1 N ow the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell slain on Mount Gilboa.

Filistenii s-au luptat cu Israel, iar israeliţii au fugit dinaintea filistenilor şi au căzut răpuşi pe muntele Ghilboa.

2 T hen the Philistines followed hard after Saul and his sons. And the Philistines killed Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua, Saul’s sons.

Filistenii i-au urmărit pe Saul şi pe fiii săi; i-au ucis pe Ionatan, pe Abinadab şi pe Malchi-Şua, fiii lui Saul.

3 T he battle became fierce against Saul. The archers hit him, and he was wounded by the archers.

Lupta devenise înverşunată în preajma lui Saul; arcaşii l-au ţintit şi l-au rănit.

4 T hen Saul said to his armorbearer, “Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised men come and abuse me.” But his armorbearer would not, for he was greatly afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword and fell on it.

Atunci Saul i-a zis celui ce-i ducea armele: „Scoate-ţi sabia şi străpunge-mă tu cu ea, ca nu cumva aceşti necircumcişi să ajungă la mine şi să mă batjocorească!“ Însă cel ce-i ducea armele n-a vrut să facă lucrul acesta pentru că îi era foarte frică. Atunci Saul şi-a luat sabia şi s-a aruncat în ea.

5 A nd when his armorbearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell on his sword and died.

Când cel ce-i ducea armele a văzut că Saul a murit, s-a aruncat şi el în sabia lui şi a murit.

6 S o Saul and his three sons died, and all his house died together.

Astfel a murit Saul împreună cu cei trei fii ai lui şi toată Casa sa.

7 A nd when all the men of Israel who were in the valley saw that they had fled and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook their cities and fled; then the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

Când israeliţii care se aflau în vale au văzut că oştirea a fugit şi că Saul şi fiii săi au murit, şi-au părăsit cetăţile şi au fugit şi ei. Atunci filistenii au venit şi au locuit în ele.

8 S o it happened the next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.

Dimineaţa, când filistenii au venit să-i jefuiască pe cei ucişi, l-au găsit pe Saul şi pe fiii săi căzuţi pe muntele Ghilboa.

9 A nd they stripped him and took his head and his armor, and sent word throughout the land of the Philistines to proclaim the news in the temple of their idols and among the people.

L-au prădat pe Saul, i-au luat capul şi armele şi au trimis mesageri pe tot cuprinsul ţării filistenilor, ca să ducă vestea idolilor lor şi poporului.

10 T hen they put his armor in the temple of their gods, and fastened his head in the temple of Dagon.

I-au pus armele în templul zeilor lor, iar ţeasta i-au atârnat-o în templul lui Dagon.

11 A nd when all Jabesh Gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,

Când au auzit tot ce i-au făcut filistenii lui Saul, ghiladiţii din Iabeş,

12 a ll the valiant men arose and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons; and they brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the tamarisk tree at Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

toţi războinicii, au luat trupul lui Saul şi trupurile fiilor săi şi le-au adus la Iabeş. Le-au îngropat oasele sub terebintul din Iabeş şi au postit timp de şapte zile.

13 S o Saul died for his unfaithfulness which he had committed against the Lord, because he did not keep the word of the Lord, and also because he consulted a medium for guidance.

Saul a murit din cauza necredincioşiei lui, fiind necredincios faţă de Domnul prin faptul că nu a păzit Cuvântul Domnului; de asemenea, el a întrebat pe cineva care cheamă duhurile morţilor, cerând călăuzire

14 B ut he did not inquire of the Lord; therefore He killed him, and turned the kingdom over to David the son of Jesse.

şi nu L-a căutat pe Domnul; de aceea Domnul l-a omorât. El i-a dat domnia lui David, fiul lui Işai.
