1 Estas son las ordenanzas que pondrás delante de ellos.

“Now these are the Laws which you are to give them.

2 S i compras un siervo Hebreo, te servirá seis años, pero al séptimo saldrá libre sin pagar nada.

If you buy a Hebrew servant, he will work for six years. In the seventh year he will go free, paying nothing.

3 S i entró solo, saldrá solo. Si tenía mujer, entonces su mujer saldrá con él.

If he comes alone, he will leave by himself. If he is married, then his wife will leave with him.

4 S i su amo le da mujer, y ella le da hijos o hijas, la mujer y sus hijos serán de su amo, y él saldrá solo.

If his owner gives him a wife and she gives birth to his sons or daughters, the wife and her children will belong to her owner, and he will leave by himself.

5 P ero si el siervo insiste y dice: ‘Amo a mi señor, a mi mujer y a mis hijos. No saldré libre,’

But if the servant says, ‘I love my owner, my wife and my children; I do not care to go free,’

6 e ntonces su amo lo traerá a Dios, lo traerá a la puerta o al poste de la puerta, y su amo le horadará la oreja con una lezna, y él le servirá para siempre.

7 Si alguien vende a su hija como sierva, ella no saldrá libre como salen los siervos.

9 S i la destina para su hijo, la tratará conforme a la costumbre de las hijas.

If he takes her for his son, he will act toward her as with a daughter.

10 S i toma para sí otra mujer, no disminuirá a la primera su alimento, ni su ropa, ni sus derechos conyugales.

If he marries again, her food, clothing and marriage rights are to stay the same.

11 Y si no hace por ella estas tres cosas, entonces ella saldrá libre sin pagar nada. Leyes sobre el Homicidio y la Violencia

12 El que hiera de muerte a otro, ciertamente morirá.

“Whoever hits a man so that he dies will be put to death.

13 P ero si no estaba al acecho, sino que Dios permitió que cayera en sus manos, entonces yo te señalaré un lugar donde pueda refugiarse.

But if he did not plan to hurt him, but God allowed it to happen, then I will give you a place where he may run to be safe.

15 El que hiera a su padre o a su madre, ciertamente morirá.

16 El que secuestre a una persona, ya sea que la venda o sea hallada en su poder, ciertamente morirá.

“Whoever steals a man and sells him, or keeps him for himself, will be put to death.

17 El que maldiga a su padre o a su madre, ciertamente morirá.

Whoever curses his father or his mother will be put to death.

18 Si dos hombres riñen y uno hiere al otro con una piedra o con el puño, y no muere, pero guarda cama,

“When men argue and one hits the other with a stone or with his hand, and he does not die but has to stay in bed because of it,

19 y se levanta y anda afuera con su bastón, el que lo hirió será absuelto. Sólo pagará por su tiempo perdido, y lo cuidará hasta que esté completamente curado.

then if he gets up and walks around outside using his walking stick, the one who hit him will not be punished. He will only pay for the loss of his time. And he will take care of him until he is healed.

20 Si alguien hiere a su siervo o a su sierva con una vara, y muere bajo su mano, será castigado.

21 S in embargo, si sobrevive uno o dos días, no se tomará venganza, porque es propiedad suya.

But if he or she lives a day or two, he will not be punished, for his servant belongs to him.

22 Si algunos hombres luchan entre sí y golpean a una mujer encinta, y ella aborta, sin haber otro daño, ciertamente el culpable será multado según lo que el esposo de la mujer demande de él. Pagará según lo que los jueces decidan.

“If men fight with each other and hit a woman who is going to have a child so that she loses her baby but no other hurt comes to her, he must pay whatever the woman’s husband says he must, as agreed upon by the judges.

23 P ero si hubiera algún otro daño, entonces pondrás como castigo, vida por vida,

But if there is other hurt also, then it is life for life,

24 o jo por ojo, diente por diente, mano por mano, pie por pie,

eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,

28 Si un buey acornea a un hombre o a una mujer, y le causa la muerte, ciertamente el buey será apedreado y su carne no se comerá; pero el dueño del buey no será castigado.

“When a bull kills a man or a woman with its horns, the bull will be killed with stones. And its flesh will not be eaten. But the owner of the bull will not be punished.

29 S in embargo, si el buey tenía desde antes el hábito de acornear, y su dueño había sido advertido, pero no lo había encerrado, y mata a un hombre o a una mujer, el buey será apedreado, y su dueño también morirá.

But if a bull has tried to kill with its horns before, and the owner has been told but does not keep him shut up, and the bull kills a man or a woman, the bull will be killed with stones and the owner will be put to death.

30 S i se le impone precio de rescate, entonces dará por la redención de su vida lo que se demande de él.

But if he is allowed to pay for his life, then he will pay whatever is asked of him.

31 S i acornea a un hijo o a una hija, será enjuiciado según la misma ley.

If the bull kills a son or a daughter, it will be punished by the same law.

32 S i el buey acornea a un siervo o a una sierva, el dueño dará a su amo treinta siclos (342 gramos) de plata, y el buey será apedreado.

If the bull kills a male or female servant, the bull’s owner will give the servant’s owner thirty pieces of silver. And the bull will be killed with stones.

33 Si alguien destapa un pozo, o cava un pozo y no lo cubre, y cae en él un buey o un asno,

“When a man leaves a deep hole open, or digs a deep hole and does not cover it, and a bull or donkey falls into it,

34 e l dueño del pozo hará restitución. Dará dinero a su dueño, y el animal muerto será suyo.

35 S i el buey de alguien hiere al buey de otro y le causa la muerte, entonces venderán el buey vivo y se dividirán el dinero, y se dividirán también el buey muerto.

“If one man’s bull hurts another’s so that it dies, they will sell the live bull and divide the price so they will each have the same. And they will divide the dead bull.

36 P ero si sabía que el buey tenía desde antes el hábito de acornear y su dueño no lo había encerrado, ciertamente pagará buey por buey, y el buey muerto será suyo.

Or if it is known that the bull has tried to kill with its horns in the past, but its owner has not kept it shut up, he will pay bull for bull. And the dead animal will become his.
