1 “ When I would have healed Israel, Then the iniquity of Ephraim was uncovered, And the wickedness of Samaria. For they have committed fraud; A thief comes in; A band of robbers takes spoil outside.

când vreau să vindec Israelul, ies la iveală vina lui Efraim şi ticăloşiile Samariei. Căci ei se îndeletnicesc cu înşelătoria: înăuntru, vine hoţul, iar afară – jefuieşte ceata de tâlhari.

2 T hey do not consider in their hearts That I remember all their wickedness; Now their own deeds have surrounded them; They are before My face.

Nu-şi dau seama că Eu Îmi aduc aminte de toate răutăţile lor, astfel că, acum, faptele lor îi împresoară şi sunt înaintea feţei Mele.

3 T hey make a king glad with their wickedness, And princes with their lies.

Ei îl înveselesc pe rege cu răutatea lor şi pe prinţi – cu minciunile lor.

4 “ They are all adulterers. Like an oven heated by a baker— He ceases stirring the fire after kneading the dough, Until it is leavened.

Toţi sunt adulteri, sunt asemenea unui cuptor încins de brutar, care a încetat să mai înteţească focul, de când a frământat aluatul şi până la dospire.

5 I n the day of our king Princes have made him sick, inflamed with wine; He stretched out his hand with scoffers.

De ziua regelui nostru, căpeteniile s-au aprins din pricina vinului, iar el dă mâna cu batjocoritorii.

6 T hey prepare their heart like an oven, While they lie in wait; Their baker sleeps all night; In the morning it burns like a flaming fire.

Le dogoreşte inima ca un cuptor, atunci când uneltesc. Toată noaptea mânia lor mocneşte, iar dimineaţa arde ca flacăra focului.

7 T hey are all hot, like an oven, And have devoured their judges; All their kings have fallen. None among them calls upon Me.

Cu toţii frig ca un cuptor şi îşi mănâncă judecătorii. Toţi regii lor se prăbuşesc şi nici unul din ei nu Mă cheamă.

8 “ Ephraim has mixed himself among the peoples; Ephraim is a cake unturned.

Efraim, chiar el, se amestecă cu popoarele; Efraim este o turtă care n-a fost întoarsă.

9 A liens have devoured his strength, But he does not know it; Yes, gray hairs are here and there on him, Yet he does not know it.

Străinii îi devorează puterea, iar el nu-şi dea seama. Începe să aibă păr cărunt, iar el nu-şi dă seama.

10 A nd the pride of Israel testifies to his face, But they do not return to the Lord their God, Nor seek Him for all this. Futile Reliance on the Nations

Mândria lui Israel mărturiseşte împotriva lui, dar el tot nu se întoarce la Domnul, Dumnezeul lui, şi tot nu-L caută, în pofida tuturor acestor lucruri.

11 “ Ephraim also is like a silly dove, without sense— They call to Egypt, They go to Assyria.

Efraim este ca un porumbel, uşor de amăgit şi fără minte: mai întâi cheamă Egiptul în ajutor, apoi se duce în Asiria.

12 W herever they go, I will spread My net on them; I will bring them down like birds of the air; I will chastise them According to what their congregation has heard.

Când se vor duce, Îmi voi arunca plasa peste ei, îi voi doborî ca pe păsările cerului; când voi auzi că se adună laolaltă, îi voi pedepsi.

13 “ Woe to them, for they have fled from Me! Destruction to them, Because they have transgressed against Me! Though I redeemed them, Yet they have spoken lies against Me.

Vai de ei, căci s-au depărtat de Mine! La distrugere cu ei, căci s-au răzvrătit împotriva Mea! Aş vrea să-i răscumpăr, dar ei spun minciuni împotriva Mea.

14 T hey did not cry out to Me with their heart When they wailed upon their beds. “They assemble together for grain and new wine, They rebel against Me;

Nu strigă la Mine din inimă după ajutor, ci se văicăresc în paturile lor. Se însoţesc pentru strângerea grânelor şi a mustului, dar Mie Îmi întorc spatele.

15 T hough I disciplined and strengthened their arms, Yet they devise evil against Me;

Eu i-am instruit, le-am întărit braţele, dar ei gândesc rău împotriva Mea.

16 T hey return, but not to the Most High; They are like a treacherous bow. Their princes shall fall by the sword For the cursings of their tongue. This shall be their derision in the land of Egypt.

Nu se întorc la Cel Preaînalt; sunt ca un arc defectuos. Căpeteniile lor vor cădea răpuse de sabie din pricina vorbirii lor îndrăzneţe; aceasta îi va face de râs în ţara Egiptului.“
