1 P erciò bisogna che ci atteniamo maggiormente alle cose udite, che talora non finiamo fuori strada.

That is why we must listen all the more to the truths we have been told. If we do not, we may slip away from them.

2 S e infatti la parola pronunziata per mezzo degli angeli fu ferma e ogni trasgressione e disubbidienza ricevette una giusta retribuzione,

These truths given by the angels proved to be true. People were punished when they did not obey them.

3 c ome scamperemo noi, se trascuriamo una cosí grande salvezza? Questa, dopo essere stata inizialmente annunziata dal Signore, è stata confermata a noi da coloro che l'avevano udita,

God was so good to make a way for us to be saved from the punishment of sin. What makes us think we will not go to hell if we do not take the way to heaven that He has made for us? The Lord was the first to tell us of this. Then those who heard Him told it later.

4 m entre Dio ne rendeva testimonianza con segni e prodigi, con diverse potenti operazioni e con doni dello Spirito Santo distribuiti secondo la sua volontà.

God proved what they said was true by showing us special things to see and by doing powerful works. He gave the gifts of the Holy Spirit as He wanted to. Jesus, the Way to Heaven

5 I nfatti non è agli angeli che egli ha sottoposto il mondo a venire, del quale parliamo,

God did not make angels to be the leaders of that world to come which we have been speaking about.

6 m a qualcuno ha testimoniato in un certo luogo, dicendo: «Che cosa è l'uomo, perché tu ti ricordi di lui, o il figlio dell'uomo perché lo consideri?

Instead, the Holy Writings say, “What is man that You think of him and the son of man that You should remember him?”

7 T u lo hai fatto per un po' di tempo inferiore agli angeli, tu lo hai coronato di gloria e di onore e lo hai costituito sopra le opere delle tue mani;

“You made him so he took a place that was not as important as the angels for a little while. You gave him the crown of honor and shining-greatness. You made him the head over everything You have made.

8 t u gli hai posto tutte le cose sotto i piedi». Infatti, nel sottoporgli tutte le cose non ha lasciato nulla che non gli fosse sottoposto. Tuttavia al presente non vediamo ancora che tutte le cose gli sono sottoposte,

You have put everything under his feet.” There is nothing that does not obey him, but we do not see all things obey him yet.

9 m a vediamo coronato di gloria e d'onore per la morte che sofferse, Gesú, che è stato fatto per un po' di tempo inferiore agli angeli, affinché per la grazia di Dio gustasse la morte per tutti.

But we do see Jesus. For a little while He took a place that was not as important as the angels. But God had loving-favor for everyone. He had Jesus suffer death on a cross for all of us. Then, because of Christ’s death on a cross, God gave Him the crown of honor and shining-greatness.

10 C onveniva infatti a colui, per il quale e per mezzo del quale sono tutte le cose, nel portare molti figli alla gloria, di rendere perfetto per mezzo di sofferenze l'autore della salvezza.

God made all things. He made all things for Himself. It was right for God to make Jesus a perfect Leader by having Him suffer for men’s sins. In this way, He is bringing many men to share His shining-greatness.

11 I nfatti colui che santifica e quelli che sono santificati provengono tutti da uno per questo motivo egli non si vergogna di chiamarli fratelli,

Jesus makes men holy. He takes away their sins. Both Jesus and the ones being made holy have the same Father. That is why Jesus is not ashamed to call them His brothers.

12 d icendo «Farò conoscere il tuo nome ai miei fratelli, io ti celebrerò in mezzo all'assemblea».

Jesus is saying to His Father, “I will tell My brothers Your name. I will sing songs of thanks for You among the people.”

13 E di nuovo: «Io confiderò in lui». E ancora: «Ecco me e i figli che Dio mi ha dato».

And again He says, “I will put My trust in God.” At another time He said, “Here I am with the children God gave Me.”

14 P oiché dunque i figli hanno in comune la carne e il sangue, similmente anch'egli ebbe in comune le stesse cose, per distruggere, mediante la sua morte colui che ha l'impero della morte, cioè il diavolo,

It is true that we share the same Father with Jesus. And it is true that we share the same kind of flesh and blood because Jesus became a man like us. He died as we must die. Through His death He destroyed the power of the devil who has the power of death.

15 e liberare tutti quelli che per timore della morte erano tenuti in schiavitú per tutta la loro vita.

Jesus did this to make us free from the fear of death. We no longer need to be chained to this fear.

16 I nfatti egli non si prende cura degli angeli, ma si prende cura della progenie di Abrahamo.

Jesus did not come to help angels. Instead, He came to help men who are of Abraham’s family.

17 E gli doveva perciò essere in ogni cosa reso simile ai fratelli, perché potesse essere un misericordioso e fedele sommo sacerdote nelle cose che riguardano Dio, per fare l'espiazione dei peccati del popolo.

So Jesus had to become like His brothers in every way. He had to be one of us to be our Religious Leader to go between God and us. He had loving-pity on us and He was faithful. He gave Himself as a gift to die on a cross for our sins so that God would not hold these sins against us any longer.

18 I nfatti, poiché egli stesso ha sofferto quando è stato tentato, può venire in aiuto di coloro che sono tentati.

Because Jesus was tempted as we are and suffered as we do, He understands us and He is able to help us when we are tempted.
