1 E Gesú, riprendendo la parola, di nuovo parlò loro in parabole dicendo:

Again Jesus spoke to them in picture-stories. He said,

2 « Il regno dei cieli è simile a un re, il quale preparò le nozze di suo figlio.

“The holy nation of heaven is like a king who gave a wedding supper for his son.

3 E mandò i suoi servi a chiamare gli invitati alle nozze, ma questi non vollero venire.

He sent his servants to tell the people, who had been asked, to come to the supper. But the people did not want to come.

4 D i nuovo mandò altri servi dicendo: "Dite agl'invitati: Ecco, io ho apparecchiato il mio pranzo, i miei vitelli e i miei animali ingrassati sono ammazzati ed è tutto pronto; venite alle nozze".

“He sent other servants, saying to them, ‘Tell those who have been asked to come, “See! My supper is ready. My cows and fat calves are killed. Everything is ready. Come to the wedding supper!”’

5 M a essi, non curandosene, se ne andarono chi al proprio campo, chi ai propri affari.

But they did not listen and went on working. One went to his farm. Another went to his store.

6 E gli altri, presi i suoi servi, li oltraggiarono e li uccisero.

The others took hold of his servants, and hurt them and killed them.

7 I l re allora, udito ciò, si adirò e mandò i suoi eserciti per sterminare quegli omicidi e per incendiare la loro città.

“When the king heard this, he was very angry. He sent his soldiers to put those to death who had killed his servants. He burned their city.

8 D isse quindi ai suoi servi: "Le nozze sono pronte, ma gl'invitati non ne erano degni.

Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding supper is ready. Those who were asked to come to the supper were not good enough.

9 A ndate dunque agli incroci delle strade e chiamate alle nozze chiunque troverete

Go out into the roads and as many people as you can find, ask them to come to the wedding supper.’

10 E quei servi, usciti per le strade, radunarono tutti coloro che trovarono cattivi e buoni, e la sala delle nozze si riempí di commensali.

“The servants went out into the roads and brought all they could find, both bad and good. The wedding supper room was full of people.

11 O ra il re, entrato per vedere i commensali, vi trovò un uomo che non indossava l'abito da nozze;

The king came in to see those who had come. He saw one man who did not have on wedding supper clothes.

12 e gli disse: "amico come sei entrato qui senza avere l'abito da nozze?" E quegli rimase con la bocca chiusa.

He said to him, ‘Friend, how did you get in here without wedding supper clothes?’ The man could not speak!

13 A llora il re disse ai servi: "Legatelo mani e piedi, prendetelo e gettatelo nelle tenebre di fuori. Lí sarà il pianto e lo stridor di denti.

Then the king said to his servants, ‘Tie his hands and feet, and throw him out into the darkness. In that place there will be loud crying and grinding of teeth.’

14 P oiché molti sono chiamati, ma pochi eletti».

For many are called but few are chosen.” The Proud Religious Law-Keepers Try to Trap Jesus

15 A llora i farisei, allontanatisi, si consigliarono sul modo di coglierlo in fallo nelle parole,

Then the proud religious law-keepers got together to think how they could trap Jesus in His talk.

16 E gli mandarono i propri discepoli, con gli erodiani, per dirgli: «Maestro, noi sappiamo che tu sei verace e che insegni la via di Dio in verità, senza preoccuparti del giudizio di alcuno, perché tu non riguardi all'apparenza delle persone.

They sent their followers to Jesus with some of King Herod’s men. They asked, “Teacher, we know that You are true. We know that You are teaching the truth about God. We know You are not afraid of what men think or say about You.

17 D icci dunque: Che te ne pare? è lecito o no pagare il tributo a Cesare?».

Tell us what You think of this. Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”

18 M a Gesú, conoscendo la loro malizia, disse: «Perché mi tentate, ipocriti?

Jesus knew their sinful thoughts and said, “You pretend to be someone you are not! Why do you try to trap Me?

19 M ostratemi la moneta del tributo». Allora essi gli presentarono un denaro.

Show Me a piece of money.” They brought Him a piece.

20 E d egli disse loro: «Di chi è questa immagine e questa iscrizione?».

Jesus said to them, “Whose picture is this? Whose name is on it?”

21 E ssi gli dissero: «Di Cesare». Allora egli disse loro: «Rendete dunque a Cesare ciò che è di Cesare e a Dio ciò che è di Dio».

They said to Him, “Caesar’s.” Then He said to them, “Pay to Caesar the things that belong to Caesar. Pay to God the things that belong to God.”

