1 I n the seventh month, on the twenty-first of the month, the word of the Lord came by Haggai the prophet, saying:

El día veintiuno del mes séptimo, vino la palabra del Señor por medio del profeta Hageo, diciendo:

2 “ Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to the remnant of the people, saying:

Habla ahora a Zorobabel, hijo de Salatiel, gobernador de Judá, y al sumo sacerdote Josué, hijo de Josadac, y al remanente del pueblo, diciendo:

3 ‘ Who is left among you who saw this temple in its former glory? And how do you see it now? In comparison with it, is this not in your eyes as nothing?

“¿Quién ha quedado entre vosotros que haya visto este templo en su gloria primera ? ¿Y cómo lo veis ahora? Tal como está, ¿no es como nada a vuestros ojos?

4 Y et now be strong, Zerubbabel,’ says the Lord; ‘and be strong, Joshua, son of Jehozadak, the high priest; and be strong, all you people of the land,’ says the Lord, ‘and work; for I am with you,’ says the Lord of hosts.

“Pero ahora, esfuérzate, Zorobabel” —declara el Señor — “esfuérzate tú también, Josué, hijo de Josadac, sumo sacerdote, y esforzaos todos vosotros, pueblo de la tierra ” —declara el Señor — “y trabajad, porque yo estoy con vosotros ” —declara el Señor de los ejércitos.

5 ‘ According to the word that I covenanted with you when you came out of Egypt, so My Spirit remains among you; do not fear!’

“ Conforme a la promesa que os hice cuando salisteis de Egipto, mi Espíritu permanece en medio de vosotros; no temáis.”

6 “ For thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘Once more (it is a little while) I will shake heaven and earth, the sea and dry land;

Porque así dice el Señor de los ejércitos: “Una vez más, dentro de poco, yo haré temblar los cielos y la tierra, el mar y la tierra firme.

7 a nd I will shake all nations, and they shall come to the Desire of All Nations, and I will fill this temple with glory,’ says the Lord of hosts.

“Y haré temblar a todas las naciones; vendrán entonces los tesoros de todas las naciones, y yo llenaré de gloria esta casa ” —dice el Señor de los ejércitos.

8 ‘ The silver is Mine, and the gold is Mine,’ says the Lord of hosts.

“Mía es la plata y mío es el oro ” —declara el Señor de los ejércitos.

9 ‘ The glory of this latter temple shall be greater than the former,’ says the Lord of hosts. ‘And in this place I will give peace,’ says the Lord of hosts.” The People Are Defiled

“La gloria postrera de esta casa será mayor que la primera ” —dice el Señor de los ejércitos— “y en este lugar daré paz ” —declara el Señor de los ejércitos.

10 O n the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came by Haggai the prophet, saying,

El día veinticuatro del mes noveno, en el año segundo de Darío, vino la palabra del Señor al profeta Hageo, diciendo:

11 “ Thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘Now, ask the priests concerning the law, saying,

Así dice el Señor de los ejércitos: “Pide ahora instrucción a los sacerdotes:

12 “ If one carries holy meat in the fold of his garment, and with the edge he touches bread or stew, wine or oil, or any food, will it become holy?”’” Then the priests answered and said, “No.”

‘Si alguno lleva carne consagrada en la falda de su vestidura, y toca con su falda pan, alimento cocido, vino, aceite o cualquier otro alimento, ¿quedará éste consagrado ?’” Y los sacerdotes respondieron, y dijeron: No.

13 A nd Haggai said, “If one who is unclean because of a dead body touches any of these, will it be unclean?” So the priests answered and said, “It shall be unclean.”

Y dijo Hageo: Si alguno, inmundo por el contacto con un cadáver, toca cualquiera de estas cosas, ¿quedará inmunda? Respondieron los sacerdotes, y dijeron: Quedará inmunda.

14 T hen Haggai answered and said, “‘So is this people, and so is this nation before Me,’ says the Lord, ‘and so is every work of their hands; and what they offer there is unclean. Promised Blessing

Entonces volvió a hablar Hageo y dijo: “Así es este pueblo y así es esta nación delante de mí” —declara el Señor — “y así es toda obra de sus manos; y lo que aquí ofrecen, inmundo es.

15 ‘ And now, carefully consider from this day forward: from before stone was laid upon stone in the temple of the Lord —

“Ahora pues, considerad bien esto de hoy en adelante: antes que se pusiera piedra sobre piedra en el templo del Señor,

16 s ince those days, when one came to a heap of twenty ephahs, there were but ten; when one came to the wine vat to draw out fifty baths from the press, there were but twenty.

desde aquel tiempo, venía alguno a un montón de veinte medidas, y había sólo diez; venía alguno al lagar para sacar cincuenta cántaros, y había sólo veinte.

17 I struck you with blight and mildew and hail in all the labors of your hands; yet you did not turn to Me,’ says the Lord.

“Os herí con viento abrasador, con añublo y con granizo en toda obra de vuestras manos; pero ninguno de vosotros se volvió a mí ” —declara el Señor.

18 ‘ Consider now from this day forward, from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, from the day that the foundation of the Lord ’s temple was laid—consider it:

“Pero considerad bien esto desde hoy en adelante, desde el día veinticuatro del mes noveno; desde el día en que se pusieron los cimientos del templo del Señor, considerad bien:

19 I s the seed still in the barn? As yet the vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate, and the olive tree have not yielded fruit. But from this day I will bless you. ’” Zerubbabel Chosen as a Signet

“¿Está todavía la semilla en el granero? Todavía la vid, la higuera, el granado y el olivo no han dado fruto; pero desde hoy yo os bendeciré.”

20 A nd again the word of the Lord came to Haggai on the twenty-fourth day of the month, saying,

Y la palabra del Señor vino por segunda vez a Hageo, el día veinticuatro del mes, diciendo:

21 “ Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying: ‘I will shake heaven and earth.

Habla a Zorobabel, gobernador de Judá, diciendo: “Yo estremeceré los cielos y la tierra,

22 I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms; I will destroy the strength of the Gentile kingdoms. I will overthrow the chariots And those who ride in them; The horses and their riders shall come down, Every one by the sword of his brother.

y volcaré el trono de los reinos y destruiré el poder de los reinos de las naciones; y volcaré el carro y a los que montan en él, y caerán los caballos y sus jinetes, cada uno por la espada de su hermano.

23 ‘ In that day,’ says the Lord of hosts, ‘I will take you, Zerubbabel My servant, the son of Shealtiel,’ says the Lord, ‘and will make you like a signet ring; for I have chosen you,’ says the Lord of hosts.”

“En aquel día” —declara el Señor de los ejércitos— “te tomaré a ti, Zorobabel, hijo de Salatiel, siervo mío” —declara el Señor — “y te pondré como anillo de sello, porque yo te he escogido ” —declara el Señor de los ejércitos.
