1 T hen the whole multitude of them arose and led Him to Pilate.

Toţi cei din adunarea lor s-au ridicat şi L-au dus pe Isus la Pilat.

2 A nd they began to accuse Him, saying, “We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, saying that He Himself is Christ, a King.”

Ei au început să-L acuze zicând: „Pe Acesta L-am găsit pervertindu-ne neamul, interzicând a se da tribut Cezarului şi zicând despre Sine că este Cristos, un Împărat!“

3 T hen Pilate asked Him, saying, “Are You the King of the Jews?” He answered him and said, “ It is as you say.”

Pilat L-a întrebat: – Eşti Tu Împăratul iudeilor? Isus i-a răspuns: – Este aşa cum spui.

4 S o Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowd, “I find no fault in this Man.”

Pilat le-a zis conducătorilor preoţilor şi mulţimilor: – Eu nu găsesc nimic vinovat în Omul Acesta!

5 B ut they were the more fierce, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee to this place.” Jesus Faces Herod

Dar ei au insistat şi au zis: – Întărâtă poporul, dând învăţătură prin toată Iudeea, din Galileea, de unde a început, şi până aici!

6 W hen Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked if the Man were a Galilean.

Când a auzit acest lucru, Pilat a întrebat dacă Omul este galileean

7 A nd as soon as he knew that He belonged to Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent Him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem at that time.

şi, aflând că este sub autoritatea lui Irod, L-a trimis la Irod, care se afla şi el în Ierusalim în zilele acelea.

8 N ow when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad; for he had desired for a long time to see Him, because he had heard many things about Him, and he hoped to see some miracle done by Him.

Irod s-a bucurat foarte mult când L-a văzut pe Isus, pentru că de multă vreme dorea să-L vadă, din pricina a ceea ce auzise despre El, şi spera să-L vadă înfăptuind vreun semn.

9 T hen he questioned Him with many words, but He answered him nothing.

I-a pus multe întrebări, dar Isus nu i-a răspuns nimic.

10 A nd the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused Him.

Conducătorii preoţilor şi cărturarii stăteau acolo, acuzându-L cu vehemenţă.

11 T hen Herod, with his men of war, treated Him with contempt and mocked Him, arrayed Him in a gorgeous robe, and sent Him back to Pilate.

Irod împreună cu soldaţii lui L-au tratat cu dispreţ şi, după ce şi-au bătut joc de El, L-au îmbrăcat într-o haină strălucitoare şi L-au trimis înapoi la Pilat.

12 T hat very day Pilate and Herod became friends with each other, for previously they had been at enmity with each other. Taking the Place of Barabbas

În ziua aceea, Irod şi Pilat s-au împrietenit unul cu altul, căci înainte fuseseră în duşmănie unul faţă de celălalt.

13 T hen Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests, the rulers, and the people,

Pilat i-a chemat laolaltă pe conducătorii preoţilor, pe conducători şi pe popor

14 s aid to them, “You have brought this Man to me, as one who misleads the people. And indeed, having examined Him in your presence, I have found no fault in this Man concerning those things of which you accuse Him;

şi le-a zis: – Mi L-aţi adus pe Omul Acesta, ca pe Unul Care duce în rătăcire poporul. Şi iată că eu L-am cercetat înaintea voastră, dar n-am găsit în Omul Acesta nici un lucru de care să fie vinovat, aşa cum L-aţi acuzat voi.

15 n o, neither did Herod, for I sent you back to him; and indeed nothing deserving of death has been done by Him.

Şi nici Irod nu L-a găsit vinovat, pentru că ni L-a trimis înapoi. Iată deci că n-a făcut nimic vrednic de moarte.

16 I will therefore chastise Him and release Him ”

Aşadar, după ce-L voi pedepsi, Îl voi elibera!

17 ( for it was necessary for him to release one to them at the feast).

(El trebuia să le elibereze pe cineva cu ocazia sărbătorii.)

18 A nd they all cried out at once, saying, “Away with this Man, and release to us Barabbas”—

Însă ei au strigat cu toţii: – La o parte cu Acesta! Eliberează-ni-l pe Baraba!

