1 T hen the whole multitude of them arose and led Him to Pilate.

Entonces toda la asamblea de ellos se levantó, y llevaron a Jesús ante Pilato.

2 A nd they began to accuse Him, saying, “We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, saying that He Himself is Christ, a King.”

Y comenzaron a acusarle, diciendo: Hemos hallado que éste pervierte a nuestra nación, prohibiendo pagar impuesto al César, y diciendo que El mismo es Cristo, un Rey.

3 T hen Pilate asked Him, saying, “Are You the King of the Jews?” He answered him and said, “ It is as you say.”

Pilato entonces le preguntó, diciendo: ¿Eres tú el Rey de los judíos? Y Jesús respondiéndole, dijo: Tú lo dices.

4 S o Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowd, “I find no fault in this Man.”

Y Pilato dijo a los principales sacerdotes y a la multitud: No encuentro delito en este hombre.

5 B ut they were the more fierce, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee to this place.” Jesus Faces Herod

Pero ellos insistían, diciendo: El alborota al pueblo, enseñando por toda Judea, comenzando desde Galilea hasta aquí.

6 W hen Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked if the Man were a Galilean.

Cuando Pilato oyó esto, preguntó si el hombre era galileo.

7 A nd as soon as he knew that He belonged to Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent Him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem at that time.

Y al saber que Jesús pertenecía a la jurisdicción de Herodes, le remitió a Herodes, que también estaba en Jerusalén en aquellos días. Jesús ante Herodes

8 N ow when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad; for he had desired for a long time to see Him, because he had heard many things about Him, and he hoped to see some miracle done by Him.

Herodes, al ver a Jesús se alegró en gran manera, pues hacía mucho tiempo que quería verle por lo que había oído hablar de El, y esperaba ver alguna señal que El hiciera.

9 T hen he questioned Him with many words, but He answered him nothing.

Y le interrogó extensamente, pero Jesús nada le respondió.

10 A nd the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused Him.

Los principales sacerdotes y los escribas también estaban allí, acusándole con vehemencia.

11 T hen Herod, with his men of war, treated Him with contempt and mocked Him, arrayed Him in a gorgeous robe, and sent Him back to Pilate.

Entonces Herodes, con sus soldados, después de tratarle con desprecio y burlarse de El, le vistió con un espléndido manto y le envió de nuevo a Pilato.

12 T hat very day Pilate and Herod became friends with each other, for previously they had been at enmity with each other. Taking the Place of Barabbas

Aquel mismo día Herodes y Pilato se hicieron amigos, pues antes habían estado enemistados el uno con el otro. Pilato condena a Jesús

13 T hen Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests, the rulers, and the people,

Entonces Pilato convocó a los principales sacerdotes, a los gobernantes y al pueblo,

14 s aid to them, “You have brought this Man to me, as one who misleads the people. And indeed, having examined Him in your presence, I have found no fault in this Man concerning those things of which you accuse Him;

y les dijo: Me habéis presentado a este hombre como uno que incita al pueblo a la rebelión, pero habiéndole interrogado yo delante de vosotros, no he hallado ningún delito en este hombre de las acusaciones que hacéis contra El.

15 n o, neither did Herod, for I sent you back to him; and indeed nothing deserving of death has been done by Him.

Ni tampoco Herodes, pues nos lo ha remitido de nuevo; y he aquí que nada ha hecho que merezca la muerte.

16 I will therefore chastise Him and release Him ”

Por consiguiente, después de castigarle, le soltaré.

17 ( for it was necessary for him to release one to them at the feast).

Y tenía obligación de soltarles un preso en cada fiesta.

18 A nd they all cried out at once, saying, “Away with this Man, and release to us Barabbas”—

Pero todos ellos gritaron a una, diciendo: ¡ Fuera con éste, y suéltanos a Barrabás!

19 w ho had been thrown into prison for a certain rebellion made in the city, and for murder.

(Este había sido echado en la cárcel por un levantamiento ocurrido en la ciudad, y por homicidio.)

20 P ilate, therefore, wishing to release Jesus, again called out to them.

Pilato, queriendo soltar a Jesús, les volvió a hablar,

21 B ut they shouted, saying, “Crucify Him, crucify Him!”

pero ellos continuaban gritando, diciendo: ¡Crucifíca le! ¡Crucifícale!

22 T hen he said to them the third time, “Why, what evil has He done? I have found no reason for death in Him. I will therefore chastise Him and let Him go.”

Y él les dijo por tercera vez: ¿Por qué? ¿Qué mal ha hecho éste? No he hallado en El ningún delito digno de muerte; por tanto, le castigaré y le soltaré.

23 B ut they were insistent, demanding with loud voices that He be crucified. And the voices of these men and of the chief priests prevailed.

Pero ellos insistían, pidiendo a grandes voces que fuera crucificado. Y sus voces comenzaron a predominar.

24 S o Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they requested.

Entonces Pilato decidió que se les concediera su demanda.

25 A nd he released to them the one they requested, who for rebellion and murder had been thrown into prison; but he delivered Jesus to their will. The King on a Cross

Y soltó al que ellos pedían, al que había sido echado en la cárcel por sedición y homicidio, pero a Jesús lo entregó a la voluntad de ellos. Jesús se dirige al Calvario

26 N ow as they led Him away, they laid hold of a certain man, Simon a Cyrenian, who was coming from the country, and on him they laid the cross that he might bear it after Jesus.

Cuando le llevaban, tomaron a un cierto Simón de Cirene que venía del campo y le pusieron la cruz encima para que la llevara detrás de Jesús.

27 A nd a great multitude of the people followed Him, and women who also mourned and lamented Him.

Y le seguía una gran multitud del pueblo y de mujeres que lloraban y se lamentaban por El.

