1 D opo queste cose, Davide sconfisse i Filistei e li umiliò, e Davide tolse di mano ai Filistei la loro piú importante città.

After this David won the battle against the Philistines. And he took the most important city from the Philistines.

2 S confisse pure i Moabiti e li misurò con la corda, dopo averli fatti coricare per terra. Con due corde misurò quelli che dovevano essere messi a morte, e con una corda completa quelli da lasciare in vita. Cosí i Moabiti divennero sudditi e tributari di Davide.

He won the battle against Moab, and had them lie down on the ground in straight groups. Two groups were put to death, and one group was kept alive. The Moabites became servants to David and paid taxes to him.

3 D avide sconfisse anche Hadadezer, figlio di Rehob re di Tsobah, mentre egli andava a ristabilire il suo dominio lungo il fiume Eufrate.

Then David won the battle against Hadadezer the son of Rehob king of Zobah, as he went to get his power again at the Euphrates River.

4 D avide gli prese millesettecento cavalieri e ventimila fanti. Davide tagliò pure i garetti a tutti i cavalli, ma ne risparmiò abbastanza per cento carri.

David took 1, 700 horsemen and 20, 000 foot soldiers from him. He cut the legs of some of the war-wagon horses, but saved enough of them for 100 war-wagons.

5 Q uando i Siri di Damasco vennero per soccorrere Hadadezer, re di Tsobah, Davide ne uccise ventiduemila.

When the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David killed 22, 000 of them.

6 P oi Davide mise delle guarnigioni nella Siria di Damasco e i Siri divennero sudditi e tributari di Davide; l'Eterno proteggeva Davide dovunque egli andava.

Then he put groups of soldiers in Damascus of Syria. The Syrians became servants to David and were made to pay taxes to him. The Lord helped David every place he went.

7 D avide prese gli scudi d'oro che i servi di Hadadezer avevano con sé e li portò a Gerusalemme.

David took the coverings of gold which were carried by Hadadezer’s army, and brought them to Jerusalem.

8 I l re Davide prese anche una grande quantità di bronzo a Betah e a Berothai città di Hadadezer.

And he took a very large amount of brass from Hadadezer’s cities, Betah and Berothai.

9 Q uando Toi, re di Hamath, venne a sapere che Davide aveva sconfitto tutto l'esercito di Hadadezer

Now Toi king of Hamath heard that David had won the battle against the whole army of Hadadezer.

10 m andò al re Davide Joram, suo figlio, per salutarlo e per benedirlo, perché aveva mosso guerra a Hadadezer e l'aveva sconfitto. Hadadezer infatti era sempre in guerra con Toi, Joram portò con sé vasi d'argento, vasi d'oro e vasi di bronzo.

So Toi sent his son Joram to King David, to greet him and pray that good would come to him, because David had fought against Hadadezer and had won. Hadadezer had been at war with Toi. Joram brought with him objects of silver, gold and brass.

11 I l re Davide consacrò anche questi all'Eterno, come aveva già consacrato l'argento e l'oro proveniente dalle nazioni che aveva soggiogato:

David set these apart to the Lord, together with the silver and gold he had set apart from all the nations he had taken in battle.

12 d ai Siri, dai Moabiti, dagli Ammoniti, dai Filistei, dagli Amalekiti e dal bottino di Hadadezer, figlio di Rehob, re di Tsobah.

He had taken silver and gold from Syria, Moab, the sons of Ammon, the Philistines, Amalek, and from the things taken from Hadadezer the son of Rehob, king of Zobah.

13 D avide si fece un nome quando ritornò, dopo aver sconfitto diciottomila Siri nella valle del Sale.

So David’s name was very respected when he returned from killing 18, 000 Syrians in the Valley of Salt.

14 P ose delle guarnigioni anche in Idumea; ne mise per tutta l'Idumea e tutti gli Edomiti divennero sudditi di Davide e l'Eterno proteggeva Davide dovunque egli andava.

And he put groups of soldiers in Edom. In all Edom he put soldiers, and all the Edomites became servants to David. The Lord helped David every place he went.

15 C osì Davide regnò su tutto Israele, pronunciando giudizi e amministrando la giustizia a tutto il suo popolo.

So David ruled all of Israel. He did what was right and good and fair for all his people.

16 J oab, figlio di Tseruiah, era capo dell'esercito; Giosafat, figlio di Ahilud, era archivista;

Joab the son of Zeruiah was the head of the army. Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud wrote down the important things of the nation.

17 T sadok, figlio di Ahitub, e Ahimelek, figlio di Abiathar, erano sacerdoti; Seraiah era segretario;

Ahitub’s son Zadok and Abiathar’s son Ahimelech were religious leaders. Seraiah was the writer.

18 B enaiah, figlio di Jehoiada, era capo dei Kerethei e dei Pelethei, e i figli di Davide erano ministri.

Benaiah the son of Jehoiada ruled the Cherethites and the Pelethites. And David’s sons were the king’s helpers.