22 E d essi, udito ciò, si meravigliarono e, lasciatolo, se ne andarono.

When they heard this, they were surprised and wondered about it. Then they went away from Him. They Ask about Being Raised from the Dead

23 I n quello stesso giorno vennero da lui i sadducei, i quali dicono che non vi è risurrezione, e lo interrogarono,

The same day some people from the religious group who believe no one will be raised from the dead came to Jesus. They asked,

24 d icendo: «Maestro, Mosé ha detto: "se qualcuno muore senza avere figli, il suo fratello ne sposi la moglie, per dare una discendenza a suo fratello"

“Teacher, Moses said, ‘If a man should die without having children, then his brother must marry his wife. He should have children for his brother.’

25 O ra, c'erano tra noi sette fratelli, il primo dopo essersi sposato morí e, non avendo discendenza, lasciò la moglie a suo fratello.

There were seven brothers with us. The first was married but died before he had any children. The second brother then married the first brother’s wife.

26 C osí anche il secondo e il terzo, fino al settimo.

The second brother died and the same with the third and on to the seventh.

27 P er ultima, morí anche la donna.

Then the woman died also.

28 A lla risurrezione, dunque, di chi dei sette costei sarà moglie? Poiché tutti l'ebbero come moglie».

When people are raised from the dead, whose wife will she be of the seven? They all had her for a wife.”

29 M a Gesú, rispondendo, disse loro: «Voi sbagliate, non comprendendo né le Scritture né la potenza di Dio.

Jesus said to them, “You are wrong because you do not know the Holy Writings or the power of God.

30 N ella risurrezione, infatti, né si sposano né sono date in moglie, ma essi saranno in cielo come gli angeli di Dio.

After people are raised from the dead, they do not marry. They are like the angels in heaven.

31 Q uanto poi alla risurrezione dei morti, non avete letto ciò che vi fu detto da Dio, quando disse:

Have you not read what God said to you about those who are raised from the dead? He said,

32 I O sono il Dio di Abrahamo, il Dio d'Isacco e di Giacobbe Dio non è il Dio dei morti, ma dei viventi».

‘I am the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.’ He is not the God of the dead but of the living!”

33 E le folle, udite queste cose, stupivano della sua dottrina,

When the people heard this, they were surprised and wondered about His teaching. The Great Law

34 A llora i farisei, avendo udito che egli aveva messo a tacere i sadducei, si radunarono insieme.

The proud religious law-keepers got together when they heard that the religious group of people who believe no one will be raised from the dead were not able to talk anymore to Jesus.

35 E uno di loro, dottore della legge, lo interrogò per metterlo alla prova, dicendo:

A proud religious law-keeper who knew the Law tried to trap Jesus. He said,

36 « Maestro, qual è il grande comandamento della legge?».

“Teacher, which one is the greatest of the Laws?”

37 E Gesú gli disse: «"ama il Signore Dio tuo con tutto il tuo cuore, con tutta l'anima tua e con tutta la tua mente".

Jesus said to him, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’

38 Q uesto è il primo e il gran comandamento.

This is the first and greatest of the Laws.

39 E il secondo, simile a questo, è: "ama il tuo prossimo come te stesso".

The second is like it, ‘You must love your neighbor as you love yourself.’

40 D a questi due comandamenti dipendono tutta la legge e i profeti»,

All the Laws and the writings of the early preachers depend on these two most important Laws.”

41 O ra, essendo i farisei riuniti, Gesú chiese loro:

The proud religious law-keepers were gathered together. Then Jesus asked,

42 « Che ve ne pare del Cristo? Di chi è figlio?». Essi gli dissero: «Di Davide».

“What do you think about the Christ? Whose Son is He?” They said to Him, “The Son of David.”

43 E gli disse loro: «Come mai dunque Davide, per lo Spirito, lo chiama Signore, dicendo:

Jesus said to them, “Then how is it that David, being led by the Holy Spirit, calls Him ‘Lord’? He said,

44 I l Signore ha detto al mio Signore: "Siedi alla mia destra, finché io abbia posto i tuoi nemici come sgabello dei tuoi piedi"?

‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right side until I make those who hate You a place to rest Your feet.”’

45 S e dunque Davide lo chiama Signore, come può essere suo figlio?».

If David calls Him ‘Lord,’ then how can He be the Son of David?”

46 M a nessuno era in grado di rispondergli; e, da quel giorno, nessuno osò piú interrogarlo.

No one could answer a word, and after that day no one asked Him anything.