28 B ut Jesus, turning to them, said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.

Pero Jesús, volviéndose a ellas, dijo: Hijas de Jerusalén, no lloréis por mí; llorad más bien por vosotras mismas y por vuestros hijos.

29 F or indeed the days are coming in which they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, wombs that never bore, and breasts which never nursed!’

Porque he aquí, vienen días en que dirán: “Dichosas las estériles, y los vientres que nunca concibieron, y los senos que nunca criaron.”

30 T hen they will begin ‘to say to the mountains, “Fall on us!” and to the hills, “Cover us!”’

Entonces comenzarán a decir a los montes: “Caed sobre nosotros ”; y a los collados: “Cubridnos.”

31 F or if they do these things in the green wood, what will be done in the dry?”

Porque si en el árbol verde hacen esto, ¿qué sucederá en el seco?

32 T here were also two others, criminals, led with Him to be put to death.

Y llevaban también a otros dos, que eran malhechores, para ser muertos con El. La crucifixión

33 A nd when they had come to the place called Calvary, there they crucified Him, and the criminals, one on the right hand and the other on the left.

Cuando llegaron al lugar llamado “La Calavera ”, crucificaron allí a Jesús y a los malhechores, uno a la derecha y otro a la izquierda.

34 T hen Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” And they divided His garments and cast lots.

Y Jesús decía: Padre, perdónalos, porque no saben lo que hacen. Y echaron suertes, repartiéndose entre sí sus vestidos.

35 A nd the people stood looking on. But even the rulers with them sneered, saying, “He saved others; let Him save Himself if He is the Christ, the chosen of God.”

Y el pueblo estaba allí mirando; y aun los gobernantes se mofaban de El, diciendo: A otros salvó; que se salve a sí mismo si este es el Cristo de Dios, su Escogido.

36 T he soldiers also mocked Him, coming and offering Him sour wine,

Los soldados también se burlaban de El, acercándose y ofreciéndole vinagre,

37 a nd saying, “If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself.”

y diciendo: Si tú eres el Rey de los judíos, sálvate a ti mismo.

38 A nd an inscription also was written over Him in letters of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew: THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

Había también una inscripción sobre El, que decía: ESTE ES EL REY DE LOS JUDIOS. Los dos malhechores

39 T hen one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, “If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us.”

Y uno de los malhechores que estaban colgados allí le lanzaba insultos, diciendo: ¿No eres tú el Cristo ? ¡Sálvate a ti mismo y a nosotros!

40 B ut the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, “Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation?

Pero el otro le contestó, y reprendiéndole, dijo: ¿Ni siquiera temes tú a Dios a pesar de que estás bajo la misma condena?

41 A nd we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong.”

Y nosotros a la verdad, justamente, porque recibimos lo que merecemos por nuestros hechos; pero éste nada malo ha hecho.

42 T hen he said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.”

Y decía: Jesús, acuérdate de mí cuando vengas en tu reino.

43 A nd Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.” Jesus Dies on the Cross

Entonces El le dijo: En verdad te digo: hoy estarás conmigo en el paraíso. Muerte de Jesús

44 N ow it was about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour.

Era ya como la hora sexta, cuando descendieron tinieblas sobre toda la tierra hasta la hora novena

45 T hen the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn in two.

al eclipsarse el sol. El velo del templo se rasgó en dos.

46 A nd when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said, “Father, ‘into Your hands I commit My spirit.’” Having said this, He breathed His last.

Y Jesús, clamando a gran voz, dijo: Padre, en tus manos encomiendo mi espiritu. Y habiendo dicho esto, expiró.

47 S o when the centurion saw what had happened, he glorified God, saying, “Certainly this was a righteous Man!”

Cuando el centurión vio lo que había sucedido, glorificaba a Dios, diciendo: Ciertamente, este hombre era inocente.

48 A nd the whole crowd who came together to that sight, seeing what had been done, beat their breasts and returned.

Y cuando todas las multitudes que se habían reunido para presenciar este espectáculo, al observar lo que había acontecido, se volvieron golpeándose el pecho.

49 B ut all His acquaintances, and the women who followed Him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things. Jesus Buried in Joseph’s Tomb

Pero todos sus conocidos y las mujeres que le habían acompañado desde Galilea, estaban a cierta distancia viendo estas cosas. Sepultura de Jesús

50 N ow behold, there was a man named Joseph, a council member, a good and just man.

Y había un hombre llamado José, miembro del concilio, varón bueno y justo

51 H e had not consented to their decision and deed. He was from Arimathea, a city of the Jews, who himself was also waiting for the kingdom of God.

(el cual no había asentido al plan y al proceder de los demás ) que era de Arimatea, ciudad de los judíos, y que esperaba el reino de Dios.

52 T his man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.

Este fue a Pilato y le pidió el cuerpo de Jesús,

53 T hen he took it down, wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a tomb that was hewn out of the rock, where no one had ever lain before.

y bajándo le, le envolvió en un lienzo de lino, y le puso en un sepulcro excavado en la roca donde nadie había sido puesto todavía.

54 T hat day was the Preparation, and the Sabbath drew near.

Era el día de la preparación, y estaba para comenzar el día de reposo.

55 A nd the women who had come with Him from Galilee followed after, and they observed the tomb and how His body was laid.

Y las mujeres que habían venido con El desde Galilea siguieron detrás, y vieron el sepulcro y cómo fue colocado el cuerpo.

56 T hen they returned and prepared spices and fragrant oils. And they rested on the Sabbath according to the commandment.

Y cuando regresaron, prepararon especias aromáticas y perfumes. Y en el día de reposo descansaron según el mandamiento.
