1 J esús comenzó a hablarles otra vez en parábolas, diciendo:

Again Jesus spoke to them in picture-stories. He said,

2 “ El reino de los cielos puede compararse a un rey que hizo un banquete de bodas para su hijo.

“The holy nation of heaven is like a king who gave a wedding supper for his son.

3 Y envió a sus siervos a llamar a los que habían sido invitados a las bodas, pero no quisieron venir.

He sent his servants to tell the people, who had been asked, to come to the supper. But the people did not want to come.

4 D e nuevo envió otros siervos, diciéndo les: ‘Digan a los que han sido invitados: “Ya he preparado mi banquete; he matado mis novillos y animales cebados, y todo está preparado; vengan a las bodas.”’

“He sent other servants, saying to them, ‘Tell those who have been asked to come, “See! My supper is ready. My cows and fat calves are killed. Everything is ready. Come to the wedding supper!”’

5 P ero ellos no hicieron caso y se fueron: uno a su campo, otro a sus negocios,

But they did not listen and went on working. One went to his farm. Another went to his store.

6 y los demás, echando mano a los siervos, los maltrataron y los mataron.

The others took hold of his servants, and hurt them and killed them.

7 E ntonces el rey se enfureció, y enviando sus ejércitos, destruyó a aquellos asesinos e incendió su ciudad.

“When the king heard this, he was very angry. He sent his soldiers to put those to death who had killed his servants. He burned their city.

8 L uego dijo a sus siervos: ‘La boda está preparada, pero los que fueron invitados no eran dignos.

Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding supper is ready. Those who were asked to come to the supper were not good enough.

9 V ayan, por tanto, a las salidas de los caminos, e inviten a las bodas a cuantos encuentren.’

Go out into the roads and as many people as you can find, ask them to come to the wedding supper.’

10 A quellos siervos salieron por los caminos, y reunieron a todos los que encontraron, tanto malos como buenos; y el salón de bodas se llenó de invitados.

“The servants went out into the roads and brought all they could find, both bad and good. The wedding supper room was full of people.

11 “ Pero cuando el rey entró a ver a los invitados, vio allí a uno que no estaba vestido con traje de boda,

The king came in to see those who had come. He saw one man who did not have on wedding supper clothes.

12 y le dijo: ‘Amigo, ¿cómo entraste aquí sin traje de boda?’ Pero el hombre se quedó callado.

He said to him, ‘Friend, how did you get in here without wedding supper clothes?’ The man could not speak!

13 E l rey entonces dijo a los sirvientes: ‘Atenle las manos y los pies, y échenlo a las tinieblas de afuera; allí será el llanto y el crujir de dientes.’

Then the king said to his servants, ‘Tie his hands and feet, and throw him out into the darkness. In that place there will be loud crying and grinding of teeth.’

14 P orque muchos son llamados, pero pocos son escogidos.” El Pago del Impuesto al César

For many are called but few are chosen.” The Proud Religious Law-Keepers Try to Trap Jesus

15 E ntonces los Fariseos se fueron y deliberaron entre sí cómo atrapar a Jesús en alguna palabra que El dijera.

Then the proud religious law-keepers got together to think how they could trap Jesus in His talk.

16 Y los Fariseos enviaron algunos de sus discípulos junto con los partidarios de Herodes (Antipas), diciendo: “Maestro, sabemos que eres veraz y que enseñas el camino de Dios con verdad, y no buscas el favor de nadie, porque eres imparcial.

They sent their followers to Jesus with some of King Herod’s men. They asked, “Teacher, we know that You are true. We know that You are teaching the truth about God. We know You are not afraid of what men think or say about You.

17 D inos, pues, cuál es Tu opinión: ¿Está permitido pagar impuesto al César, o no?”

Tell us what You think of this. Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”

18 P ero Jesús, conociendo su malicia, dijo: “¿Por qué me ponen a prueba, hipócritas?

Jesus knew their sinful thoughts and said, “You pretend to be someone you are not! Why do you try to trap Me?

19 T raigan la moneda que se usa para pagar ese impuesto.” Y Le trajeron un denario (salario de un día).

Show Me a piece of money.” They brought Him a piece.

20 Y El les preguntó: “¿De quién es esta imagen y esta inscripción?”

Jesus said to them, “Whose picture is this? Whose name is on it?”

21 E llos le dijeron: “Del César.” Entonces El les dijo: “Pues den al César lo que es del César, y a Dios lo que es de Dios.”

They said to Him, “Caesar’s.” Then He said to them, “Pay to Caesar the things that belong to Caesar. Pay to God the things that belong to God.”