19 w ho had been thrown into prison for a certain rebellion made in the city, and for murder.

Acesta fusese aruncat în închisoare pentru o răscoală care avusese loc în cetate şi pentru crimă.

20 P ilate, therefore, wishing to release Jesus, again called out to them.

Pilat le-a vorbit din nou, vrând să-L elibereze pe Isus,

21 B ut they shouted, saying, “Crucify Him, crucify Him!”

însă ei strigau: – Răstigneşte-L! Răstigneşte-L!

22 T hen he said to them the third time, “Why, what evil has He done? I have found no reason for death in Him. I will therefore chastise Him and let Him go.”

El le-a zis a treia oară: – Dar ce rău a făcut Acesta? Eu n-am găsit în El nici un lucru vrednic de moarte! Aşadar, după ce-L voi pedepsi, Îl voi elibera!

23 B ut they were insistent, demanding with loud voices that He be crucified. And the voices of these men and of the chief priests prevailed.

Dar ei au continuat să strige tot mai tare şi să-i ceară să fie răstignit. Şi strigătele lor (şi ale conducătorilor preoţilor) au biruit.

24 S o Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they requested.

Pilat a decis să li se îndeplinească cererea.

25 A nd he released to them the one they requested, who for rebellion and murder had been thrown into prison; but he delivered Jesus to their will. The King on a Cross

L-a eliberat, aşa cum cereau ei, pe cel care fusese aruncat în închisoare pentru răscoală şi crimă, iar pe Isus L-a dat pe mâna lor, ca să-i facă după cum doresc. Răstignirea

26 N ow as they led Him away, they laid hold of a certain man, Simon a Cyrenian, who was coming from the country, and on him they laid the cross that he might bear it after Jesus.

În timp ce-L duceau de-acolo, l-au apucat pe Simon, un om din Cirena, care venea de la câmp, şi i-au pus crucea în spinare ca s-o ducă după Isus.

27 A nd a great multitude of the people followed Him, and women who also mourned and lamented Him.

Pe Isus Îl urma o mare mulţime de oameni, printre care şi nişte femei care se băteau în piept şi-L jeleau.

28 B ut Jesus, turning to them, said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.

Dar Isus S-a întors către ele şi le-a zis: „Fiice ale Ierusalimului, nu Mă plângeţi pe Mine, ci plângeţi-vă pe voi şi pe copiii voştri!

29 F or indeed the days are coming in which they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, wombs that never bore, and breasts which never nursed!’

Căci iată, vin zile în care se va spune: «Ferice de cele sterpe, de pântecele care n-au născut şi de sânii care n-au alăptat!»

30 T hen they will begin ‘to say to the mountains, “Fall on us!” and to the hills, “Cover us!”’

Atunci vor începe să zică munţilor: «Cădeţi peste noi!» şi dealurilor: «Acoperiţi-ne!»

31 F or if they do these things in the green wood, what will be done in the dry?”

Căci dacă i se fac aceste lucruri copacului verde, ce se va întâmpla cu cel uscat?!“

32 T here were also two others, criminals, led with Him to be put to death.

Au fost aduşi şi doi răufăcători ca să fie executaţi împreună cu El.

33 A nd when they had come to the place called Calvary, there they crucified Him, and the criminals, one on the right hand and the other on the left.

Când au ajuns în locul numit „Craniul“, i-au răstignit acolo pe Isus şi pe răufăcători, unul la dreapta şi unul la stânga.

34 T hen Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” And they divided His garments and cast lots.

(Isus zicea: „Tată, iartă-i, căci nu ştiu ce fac!“) Au tras la sorţi ca să-şi împartă hainele Lui între ei.

35 A nd the people stood looking on. But even the rulers with them sneered, saying, “He saved others; let Him save Himself if He is the Christ, the chosen of God.”

Poporul stătea acolo şi se uita. Conducătorii îşi băteau joc de El, zicând: „Pe alţii i-a salvat; să Se salveze şi pe Sine dacă este Cristosul lui Dumnezeu, Alesul!“

36 T he soldiers also mocked Him, coming and offering Him sour wine,

Soldaţii, de asemenea, îşi băteau joc de El; ei veneau, Îi ofereau vin acru

37 a nd saying, “If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself.”

