1 E lihu further answered and said:

Elihu a continuat:

2 “ Hear my words, you wise men; Give ear to me, you who have knowledge.

„ Ascultaţi cuvintele mele, înţelepţilor, ascultaţi-mă, voi cei ce aveţi cunoştinţă!

3 F or the ear tests words As the palate tastes food.

Căci urechea analizează cuvintele, aşa cum cerul gurii gustă mâncarea.

4 L et us choose justice for ourselves; Let us know among ourselves what is good.

Să alegem ce este drept; să învăţăm împreună ce este bine.

5 “ For Job has said, ‘I am righteous, But God has taken away my justice;

Căci Iov a zis: «Sunt nevinovat, însă Dumnezeu nu-mi dă dreptate.

6 S hould I lie concerning my right? My wound is incurable, though I am without transgression.’

Deşi sunt drept, sunt considerat mincinos. Deşi sunt fără vină, săgeţile Lui mă rănesc şi nu mă mai vindec.»

7 W hat man is like Job, Who drinks scorn like water,

Este vreun alt om ca Iov, care să bea batjocura ca pe apă,

8 W ho goes in company with the workers of iniquity, And walks with wicked men?

care să umble cu cei ce fac răul şi să se însoţească cu nelegiuiţii?

9 F or he has said, ‘It profits a man nothing That he should delight in God.’

Căci el a zis: «Nu e de nici un folos omului să-şi găsească desfătarea în Dumnezeu.»

10 “ Therefore listen to me, you men of understanding: Far be it from God to do wickedness, And from the Almighty to commit iniquity.

De aceea voi, oameni pricepuţi, ascultaţi-mă! Departe de Dumnezeu fărădelegea şi de Cel Atotputernic nedreptatea!

11 F or He repays man according to his work, And makes man to find a reward according to his way.

El răsplăteşte omului după faptele lui şi dă fiecăruia după purtarea lui.

12 S urely God will never do wickedly, Nor will the Almighty pervert justice.

Dumnezeu nu poate săvârşi fărădelegea, Cel Atotputernic nu poate perverti dreptatea.

13 W ho gave Him charge over the earth? Or who appointed Him over the whole world?

Cine I-a încredinţat pământul? Cine I-a supus întreaga lume?

14 I f He should set His heart on it, If He should gather to Himself His Spirit and His breath,

Dacă ar fi vrut să-Şi retragă duhul şi suflarea,

15 A ll flesh would perish together, And man would return to dust.

toată omenirea ar pieri şi omul s-ar întoarce în ţărână.

16 “ If you have understanding, hear this; Listen to the sound of my words:

Dacă ai pricepere, ascultă-mă, ia aminte la ce îţi voi spune!

17 S hould one who hates justice govern? Will you condemn Him who is most just?

Poate stăpâni cel ce urăşte dreptatea? Îl vei condamna tu pe Cel Drept şi Puternic,

18 I s it fitting to say to a king, ‘ You are worthless,’ And to nobles, ‘ You are wicked’?

Care zice împăraţilor: «Ticăloşilor!», Care zice prinţilor: «Răilor!»,

19 Y et He is not partial to princes, Nor does He regard the rich more than the poor; For they are all the work of His hands.

Care nu părtineşte pe domnitori, nici nu face deosebire între bogat şi sărac, pentru că toţi sunt lucrarea mâinilor Sale?

20 I n a moment they die, in the middle of the night; The people are shaken and pass away; The mighty are taken away without a hand.

Ei îşi pierd viaţa într-o clipă, la miezul nopţii; poporul se clatină şi piere. Cel puternic piere fără amestecul vreunei mâini.

21 “ For His eyes are on the ways of man, And He sees all his steps.

Ochii Săi cunosc căile oamenilor; El le vede fiecare pas.

22 T here is no darkness nor shadow of death Where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.

Nu există loc întunecos sau întuneric adânc unde să se ascundă cei ce fac răul.

23 F or He need not further consider a man, That he should go before God in judgment.

Căci nu de om depinde vremea în care să vină la judecată înaintea lui Dumnezeu.

24 H e breaks in pieces mighty men without inquiry, And sets others in their place.

Îi scutură pe cei puternici fără cercetare şi-i pune pe alţii în locul lor.

25 T herefore He knows their works; He overthrows them in the night, And they are crushed.

Pentru că le cunoaşte faptele, îi răstoarnă noaptea şi sunt zdrobiţi;

26 H e strikes them as wicked men In the open sight of others,

îi loveşte pentru răutatea lor înaintea ochilor tuturor,

27 B ecause they turned back from Him, And would not consider any of His ways,

pentru că nu L-au mai urmat şi nu le-a mai păsat de nici una din căile Lui.

28 S o that they caused the cry of the poor to come to Him; For He hears the cry of the afflicted.

Ei au făcut ca strigătul celui sărac să ajungă înaintea Lui, aşa că El a auzit strigătul celui în necaz.

29 W hen He gives quietness, who then can make trouble? And when He hides His face, who then can see Him, Whether it is against a nation or a man alone?—

Când tace, cine-L poate condamna? Când Îşi ascunde faţa, cine-L poate vedea? La fel se poartă fie cu un neam, fie cu un om.

30 T hat the hypocrite should not reign, Lest the people be ensnared.

Aşa că cel lipsit de evlavie nu va domni, ca să nu fie o cursă pentru popor.

31 “ For has anyone said to God, ‘I have borne chastening; I will offend no more;

I-a spus cineva vreodată lui Dumnezeu: «Am răbdat pedeapsa, dar nu voi mai păcătui.»?

32 T each me what I do not see; If I have done iniquity, I will do no more’?

Învaţă-mă ceea ce nu văd! Dacă am făcut nedreptate, nu voi mai face!»

33 S hould He repay it according to your terms, Just because you disavow it? You must choose, and not I; Therefore speak what you know.

Ar trebui El să îndrepte ceea ce a făcut pentru că tu protestezi? Tu trebuie să hotărăşti, nu eu! Deci spune ceea ce ştii!

34 “ Men of understanding say to me, Wise men who listen to me:

Oamenii pricepuţi vorbesc ca mine, iar omul înţelept care mă aude, spune şi el:

35 ‘ Job speaks without knowledge, His words are without wisdom.’

«Iov vorbeşte fără să cunoască, cuvintele lui sunt lipsite de chibzuinţă.»

36 O h, that Job were tried to the utmost, Because his answers are like those of wicked men!

Să fie încercat mai departe, pentru că vorbeşte ca un om rău.

37 F or he adds rebellion to his sin; He claps his hands among us, And multiplies his words against God.”

El adaugă răzvrătire la păcatul său, bate din palme între noi şi îşi înmulţeşte cuvintele împotriva lui Dumnezeu.“