22 A l oír esto, se maravillaron; Lo dejaron y se fueron. Pregunta sobre la Resurrección

When they heard this, they were surprised and wondered about it. Then they went away from Him. They Ask about Being Raised from the Dead

23 E se día se acercaron a Jesús algunos Saduceos, los que dicen que no hay resurrección,

The same day some people from the religious group who believe no one will be raised from the dead came to Jesus. They asked,

24 y Le dijeron: “Maestro, Moisés dijo: ‘ Si alguien muere sin tener hijos, su hermano, como pariente mas cercano, se casara con su mujer y levantara descendencia a su hermano.’

“Teacher, Moses said, ‘If a man should die without having children, then his brother must marry his wife. He should have children for his brother.’

25 A hora bien, había entre nosotros siete hermanos; el primero se casó, y murió; pero no teniendo descendencia, le dejó la mujer a su hermano.

There were seven brothers with us. The first was married but died before he had any children. The second brother then married the first brother’s wife.

26 D e igual manera también el segundo, y el tercero, hasta el séptimo.

The second brother died and the same with the third and on to the seventh.

27 Y después de todos, murió la mujer.

Then the woman died also.

28 P or tanto, en la resurrección, ¿de cuál de los siete será mujer? Porque todos ellos la tuvieron.”

When people are raised from the dead, whose wife will she be of the seven? They all had her for a wife.”

29 P ero Jesús les respondió: “Están equivocados por no comprender las Escrituras ni el poder de Dios.

Jesus said to them, “You are wrong because you do not know the Holy Writings or the power of God.

30 P orque en la resurrección, ni se casan ni son dados en matrimonio, sino que son como los ángeles de Dios en el cielo.

After people are raised from the dead, they do not marry. They are like the angels in heaven.

31 Y en cuanto a la resurrección de los muertos, ¿no han leído lo que les fue dicho por Dios, cuando dijo:

Have you not read what God said to you about those who are raised from the dead? He said,

32 ‘ Yo soy el Dios de Abraham, y el Dios de Isaac, y el Dios de Jacob ’? El no es Dios de muertos, sino de vivos.”

‘I am the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.’ He is not the God of the dead but of the living!”

33 A l oír esto, las multitudes se admiraban de Su enseñanza. El Gran Mandamiento

When the people heard this, they were surprised and wondered about His teaching. The Great Law

34 L os Fariseos se agruparon al oír que Jesús había dejado callados a los Saduceos.

The proud religious law-keepers got together when they heard that the religious group of people who believe no one will be raised from the dead were not able to talk anymore to Jesus.

35 U no de ellos, intérprete de la Ley (experto en la Ley de Moisés), para poner a prueba a Jesús, Le preguntó:

A proud religious law-keeper who knew the Law tried to trap Jesus. He said,

36 “ Maestro, ¿cuál es el gran mandamiento de la Ley?”

“Teacher, which one is the greatest of the Laws?”

37 Y El le contestó: “ Amaras al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazon, y con toda tu alma, y con toda tu mente.

Jesus said to him, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’

38 E ste es el grande y primer mandamiento.

This is the first and greatest of the Laws.

39 Y el segundo es semejante a éste: Amaras a tu projimo como a ti mismo.

The second is like it, ‘You must love your neighbor as you love yourself.’

40 D e estos dos mandamientos dependen toda la Ley y los Profetas.” Jesús, Hijo y Señor de David

All the Laws and the writings of the early preachers depend on these two most important Laws.”

41 E stando reunidos los Fariseos, Jesús les hizo una pregunta:

The proud religious law-keepers were gathered together. Then Jesus asked,

42 “ ¿Cuál es la opinión de ustedes sobre el Cristo (el Mesías)? ¿De quién es hijo?” “De David,” le contestaron ellos.

“What do you think about the Christ? Whose Son is He?” They said to Him, “The Son of David.”

43 J esús les dijo: “Entonces, ¿cómo es que David en el Espíritu Lo llama ‘Señor,’ diciendo:

Jesus said to them, “Then how is it that David, being led by the Holy Spirit, calls Him ‘Lord’? He said,

44 ‘ Dijo el Señor a mi Señor: “ sientate a Mi diestra, hasta que ponga a Tus enemigos debajo de Tus pies ”’?

‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right side until I make those who hate You a place to rest Your feet.”’

45 P ues si David Lo llama ‘Señor,’ ¿cómo es El su hijo?”

If David calls Him ‘Lord,’ then how can He be the Son of David?”

46 Y nadie Le pudo contestar ni una palabra, ni ninguno desde ese día se atrevió a hacer más preguntas a Jesús.

No one could answer a word, and after that day no one asked Him anything.