şi ziceau: „Dacă Tu eşti Împăratul iudeilor, salvează-Te pe Tine Însuţi!“

38 A nd an inscription also was written over Him in letters of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew: THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

Deasupra Lui era o inscripţie (cu litere greceşti, latineşti şi aramaice): „Acesta este Împăratul iudeilor.“

39 T hen one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, “If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us.”

Unul dintre răufăcătorii care fuseseră răstigniţi Îl insulta zicând: „Nu eşti Tu Cristosul? Salvează-Te pe Tine şi salvează-ne şi pe noi!“

40 B ut the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, “Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation?

Celălalt însă l-a mustrat zicând: „Nu te temi de Dumnezeu, tu, care eşti sub aceeaşi sentinţă?

41 A nd we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong.”

Pentru noi, într-adevăr, este drept, căci noi primim ceea ce merităm pentru ce-am săvârşit, dar Acesta n-a săvârşit nimic rău!“

42 T hen he said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.”

Apoi a zis: – Isuse, adu-Ţi aminte de mine când vii în Împărăţia Ta!

43 A nd Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.” Jesus Dies on the Cross

Isus i-a răspuns: – Adevărat îţi spun, astăzi vei fi cu Mine în Rai! Moartea lui Isus

44 N ow it was about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour.

Era deja cam pe la ceasul al şaselea. Şi s-a făcut întuneric peste toată ţara până pe la ceasul al nouălea.

45 T hen the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn in two.

Soarele s-a întunecat, iar draperia Templului a fost despicată la mijloc.

46 A nd when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said, “Father, ‘into Your hands I commit My spirit.’” Having said this, He breathed His last.

Isus a strigat cu glas tare: „Tată, în mâinile Tale Îmi încredinţez duhul!“ Şi spunând aceasta, Şi-a dat suflarea.

47 S o when the centurion saw what had happened, he glorified God, saying, “Certainly this was a righteous Man!”

Când centurionul a văzut ce se întâmplase, L-a slăvit pe Dumnezeu şi a zis: „Într-adevăr Omul Acesta era un Om drept!“

48 A nd the whole crowd who came together to that sight, seeing what had been done, beat their breasts and returned.

Toate mulţimile care se adunaseră în faţa acestei privelişti, văzând ce se întâmplă, s-au întors bătându-şi piepturile.

49 B ut all His acquaintances, and the women who followed Him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things. Jesus Buried in Joseph’s Tomb

Toţi cunoscuţii Lui, inclusiv femeile care-L însoţiseră din Galileea, stăteau la distanţă şi se uitau la aceste lucruri. Înmormântarea lui Isus

50 N ow behold, there was a man named Joseph, a council member, a good and just man.

Şi iată că era un om pe nume Iosif, un sfetnic în Sinedriu, om bun şi drept,

51 H e had not consented to their decision and deed. He was from Arimathea, a city of the Jews, who himself was also waiting for the kingdom of God.

care nu fusese de acord cu planul şi acţiunea lor. Era din Arimateea, o cetate a iudeilor, şi aştepta şi el Împărăţia lui Dumnezeu.

52 T his man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.

Acesta a venit la Pilat şi i-a cerut trupul lui Isus.

53 T hen he took it down, wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a tomb that was hewn out of the rock, where no one had ever lain before.

După ce I-a dat jos trupul, L-a înfăşurat într-o pânză de in şi L-a pus într-un mormânt săpat în stâncă, în care nu mai fusese pus nimeni.

54 T hat day was the Preparation, and the Sabbath drew near.

Era Ziua Pregătirii şi începea Sabatul.

55 A nd the women who had come with Him from Galilee followed after, and they observed the tomb and how His body was laid.

Femeile, cele care veniseră împreună cu El din Galileea, s-au luat după Iosif şi au văzut mormântul şi cum a fost pus trupul lui Isus.

56 T hen they returned and prepared spices and fragrant oils. And they rested on the Sabbath according to the commandment.

Ele s-au întors şi au pregătit miresme şi uleiuri aromate. Apoi, în ziua de Sabat, s-au odihnit, potrivit poruncii.
