1 F or you yourselves know, brethren, that our coming to you was not in vain.

Porque vosotros mismos sabéis, hermanos, que nuestra visita a vosotros no fue en vano,

2 B ut even after we had suffered before and were spitefully treated at Philippi, as you know, we were bold in our God to speak to you the gospel of God in much conflict.

sino que después de haber sufrido y sido maltratados en Filipos, como sabéis, tuvimos el valor, confiados en nuestro Dios, de hablaros el evangelio de Dios en medio de mucha oposición.

3 F or our exhortation did not come from error or uncleanness, nor was it in deceit.

Pues nuestra exhortación no procede de error ni de impureza ni es con engaño;

4 B ut as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, even so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who tests our hearts.

sino que así como hemos sido aprobados por Dios para que se nos confiara el evangelio, así hablamos, no como agradando a los hombres, sino a Dios que examina nuestros corazones.

5 F or neither at any time did we use flattering words, as you know, nor a cloak for covetousness—God is witness.

Porque como sabéis, nunca fuimos a vosotros con palabras lisonjeras, ni con pretexto para lucrar, Dios es testigo,

6 N or did we seek glory from men, either from you or from others, when we might have made demands as apostles of Christ.

ni buscando gloria de los hombres, ni de vosotros ni de otros, aunque como apóstoles de Cristo hubiéramos podido imponer nuestra autoridad.

7 B ut we were gentle among you, just as a nursing mother cherishes her own children.

Más bien demostramos ser benignos entre vosotros, como una madre que cría con ternura a sus propios hijos.

8 S o, affectionately longing for you, we were well pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God, but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.

Teniendo así un gran afecto por vosotros, nos hemos complacido en impartiros no sólo el evangelio de Dios, sino también nuestras propias vidas, pues llegasteis a sernos muy amados.

9 F or you remember, brethren, our labor and toil; for laboring night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you, we preached to you the gospel of God.

Porque recordáis, hermanos, nuestros trabajos y fatigas, cómo, trabajando de día y de noche para no ser carga a ninguno de vosotros, os proclamamos el evangelio de Dios.

10 Y ou are witnesses, and God also, how devoutly and justly and blamelessly we behaved ourselves among you who believe;

Vosotros sois testigos, y también Dios, de cuán santa, justa e irreprensiblemente nos comportamos con vosotros los creyentes;

11 a s you know how we exhorted, and comforted, and charged every one of you, as a father does his own children,

así como sabéis de qué manera os exhortábamos, alentábamos e implorábamos a cada uno de vosotros, como un padre lo haría con sus propios hijos,

12 t hat you would walk worthy of God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory. Their Conversion

para que anduvierais como es digno del Dios que os ha llamado a su reino y a su gloria. Pablo da gracias por los tesalonicenses

13 F or this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.

Por esto también nosotros sin cesar damos gracias a Dios de que cuando recibisteis la palabra de Dios, que oísteis de nosotros la aceptasteis no como la palabra de hombres, sino como lo que realmente es, la palabra de Dios, la cual también hace su obra en vosotros los que creéis.

14 F or you, brethren, became imitators of the churches of God which are in Judea in Christ Jesus. For you also suffered the same things from your own countrymen, just as they did from the Judeans,

Pues vosotros, hermanos, vinisteis a ser imitadores de las iglesias de Dios en Cristo Jesús que están en Judea, porque también vosotros padecisteis los mismos sufrimientos a manos de vuestros propios compatriotas, tal como ellos padecieron a manos de los judíos,

15 w ho killed both the Lord Jesus and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they do not please God and are contrary to all men,

los cuales mataron tanto al Señor Jesús como a los profetas, y a nosotros nos expulsaron, y no agradan a Dios sino que son contrarios a todos los hombres,

16 f orbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they may be saved, so as always to fill up the measure of their sins; but wrath has come upon them to the uttermost. Longing to See Them

impidiéndonos hablar a los gentiles para que se salven, con el resultado de que siempre llenan la medida de sus pecados. Pero la ira ha venido sobre ellos hasta el extremo.

17 B ut we, brethren, having been taken away from you for a short time in presence, not in heart, endeavored more eagerly to see your face with great desire.

Pero nosotros, hermanos, separados de vosotros por breve tiempo, en persona pero no en espíritu, estábamos muy ansiosos, con profundo deseo de ver vuestro rostro.

18 T herefore we wanted to come to you—even I, Paul, time and again—but Satan hindered us.

Ya que queríamos ir a vosotros (al menos yo, Pablo, más de una vez ) pero Satanás nos lo ha impedido.

19 F or what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Is it not even you in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at His coming?

Porque ¿quién es nuestra esperanza o gozo o corona de gloria ? ¿No lo sois vosotros en la presencia de nuestro Señor Jesús en su venida ?

20 F or you are our glory and joy.

Pues vosotros sois nuestra gloria y nuestro gozo.
