be someone you are not. Isaiah wrote, ‘These people honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me.

7 M a invano mi rendono un culto, insegnando dottrine che sono precetti di uomini"

Their worship of Me is worth nothing. They teach what men say must be done.’

8 T rascurando infatti il comandamento di Dio, vi attenete alla tradizione degli uomini: lavatura di brocche e di coppe; e fate molte altre cose simili».

You put away the Laws of God and obey the laws made by men.”

9 D isse loro ancora: «Voi siete abili nell'annullare il comandamento di Dio, per osservare la vostra tradizione.

Jesus said to them, “You put away the Laws of God but keep your own teaching.

10 M osé infatti ha detto: "onora tuo padre e tua madre" e: "chi maledice il padre o la madre sia messo a morte".

Moses said, ‘Respect your father and mother.’ ‘He who curses his father and mother will be put to death!’

11 M a voi dite: "Se un uomo dice a suo padre o a sua madre: Tutto quello con cui potrei assisterti è Corban cioè un'offerta a Dio",

But you say that it is right if a man does not help his father and mother because he says he has given to God what he could have given to them.

12 n on gli lasciate piú far nulla per suo padre o per sua madre,

You are not making him do anything for his father and mother.

13 a nnullando cosí la parola di Dio con la vostra tradizione, che voi avete tramandata. E fate molte altre cose simili».

You are putting away the Word of God to keep your own teaching. You are doing many other things like this.”

14 P oi, chiamata a sé tutta la folla, disse loro: «Ascoltatemi tutti ed intendete:

Jesus called the people to Him again. He said, “Listen to Me, all of you, and understand this.

15 N on c'è nulla di esterno all'uomo che, entrando in lui, possa contaminarlo; sono invece le cose che escono da lui che lo contaminano.

It is not what goes into a man’s mouth from the outside that makes his mind and heart sinful. It is what comes out from the inside that makes him sinful.

16 C hi ha orecchi da udire, oda!».

You have ears, then listen!”

17 Q uando poi egli fu rientrato in casa, lontano dalla folla, i suoi discepoli lo interrogarono sul significato della parabola.

He went into the house away from all the people. His followers began to ask about the picture-story.

18 E d egli disse loro: «Siete anche voi cosí privi d'intelligenza? Non capite voi che tutto ciò che dal di fuori entra nell'uomo non può contaminarlo,

He said to them, “Do you not understand yet? Do you not understand that whatever goes into a man cannot make him sinful?

19 p erché non entra nel suo cuore, ma nel ventre, e poi se ne va nella fogna?». Cosí dicendo, dichiarava puri tutti gli alimenti.

It does not go into his heart, but into his stomach and then on out of his body.” In this way, He was saying that all food is clean.

20 D isse ancora: «Ciò che esce dall'uomo, quello lo contamina.

He said, “Whatever comes out of a man is what makes the man sinful.

21 D al di dentro infatti, cioè dal cuore degli uomini, procedono pensieri malvagi, adultéri, fornicazioni, omicidi,

From the inside, out of the heart of men come bad thoughts, sex sins of a married person, sex sins of a person not married, killing other people,

22 f urti, cupidigie, malizie, frodi, insolenza, invidia, bestemmia, orgoglio, stoltezza.

stealing, wanting something that belongs to someone else, doing wrong, lying, having a desire for sex sins, having a mind that is always looking for sin, speaking against God, thinking you are better than you are and doing foolish things.

23 T utte queste cose malvagie escono dal di dentro dell'uomo e lo contaminano».

All these bad things come from the inside and make the man sinful.” Jesus Puts a Demon out of a Girl

24 P oi partí di là e andò nel territorio di Tiro e di Sidone, entrò in una casa e non voleva che alcuno lo sapesse, ma non potè restare nascosto.

Jesus went from their towns and cities to the cities of Tyre and Sidon. He went into a house and wanted to stay there without people knowing where He was. But He could not hide Himself.

25 I nfatti una donna, la cui figlia aveva uno spirito immondo, avendo sentito parlare di Gesú, venne e gli si gettò ai piedi.

A woman who had a daughter with a demon heard of Him. She came and got down at His feet.

26 O r quella donna era greca, sirofenicia di origine, e lo pregava di scacciare il demone da sua figlia;

The woman was not a Jew. She was from the country of Syrophenicia. She asked Jesus if He would put the demon out of her daughter.

27 m a Gesú le disse: «Lascia che si sazino prima i figli, perché non è bene prendere il pane dei figli e gettarlo ai cagnolini».

Jesus said to her, “Let the children have what they want first. It is wrong to take children’s food and throw it to the dogs.”

28 M a ella rispose e gli disse: «Dici bene, o Signore, ma anche i cagnolini sotto la tavola mangiano delle briciole dei figli».

She said to Him, “Yes, Lord, but even the dogs eat the pieces that fall from the children’s table.”

29 A llora egli le disse: «Per questa tua parola, va il demone è uscito da tua figlia».

He said to her, “Because of what you have said, go your way. The demon is gone out of your daughter.”

30 E d ella, tornata a casa sua, trovò la figlia coricata a letto, e il demone era uscito da lei.

So she went to her house and found the demon was gone and her daughter was lying on the bed. Jesus Heals the Man Who Could Not Hear or Speak Well

31 P oi Gesú, partito di nuovo dal territorio di Tiro e di Sidone, giunse al mare di Galilea, in mezzo al territorio della Decapoli.

Then Jesus left the cities of Tyre and Sidon. He came back to the Sea of Galilee by way of the land of Decapolis.

32 E gli presentarono un sordo che parlava a stento, pregandolo di imporgli le mani.

They took a man to Him who could not hear or speak well. They asked Jesus to put His hand on him.

33 E d egli, condottolo in disparte, lontano dalla folla, gli mise le dita negli orecchi e, dopo aver sputato, gli toccò la lingua.

Jesus took him away from the other people. He put His fingers into the man’s ears. He spit and put His finger on the man’s tongue.

34 P oi, alzati gli occhi al cielo, sospirò e gli disse: «Effata», che vuol dire: «Apriti!».

Then Jesus looked up to heaven and breathed deep within. He said to the man, “Be opened!”

35 E subito gli si aprirono gli orecchi si sciolse il nodo della sua lingua e parlava distintamente.

At once his ears were opened. His tongue was made loose and he spoke as other people.

36 E Gesú ordinò loro di non dirlo a nessuno; ma quanto piú lo vietava loro, tanto piú essi lo divulgavano.

Then Jesus told them they should tell no one. The more He told them this, the more they told what He had done.

37 E , pieni di stupore, dicevano: «Egli ha fatto bene ogni cosa: egli fa udire i sordi e parlare i muti!».

They were very much surprised and wondered about it. They said, “He has done all things well. He makes those who could not hear so they can hear. He makes those who could not speak so they can speak.”
